In the United States, the C 300 Sedan starts at $49,650 and the E 350 Sedan at $65,200. Both use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with mild-hybrid drive rated at 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes-Benz lists nearly identical acceleration: 6.0 seconds from 0 to 60 mph for the C 300 and 6.1 seconds for the E 350. The E-Class earns its price primarily through its model tier and available higher-output versions, not a faster base engine.

Price: the E-Class asks for $15,550 more before options
The entry-point decision is straightforward. A rear-wheel-drive C 300 Sedan lists at $49,650, while an E 350 Sedan lists at $65,200. That is a $15,550 difference before selecting paint, wheels, packages, accessories, taxes, registration, dealer charges, or a negotiated transaction price.
#1 Best Overall
Choosing all-wheel drive widens the absolute gap slightly. The C 300 4MATIC is $51,650 and the E 350 4MATIC is $67,700, a $16,050 spread. If your budget is built around a monthly payment, calculate both vehicles with the same down payment, term, interest rate, taxes, and fees; a $15,550 MSRP difference can produce a substantially different payment even when the advertised lease or finance programs change.
The E 350’s higher price does not buy more published base horsepower or torque. You are paying for the E-Class position in Mercedes-Benz’s sedan hierarchy and whatever equipment, materials, space, technology, and refinement are included in the exact configuration. The supplied 2026 material does not establish a matched equipment matrix, so confirm standard and optional features on the build sheet rather than assuming every E-Class feature is included in every E 350.
Powertrains and performance
C 300 and E 350: the closest apples-to-apples comparison
Both base sedans use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with mild-hybrid drive. Mercedes-Benz rates each at 255 hp and 295 lb-ft. The C 300’s listed 0–60-mph time is 6.0 seconds; the E 350’s is 6.1 seconds. That tenth-second difference is a manufacturer estimate and is too small to make acceleration the deciding factor for most buyers.

Published figures do not establish how the cars will feel in every situation. Tire choice, drivetrain, weather, road surface, passenger load, and an individual vehicle’s equipment can affect real-world performance. Treat the numbers as a way to compare official positioning, not as a promise of an independent test result.
When the C-Class becomes the performance choice
The C-Class range extends well beyond the C 300:
| 2026 C-Class sedan | Starting MSRP | Published output |
|---|---|---|
| C 300 | $49,650 | 255 hp; 295 lb-ft |
| C 300 4MATIC | $51,650 | 255 hp; 295 lb-ft |
| AMG C 43 | $64,150 | 416 hp; 369 lb-ft |
| AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE | $88,000 | 671 hp; 752 lb-ft |
The AMG C 43 starts $1,050 below the E 350, yet its listed output is dramatically higher. The C 63 S E PERFORMANCE costs more than an E 450 4MATIC and has the highest published output in either standard lineup. These are not base-trim substitutes for a C 300 or E 350: their powertrains, tuning, equipment, running costs, and buyer priorities are different.
When the E-Class becomes the performance choice
The E-Class range offers its own step-up engines:
| 2026 E-Class sedan | Starting MSRP | Published output |
|---|---|---|
| E 350 | $65,200 | 255 hp; 295 lb-ft |
| E 350 4MATIC | $67,700 | 255 hp; 295 lb-ft |
| E 450 4MATIC | $73,700 | 375 hp; 369 lb-ft |
| AMG E 53 HYBRID | $91,100 | 577 hp; 553 lb-ft |
The E 450 4MATIC is the relevant E-Class alternative when you want a substantial power increase without moving to the AMG E 53 HYBRID. Its 375 hp and 369 lb-ft exceed the E 350’s output, but its $73,700 starting price is $8,500 above the rear-drive E 350. Compare it with the AMG C 43 or another C-Class performance trim according to power, drivetrain, equipment, and budget—not simply by model name.

