For the 2026 U.S. lineup, the most fuel-efficient Hyundai in the figures available here is the Elantra Hybrid Blue. Its EPA combined rating appears at the top of the configuration-by-configuration table below. The comparison is intentionally limited to gasoline vehicles and conventional hybrids with published 2026 estimates; it is not a certified list of every 2026 trim because some official configurations were not exposed consistently.
How this 2026 Hyundai MPG ranking works
The order uses EPA-estimated combined MPG, which is the most useful single figure for comparing mixed driving. City and highway estimates remain in the table because your commute may favor one or the other. A model name alone is not precise enough: trim, front- versus all-wheel drive, and powertrain can materially change the rating.

These are U.S.-market 2026 model-year figures published by Hyundai USA. They are estimates for standardized comparison, not a promise of what every driver will achieve. Hyundai states: “All figures are EPA estimates and for comparison purposes only. Actual mileage may vary with options, driving conditions, driving habits and vehicle’s condition.” See the Hyundai USA vehicle lineup and its hybrid lineup for the manufacturer’s current information.
The table ranks the configurations for which the cited material supplies a usable 2026 estimate. The Tucson Hybrid front-wheel-drive entry is kept separate because two Hyundai result excerpts disagree; assigning it a firm place would imply a certainty the published information does not provide.

2026 Hyundai configurations ranked by combined MPG
| Order | Model and configuration | Powertrain | City MPG | Highway MPG | Combined MPG |

| 1 | Elantra Hybrid Blue | Conventional hybrid | 51 | 58 | 54 |
| 2 | Sonata Blue Hybrid | Conventional hybrid | 47 | 56 | 51 |
| 3 | Elantra Hybrid SEL Sport or Limited | Conventional hybrid | 49 | 52 | 50 |
| 4 | Sonata SEL Hybrid or Limited Hybrid | Conventional hybrid | 44 | 51 | 47 |
| 5 | Tucson Hybrid SE HTRAC AWD | Conventional hybrid | 38 | 38 | 38 |
| Unresolved | Tucson Hybrid SE FWD or SEL FWD | Conventional hybrid | 40 | 35 | 36 on one Hyundai result; 38 in another excerpt |
| 6 | Tucson Hybrid SEL Convenience, SEL or Limited HTRAC AWD | Conventional hybrid | 36 | 37 | 36 |
| 7 | Elantra SE | Gasoline | 31 | 40 | 35 |
| 8 | Sonata SE | Gasoline | 28 | 38 | 32 |
| 9 (tie) | Kona SE FWD | Gasoline | 29 | 34 | 31 |
| 9 (tie) | Venue | Gasoline | 29 | 33 | 31 |
| 11 | Palisade FWD | Gasoline | 19 | 25 | 21 |
The order is by configuration, not by an artificially chosen “best” number for each nameplate. For example, the Elantra appears with both hybrid and gasoline powertrains, while the Tucson’s drivetrain and trim combinations produce different results. A tie means the published combined estimate is the same; it does not mean the vehicles have identical size, cargo capacity, performance or operating cost.
What the hybrid results tell you
Elantra Hybrid: the efficiency leader
The Blue trim is the clear leader among the cited 2026 Hyundai configurations. Its city and highway balance is strong, so it is not dependent solely on low-speed urban driving to reach the top combined result. The SEL Sport and Limited hybrids remain highly efficient, but their combined estimate is lower than the Blue’s. The difference illustrates why selecting a trim by name alone can mislead a shopper who is comparing fuel use.
Choose the Elantra Hybrid when minimizing gasoline consumption is the priority and a compact sedan meets your space needs. Higher trims may add equipment you value, but the table shows that the efficiency advantage of the Blue configuration is part of the trim specification, not a universal Elantra Hybrid guarantee.
Rank #2
Sonata Hybrid: efficient midsize comfort
The Sonata Blue Hybrid is the next-highest cited configuration. Its highway estimate is particularly useful for drivers who spend substantial time on freeways, while the SEL and Limited hybrids trade some efficiency for their different equipment and specification. Because both Sonata entries are conventional hybrids, they can be compared directly with the Elantra hybrids on MPG; the larger sedan’s practicality and ride priorities are separate purchase questions.
Tucson Hybrid: useful efficiency with an AWD choice
The Tucson Hybrid entries demonstrate the cost of utility and all-wheel drive in an MPG comparison. The SE HTRAC AWD configuration has a 38/38 city/highway profile, while the higher HTRAC combinations in the cited figures are lower. The front-wheel-drive SE and SEL listing is the problem case: one Hyundai result gives 36 combined with 40 city and 35 highway, while another result excerpt gives 38 combined. Check the live trim listing before treating either number as final.
For a buyer choosing between FWD and HTRAC AWD, compare the exact window sticker or current specification page rather than assuming every Tucson Hybrid shares one rating. AWD can be valuable for traction and weather, but it should be evaluated alongside the mileage change and your actual driving conditions.
Gasoline-only Hyundai models in the cited figures
Elantra SE
The gasoline Elantra SE is the strongest of the listed non-hybrid configurations. Its highway estimate is notably better than its city estimate, so a long-distance commuter may see a different pattern from someone who drives mostly in traffic. It cannot match the Elantra Hybrid Blue because the powertrains use different efficiency strategies.

