How should you choose between the Civic versions?
Choose a sedan or hatchback based on the body style you prefer
Honda offers the Civic in both sedan and hatchback forms, with gasoline and hybrid choices in each. The lineup pages establish the body styles but do not provide comparable cargo-volume measurements, so use the live specifications and inspect the vehicles if cargo space is decisive rather than assuming one has a particular capacity advantage.

Compare gasoline and hybrid versions by price and listed MPG
The hybrid choices carry higher starting MSRPs than the standard Civic Sedan and Hatchback, while Honda lists higher city MPG ratings for both hybrid models. For example, the Sedan Hybrid is listed at $29,395 and 50/47 city/highway MPG, compared with $24,695 and 32/41 for the Sedan. The Hatchback Hybrid is listed at $30,595 and 50/45, compared with $27,895 and 30/38 for the Hatchback. These figures let you compare Honda’s published price and ratings, but they do not establish whether the higher hybrid starting price will pay off for your mileage, fuel costs, or ownership period.
Consider Si and Type R if you want a performance-oriented Civic
The Civic Si Sedan and Civic Type R are the lineup’s performance-oriented variants, positioned above the mainstream Civic choices in starting price. Honda lists the Si at $31,495 and 27/37 city/highway MPG, and the Type R at $47,395 and 22/28. Those figures identify their place in the lineup, but they do not measure acceleration, handling, or day-to-day driving experience.
