On the manufacturers’ listed 2026 starting MSRPs, its base 3.3-liter inline-six model starts $18,400 below the rear-wheel-drive Genesis GV80 2.5T—not $17,000. Their base engines are fairly close in rated output, but the comparison is between differently equipped SUVs, and the CX-90’s higher-output Turbo S is a separate case.
What the 2026 starting prices actually show
Mazda’s September 4, 2025 pricing announcement listed the CX-90 3.3 Turbo Select at a starting MSRP of $39,300. Genesis USA’s 2026 build-and-price page lists the GV80 2.5T RWD at $57,700. That makes the listed starting-MSRP gap $18,400, before destination charges and other fees; it is not a comparison of equivalent trims or final dealer prices. Mazda’s 2026 CX-90 pricing announcement and the Genesis GV80 build-and-price page provide the figures.

Mazda’s announcement gives a destination and handling charge of $1,645, or $1,690 in Alaska, and says taxes, title and additional fees are extra. Dealers set actual sale prices. Mazda’s vehicle page also reports a $200–$500 increase for 2026 CX-90 models effective May 4, 2026, so the September 2025 starting price should not be treated as a guaranteed current quote. Check the live manufacturer configurator or a dealer for the price applicable to the specific vehicle.
Is the power really nearly identical?
For the base configurations above, the comparison is reasonably close in rated horsepower: Mazda rates the CX-90’s standard-output 3.3-liter turbo inline-six at 280 hp, while Genesis rates the GV80 2.5T RWD at 300 hp. The difference is 20 hp. These are manufacturer ratings, not the results of a direct performance test, and horsepower alone does not establish how quickly either SUV accelerates or feels on the road. Mazda’s 2026 CX-90 specifications and Genesis’s 2026 GV80 build page state the respective ratings.

The CX-90 Turbo S is a different comparison
Mazda’s CX-90 Turbo S is rated at up to 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque when using recommended 91-octane fuel; Mazda lists 319 hp on regular 87-octane fuel. Those figures are not nearly identical to the GV80 2.5T’s 300 hp. The Turbo S is also a much higher-priced CX-90 trim: Mazda’s September 2025 pricing release lists the Turbo S Premium Sport at $54,140 and Turbo S Premium Plus at $57,570, before destination and other charges. Mazda’s pricing release and specification deck distinguish its output and fuel-grade conditions.
What the price gap does—and does not—tell you
The $18,400 arithmetic compares the least expensive listed CX-90 with the listed rear-wheel-drive base GV80. It does not tell you how much two similarly equipped vehicles cost, whether a dealer will discount either one, or the final out-the-door difference. The CX-90 Select and GV80 2.5T RWD are distinct configurations with different equipment and vehicle positioning; the available figures do not establish an equipment-adjusted value comparison.

Mazda’s 2026 CX-90 Select is listed with all-wheel drive and three-row seating for up to eight. The base GV80 configuration cited here is rear-wheel drive. Before treating the price gap as a shopping decision, compare the exact drivetrain, seating needs, included features, destination, fees and live quotes for the vehicles you would actually buy.

Mazda gives the standard-output 3.3 Turbo inline-six an EPA-estimated 23 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined. Genesis lists 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway for the 2026 GV80 2.5T RWD on its build page; the cited figure set does not state a combined value. These are manufacturer-published EPA estimates, not real-world comparative results, and the drive configurations differ.

CX-90 towing capacity also depends on trim and equipment. Mazda lists up to 5,000 lb on applicable trims only when equipped with Mazda Genuine Towing Accessories; other trims are listed at 3,500 lb. Confirm the capacity and required accessory fitment for the specific CX-90 configuration rather than assuming the maximum applies to every model. Mazda’s 2026 specifications state the conditions.

How to make a fair showroom comparison
- Match the model year and configuration. The figures here are for U.S.-market 2026 vehicles. Compare the CX-90 3.3 Turbo Select with the GV80 2.5T RWD only if those are the configurations under consideration.
- Compare live vehicle prices. Ask for quotes on the exact trims and equipment, with destination and dealer charges itemized. The published starting MSRPs are not out-the-door prices.
- Check the powertrain conditions. Distinguish the CX-90’s 280-hp standard-output engine from the Turbo S, whose output depends on fuel grade; do not substitute the Turbo S figure into a base-trim comparison.
- Check practical requirements. Verify seating and drivetrain needs, EPA estimates for the precise configuration, and the CX-90’s trim-specific tow rating and accessory requirements if towing matters.
