For U.S. buyers choosing between Kawasaki’s 2026 Z900 ABS and Z1100 SE ABS, the Z900 is the lower-cost, lighter starting point; the Z1100 SE costs $5,000 more at base MSRP and pairs higher published output with Brembo front calipers and an Öhlins rear shock. Whether those upgrades justify the premium depends on your local out-the-door quote and how much value you place on the larger engine and listed hardware.

Prices are Kawasaki’s listed U.S. base MSRPs, verified October 3, 2026. The $5,000 difference excludes taxes, title, license, dealer fees, options, and other charges; Kawasaki says dealers set actual retail prices. Ask for local out-the-door quotes before deciding. Kawasaki’s U.S. model listings and the manufacturers’ Z900 ABS specification sheet and Z1100 SE ABS specification sheet provide the figures; listed weights are manufacturer specifications, not independent scale measurements.
What does the extra $5,000 buy?
A larger engine and higher published output
Kawasaki rates the 2026 Z900 ABS’s 948 cc inline-four at 123.0 hp at 9,500 rpm and 73.1 lb-ft at 7,700 rpm. The 2026 Z1100 SE ABS’s 1,099 cc inline-four is rated at 134.0 hp at 9,000 rpm and 83.3 lb-ft at 7,600 rpm. Those are manufacturer-published peak figures. They do not establish how much quicker one bike feels in everyday roll-ons, traffic, or acceleration tests.

Premium suspension and brake components
The Z1100 SE specification lists Brembo M4.32 front calipers and an Öhlins S46 rear shock. Those are identifiable hardware upgrades on the Z1100 SE; do not assume the base Z900 ABS has them, or apply the base Z900’s price and equipment to the separately listed Z900 SE trim.
More weight, but nearly the same seat height
Against the 50-state Z900 ABS figure, the Z1100 SE is listed 17.6 lb heavier. Seat height differs by just 0.2 inch, with the Z1100 SE at 32.1 inches and the Z900 at 31.9 inches. Those figures cannot determine fit on their own: seat shape, reach to the bars, and a rider’s inseam matter. Sit on both bikes, and arrange a test ride if possible.

What is similar between the Z900 ABS and Z1100 SE ABS?
Both are inline-four naked bikes with a listed 4.5-gallon fuel capacity and substantial electronic equipment in Kawasaki’s current U.S. listings. The Z900 ABS listing includes cruise control, KTRC traction control, KCMF, power modes, KQS, IMU-enhanced awareness, a TFT display, and app connectivity. The Z1100 SE listing includes cruise control, KTRC, KIBS/ABS, KCMF, KQS, IMU-enhanced awareness, a TFT display, and USB-C; Kawasaki’s model page also describes electronic throttle valves. Check the exact year, trim, and market specification when comparing equipment. A matching tank capacity does not establish matching range, which depends on real-world fuel economy.

Which one should you buy?
Choose the 2026 Z900 ABS if
- You want the lower listed starting price and would rather keep the $5,000 base-MSRP difference available for other costs or priorities.
- You value the lower listed curb weight.
- The Z900’s published output and standard equipment meet your needs, without paying for the Z1100 SE’s listed premium suspension and brake hardware.
Choose the 2026 Z1100 SE ABS if
- You specifically want the larger engine and its higher published peak power and torque.
- The Brembo M4.32 front calipers and Öhlins S46 rear shock are worth paying for to you.
- Your local quote makes the premium acceptable and the additional listed weight is not a concern.
Before you commit
- Get itemized out-the-door quotes for both bikes from local dealers; base MSRP is not the final purchase price.
- Sit on both models and check bar reach, seat contour, and footing rather than choosing by the small seat-height difference alone.
- If possible, test ride each one. Published specifications cannot settle which feels more comfortable or manageable in your riding conditions.
Kawasaki’s available specifications do not establish comparative real-world fuel economy, range, reliability, measured acceleration or braking, or which bike handles better. Those claims require evidence beyond the listed figures.
