The 2026 Hyundai Palisade XRT Pro is more than an appearance package: it adds extra ground clearance, all-terrain tires, an electronic rear limited-slip differential and recovery hooks to a three-row SUV. Those features make it better equipped for rough roads and slippery trails than a regular Palisade, though its 8.4 inches of clearance and road-focused family-SUV format are not a substitute for a purpose-built off-roader. It can tow up to 5,000 pounds as an ICE model, while fuel economy is a clear trade-off.
What makes the XRT Pro more adventure-ready?
Hyundai calls the XRT Pro its first model with that designation. Its meaningful changes are functional: the suspension and wheel-and-tire package provide more clearance, while its AWD system, terrain settings and rear differential are intended to help maintain traction. Hyundai’s 2025 specifications list 8.4 inches of ground clearance—one inch more than non-XRT Pro Palisade models—plus 20.5 degrees of approach, 22.4 degrees of departure and 18.3 degrees of breakover.
Clearance and trail geometry
The extra inch can help the vehicle clear ruts, rocks and uneven approaches that might catch the underside of a lower Palisade. The published approach, departure and breakover angles describe how steep an obstacle can be before the front, rear or underside is likely to make contact. They are useful context, not a guarantee of clearance in every situation: tire placement, load, terrain and driving technique matter.
Traction and recovery equipment
The XRT Pro combines HTRAC all-wheel drive with an electronic rear limited-slip differential exclusive to the trim and Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes. It rides on 255/60R18 all-terrain tires and has exposed recovery hooks at the front and rear. Together, those features offer more traction and recovery options than a standard road-oriented setup, but they do not make the Palisade a low-range, high-clearance off-road vehicle.

Is the Palisade XRT Pro capable off road?
It is equipped for unpaved roads, campsites, snow-covered routes and moderate trails where all-wheel traction and extra clearance are useful. The evidence supports calling it more trail-ready than other Palisade trims, not a dedicated rock crawler. Its stated 8.4 inches of clearance and published geometry impose limits, and all-terrain tires cannot eliminate the risks of deep ruts, sharp obstacles or terrain beyond the vehicle’s capability.
For sensible use, choose a route with room to turn around, keep speed low on uneven ground and avoid obstacles that could strike the underside. Recovery hooks are useful equipment, but recovery should be performed with appropriate gear and attachment points; they are not permission to drive into terrain the vehicle cannot safely cross.

How much can the XRT Pro tow?
Hyundai lists a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds for ICE Palisade models, including the XRT Pro. The trim has a factory-installed tow hitch and Tow Mode. The 5,000-pound figure is a maximum rating, not a promise that every trailer can be towed at that weight in every configuration. Check the vehicle’s labels and owner’s manual, account for passengers and cargo, and confirm trailer and tongue-weight limits before towing.
Power and fuel economy
The gasoline XRT Pro uses a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6. Hyundai’s 2025 material gives estimated maximum output of 287 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 XRT Pro specification lists fuel economy of 19 mpg city, 22 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined.

In its own test, Tom’s Guide recorded 16.7 mpg over 115.5 miles. That is an observed result from one test, not a universal real-world figure or a replacement for the listed ratings. Driving conditions, speed, terrain, load and weather can change fuel use; frequent off-road driving or towing can also make economy less favorable.
What does the XRT Pro cost, and is it worth more than a regular Palisade?
Hyundai announced a $38,935 starting MSRP for the 2026 Palisade lineup in 2025. Tom’s Guide reported $51,610 for the XRT Pro it tested in 2026. These figures describe a lineup starting price and a particular tested vehicle, not a direct trim-to-trim price comparison; the exact XRT Pro premium over a comparable regular Palisade is not established by those figures. MSRP, dealer inventory and incentives vary by market and can change.

The XRT Pro is most compelling if you will use its added clearance, all-terrain tires, rear differential, terrain modes, recovery hooks or integrated hitch. If your driving is almost entirely paved and you do not need those features, a lower Palisade trim may be a better value. Consider the fuel-economy trade-off alongside the purchase price, especially if you expect to tow or regularly drive on rough routes.

- Choose the XRT Pro for: family trips that include dirt roads, snow or moderate trails, plus the extra traction and recovery hardware that can help in those conditions.
- Consider a lower trim for: mostly paved driving where the XRT Pro’s trail-oriented hardware is unlikely to matter.
- Check before buying: the current local price and equipment, the vehicle’s towing limits for your specific setup, and whether its fuel consumption fits your driving budget.