The gasoline Sonata SE ranks below the gasoline Elantra SE in combined MPG. It remains a midsize sedan, so the comparison is not solely about fuel: cabin dimensions, ride, equipment and price can justify choosing it despite the lower estimate.
Kona SE FWD and Venue
The Kona SE FWD and Venue tie in the supplied combined estimate. Their city and highway splits differ slightly, which may matter if your driving is predominantly urban or highway-based. The Kona row is explicitly front-wheel drive; do not transfer that number to another Kona drivetrain or trim without checking its own specification.
Rank #4
Palisade FWD
The Palisade FWD figure is the lowest among the listed 2026 configurations. A three-row SUV has a different mission from a compact sedan, and its lower MPG reflects that trade-off. If passenger and cargo capacity are non-negotiable, compare it with other vehicles in the same size class rather than expecting sedan-like fuel economy.
Why electric and plug-in models are not in this MPG order
Battery-electric vehicles do not burn gasoline, so ordinary MPG is not the right measure. Compare their MPGe and driving range separately, along with charging time and access. Plug-in hybrids also need their own treatment: their results depend on how often they are charged, how far they travel electrically, and how the gasoline engine performs after the battery charge is used. Combining either category with gasoline MPG would create a ranking that looks precise but compares unlike measures.

Do not mix 2027 figures into a 2026 ranking
Hyundai result pages also show newer model-year information. The cited 2027 Santa Fe Hybrid is listed at 37 city, 36 highway and 36 combined with FWD, and 35/34/35 with AWD. The 2027 Palisade Hybrid is listed at 33/35/34 for SEL and SEL Premium FWD, 31/32/31 for other named FWD configurations, and 29/31/30 for AWD configurations. Those figures belong to 2027 vehicles and are not inserted into the 2026 order above.
Model-year changes can alter engines, gearing, battery systems, trims and available drivetrains. When a dealer listing or search result shows a different number, first confirm the model year, then the exact trim and drive system, before deciding that one source is wrong.
How to verify a rating before you buy
- Open Hyundai’s vehicle lineup and select the 2026 model you are considering.
- Open the model’s specifications or fuel-economy section and record the exact trim, engine or hybrid system, and FWD or AWD designation.
- For hybrids, cross-check the Hyundai hybrid lineup; do not assume a gasoline trim’s rating applies to its hybrid counterpart.
- Write down city, highway and combined values together. Keeping all three prevents a highway-heavy or city-heavy number from being mistaken for the overall result.
- Use the secondary EPA-data listing at mpg.autos for Hyundai 2026 as a cross-check, while treating Hyundai’s live trim specification as the authority when the two displays conflict.
- Save or print the rating for the vehicle identification and equipment you are actually ordering. Optional wheels, tires and drivetrain changes can affect the applicable estimate.
Why your real mileage can differ
EPA testing gives every vehicle a standardized comparison point, but it cannot reproduce every route or driver. Hyundai specifically identifies options, driving conditions, driving habits and vehicle condition as variables. Cold weather, short trips, heavy loads, roof equipment, tire pressure, aggressive acceleration, high speeds and frequent idling can all move actual consumption away from the estimate. Hybrid operation can also vary with temperature, traffic and how often regenerative braking is available.
Use the combined figure to narrow your shortlist, then match the city/highway split to your routine. A driver who spends nearly every day on an open freeway may care more about the highway column; a dense urban commuter may care more about the city column. Neither approach changes the standardized ranking, but it can change which vehicle is the sensible choice for you.
What this list can and cannot claim
This is a ranked comparison of the 2026 configurations supported by the cited Hyundai results, not a guarantee that every current Hyundai trim is represented. The official vehicle page is extensive, and search excerpts did not expose all models and drivetrain combinations consistently. A publication claiming “every Hyundai model” in the literal sense should verify the complete live lineup or matching EPA records before assigning positions to configurations not shown here.
Fuel efficiency is only one buying criterion. This comparison does not establish purchase prices, incentives, reliability, maintenance cost, insurance, resale value or availability. Once you identify the powertrain and trim that fit your driving, confirm those ownership factors separately with a dealer and the current vehicle specifications.