Rear-wheel drive, 4MATIC, and configuration discipline
The 2026 C 300 and E 350 are listed with rear-wheel-drive base versions and optional 4MATIC variants. The C 300 4MATIC adds $2,000 to the listed starting price; the E 350 4MATIC adds $2,500. The higher E-Class trims shown here include 4MATIC on the E 450 and AMG E 53 HYBRID, while the AMG C 43 and C 63 S E PERFORMANCE are separate performance configurations.
Choose the drivetrain based on your roads and priorities. Drivers who regularly encounter snow, steep wet roads, or loose surfaces may prefer the additional traction strategy of 4MATIC. Rear-wheel drive can be the lower-cost configuration and may suit buyers who drive mostly on clear pavement. Neither drivetrain choice eliminates the need for appropriate tires and sensible speed.
When comparing dealer listings, match body style, model year, engine, drivetrain, and major packages. A highly optioned C 300 can overlap the price of a lightly optioned E 350, while an AMG car can make a simple C-versus-E price comparison meaningless.
Size, cargo, and everyday usability: what is actually verified
Mercedes-Benz lists the 2026 C 300 Sedan at 187.0 inches long, with a 112.8-inch wheelbase and 11.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Its EPA rating is 25 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. Those are useful reference points for parking, garage fit, luggage planning, and fuel budgeting.
A corresponding E-Class length, wheelbase, cargo figure, and EPA rating were not established in the available 2026 U.S. material. Therefore, this comparison cannot responsibly claim that the E-Class is a certain number of inches longer, has a specific cargo advantage, or delivers better fuel economy. If rear-seat room, trunk volume, or highway range is decisive, open the exact E 350 specification page and compare the same measurement standards before signing a purchase order.
For a test drive, bring the objects you actually carry: a child seat, work equipment, golf bag, stroller, or luggage. Check the trunk opening rather than relying only on the published volume, sit behind your normal driving position, and verify that the front-seat adjustment leaves enough knee and foot space.

Equipment and comfort: compare build sheets, not assumptions
The available figures establish price, powertrain, acceleration, and selected C 300 specifications, but they do not provide a complete, trim-by-trim equipment matrix. That means a reliable article cannot declare an across-the-board E-Class victory for screens, seats, audio, driver assistance, climate controls, or interior materials without the exact configuration.
Use the Mercedes-Benz configurator or dealer build sheet to identify:
- Which driver-assistance functions are standard and which require a package.
- Seat upholstery, heating, ventilation, memory, and adjustment differences.
- Infotainment display, navigation, smartphone integration, and audio equipment.
- Wheel and tire sizes, spare-tire provisions, and winter-tire compatibility.
- Sunroof, lighting, parking-camera, and convenience features.
- Warranty, maintenance, and roadside-assistance terms applicable to your market and model year.
Ask the dealer to print the option codes and MSRP for the specific stock number. Two cars carrying the same badge can have very different transaction prices and daily-use equipment.

Choose the C 300 if your priority is value
- You want the lowest entry price into a new Mercedes-Benz sedan.
- You are satisfied with 255 hp and 295 lb-ft.
- You want the published 6.0-second 0–60 estimate without paying E-Class pricing.
- You prefer to reserve budget for options, winter tires, insurance, or ownership costs.
- The verified 187.0-inch length and 11.6-cubic-foot trunk meet your needs.
The C 300 is not an underpowered consolation prize on the published numbers. It matches the E 350’s base output and is listed slightly quicker to 60 mph. Its strongest argument is financial: $49,650 leaves $15,550 of headroom before options compared with the E 350.
Choose the E 350 if the E-Class experience is the point
- You have a budget that comfortably supports a $65,200 starting price.
- You specifically want the E-Class model tier rather than equivalent base acceleration.
- You are prepared to verify the equipment and interior features that justify the premium for you.
- You need a 4MATIC E-Class and prefer the E 350’s $67,700 starting configuration.
- You may later consider the E 450 4MATIC’s 375-hp engine or AMG E 53 HYBRID’s 577 hp.
Do not buy the E 350 expecting a base-engine speed advantage over the C 300. Buy it because its design, cabin experience, available technology, or model position matters enough to justify the additional budget after you inspect a correctly equipped car.
Choose a C-Class AMG when performance outranks entry price
The AMG C 43 at $64,150 sits close to the E 350’s price while listing 416 hp and 369 lb-ft. The AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE at $88,000 lists 671 hp and 752 lb-ft. Those outputs make the C-Class performance range a separate decision from the C 300-versus-E 350 value question. Include fuel, tires, insurance, brakes, and potential maintenance in the budget; the supplied MSRP figures do not quantify those recurring costs.

