For the U.S. 2026 model year, the nonhybrid Hyundai Santa Fe with the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine is reported to switch from an eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT) to an eight-speed torque-converter automatic. The Santa Cruz is less clear: Hyundai’s general specifications page lists an eight-speed automatic, while its 2026 XRT page lists an eight-speed DCT. The available official pages conflict, so it is not established that the Santa Cruz has dropped its DCT.
What changed in the 2026 Santa Fe?
Car and Driver reported the Santa Fe change on July 17, 2025, citing confirmation from a Hyundai spokesperson. The change applies to the U.S. nonhybrid Santa Fe with the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine; the report says the hybrid is unaffected because it uses a different powertrain. The replacement is an eight-speed torque-converter automatic rather than the prior eight-speed wet DCT. Car and Driver’s report quotes Hyundai’s explanation: “For 2026, Santa Fe moves to a torque converter transmission. It became available in our development cycle, and we determined it provided ideal overall drivability for the Santa Fe driver moving forward.”
Does the 2026 Santa Cruz still have a DCT?
Hyundai’s U.S. pages do not give a consistent answer. The 2026 Santa Cruz features and specifications page lists an eight-speed automatic, while the 2026 Santa Cruz XRT page identifies an eight-speed DCT. Because one source is a general specifications page and the other is trim-specific, the discrepancy matters: the general listing does not establish what transmission is fitted to every trim, and the XRT listing does not establish what every Santa Cruz gets. Until Hyundai clarifies, buyers should confirm the transmission for the specific trim and vehicle with a Hyundai dealer.
What earlier Hyundai DCT recalls and service guidance cover
Past recall and service actions are evidence of specific issues in certain vehicles—not proof that every Hyundai equipped with a DCT is defective. They also do not establish that the 2026 Santa Fe transmission change was caused by a particular recall or service campaign.

Hyundai’s Safety Recall 236 campaign information and recall FAQ cover certain earlier DCT-equipped vehicles, including 2022 Santa Cruz and certain 2021–2022 Santa Fe vehicles. Hyundai describes a possible loss of drive power if a high-pressure electric oil pump malfunction impairs fail-safe operation. The campaign remedy includes a transmission control unit (TCU) software update and inspection, with transmission replacement if needed. Eligibility depends on the vehicle; the recall materials direct owners to verify by VIN.
March 2026 service bulletin
Hyundai Motor America’s March 2026 technical service bulletin 26-AT-001H covers specified 2022–2025 Santa Cruz and 2021–2025 Santa Fe vehicles, among other models. It describes transmission replacement when the listed high-pressure electric oil pump trouble codes are present. The codes associated with that procedure are:

The bulletin also instructs service personnel to confirm that Recall 236 or Service Campaign T8N has been completed before replacement. It is a procedure for specified vehicles and diagnostic conditions, not a declaration that all listed model years or all DCTs have failed. Read Hyundai bulletin 26-AT-001H, hosted by NHTSA.
How to check whether your Hyundai is affected
- Find the vehicle identification number (VIN), usually visible at the base of the windshield or on the driver-side door-jamb label.
- Enter it in Hyundai’s recall lookup to check for open recalls associated with that vehicle.
- If you have symptoms or questions about a service bulletin, contact a Hyundai dealer with the VIN. Ask the service department to check applicable campaigns and diagnose the vehicle; a bulletin’s model-year range alone does not confirm eligibility or a needed repair.
Normal DCT behavior versus a diagnosed problem
Hyundai’s owner manual explains that a DCT is an automatically shifted, manual-style transmission. Shifts may be more noticeable or audible than in a conventional automatic, and low-speed launch behavior can feel different. Hyundai describes some of these characteristics as normal operation; they should not, by themselves, be treated as confirmation of a failure.
