Car and Driver’s 2026 highway test of the Jeep Recon Moab covered 160 miles at a steady 75 mph, compared with the 222-mile EPA-estimated range listed in its review. The 160-mile result is one publication’s test of one Moab—not a guaranteed range for every Recon or every driver.
What the 160-mile result means
Car and Driver reports that its 2026 Jeep Recon Moab test vehicle traveled 160 miles in the publication’s 75-mph highway range test before needing a recharge. The same review lists a 222-mile EPA-estimated range for the Moab. That is a 62-mile gap between the review’s reported estimate and its test result; the EPA estimate is not the distance covered in Car and Driver’s drive.
The figures describe different things: an EPA-estimated range and a publication’s highway test under a stated speed condition. The test result should not be read as a universal prediction for other trims, speeds, routes, weather, or driving conditions.
Efficiency and the Recon’s setup
Car and Driver lists a 94-kWh battery and 59 MPGe observed efficiency in its review. In a separate highway-test article, it reports 1.7 miles per kWh. Those are publication-reported figures from its testing and review, not a guarantee of what an owner will achieve.

- Newray Military Jeep
- Scale 1:32
- Die-cast
- Pull-back function
- Suitable for children aged 5 years and older
The Moab is configured for off-road use, with 33-inch tires and 9.1 inches of ground clearance, according to the review. Those specifications provide context for the vehicle’s role, but the reports do not isolate how much any one design feature contributed to the 160-mile result.
How it compares with the Wagoneer S
Car and Driver’s test-hub article reports a 280-mile highway range result for the more road-oriented Jeep Wagoneer S, 120 miles farther than the Recon Moab’s reported test distance.

| Vehicle | Car and Driver-reported highway result | Relevant setup context |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Jeep Recon Moab | 160 miles at 75 mph, in Car and Driver’s test | 33-inch tires and 9.1 inches of ground clearance, as described in the review |
| Jeep Wagoneer S | 280 miles, as reported in Car and Driver’s test-hub article; the cited article does not state the test speed alongside this figure | Car and Driver describes it as more road-oriented, with tires, lower ground clearance, and a shape better suited to aerodynamics |
This is a comparison of the publication’s reported results, not a controlled test that establishes how much each design difference changes range. The two models also serve different purposes, so their test distances alone do not make them like-for-like alternatives.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is 160 miles enough for trail trips?
For local commuting, Car and Driver considers the tested range potentially adequate. A trip from a populated area to a distant off-road trail is a different proposition: the review identifies that kind of journey as a concern, but does not provide a route-specific charging assessment.