Choose an E-Class performance trim when you want power with E-Class positioning
The E 450 4MATIC starts at $73,700 with 375 hp and 369 lb-ft. The AMG E 53 HYBRID starts at $91,100 with 577 hp and 553 lb-ft. Compare those cars against the AMG C variants by actual equipment and driving goals. A higher badge number does not by itself establish a better choice.

A practical purchase process
- Set an all-in ceiling. Start with the $49,650 C 300, $51,650 C 300 4MATIC, $65,200 E 350, or $67,700 E 350 4MATIC MSRP, then add realistic options, taxes, registration, dealer charges, insurance, and financing.
- Pick the power level before shopping inventory. Decide whether 255 hp is sufficient or whether you need the 375-hp E 450, 416-hp AMG C 43, 577-hp AMG E 53 HYBRID, or 671-hp C 63 S E PERFORMANCE.
- Choose drivetrain and tires. Select rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC based on climate and roads, then confirm the tire specification and seasonal-tire plan.
- Build a matched specification. Compare two cars with the same drivetrain, major comfort features, driver-assistance equipment, and wheel category.
- Verify physical fit. Test rear-seat access, trunk opening, child-seat installation, garage clearance, and turning/parking needs.
- Drive both if possible. Evaluate ride, visibility, controls, seat comfort, wind and tire noise, and power delivery on the roads you use.
- Review the printed order sheet. Confirm model year, body style, engine, drivetrain, options, destination and dealer charges, and the final negotiated price.
Should you buy now or wait for the next C-Class?
Mercedes-Benz announced on August 17, 2026 that a new combustion-engine C-Class is expected to reach U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2027. The announcement describes it as “the most comprehensive update to date for its best-selling sedan model family.” That is a future-product announcement, not proof that the redesigned car is already available.
If you need a sedan during 2026, shop the current C 300, E 350, and their available variants on the equipment and price you can verify today. If timing is flexible, waiting may let you inspect the announced C-Class before committing, but final pricing, specifications, inventory, and launch timing should be confirmed when Mercedes-Benz publishes the production model. Do not assume current 2026 pricing or features will carry over.
Accessories, manuals, and fitment checks
Floor mats are a sensible accessory purchase for either sedan, but fitment is model- and year-specific. Verify model year, body style, drivetrain where relevant, and trim before ordering C-Class or E-Class mats. Do not assume a mat marketed for one generation or body style fits another.
For operating instructions, use the Mercedes-Benz owner-manual portal and select the exact model, year, and body type. The portal organizes documents by those vehicle details, so choosing a generic C-Class or E-Class manual can lead to incorrect controls, capacities, or maintenance information.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBottom line for the 2026 U.S. sedan lineup
The C 300 is the rational starting point: it costs $15,550 less than the E 350, matches its 255-hp/295-lb-ft base output, and carries a nearly identical official acceleration estimate. The E 350 makes sense when the E-Class model tier and its verified equipment are worth the premium to you. For substantially more power, stop comparing base badges and evaluate the AMG C 43, C 63 S E PERFORMANCE, E 450 4MATIC, and AMG E 53 HYBRID as distinct performance choices. Recheck MSRP, inventory, and specifications—especially around the announced first-half-2027 C-Class update—before purchase.
