The 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport is the off-road-focused trim of Honda’s redesigned, fourth-generation Passport. Its standard equipment includes all-terrain tires, off-road-tuned suspension, steel underbody skid plates and recovery points, backed by a 285-hp V6 and second-generation i-VTM4 all-wheel drive. Those are promising specifications, not proof of how it performs on a trail: the capability claims here are Honda’s, and no independent trail comparison is established.
What’s new on the 2026 Passport TrailSport?
Honda calls the 2026 Passport a completely redesigned, fourth-generation model. TrailSport is the version aimed at drivers who want more trail-oriented hardware than the standard RTL provides. The TrailSport Elite keeps that off-road positioning and adds premium cabin and technology features.
Honda’s [2024 announcement](https:// hondanews.com/en-US/releases/release-44c3552e99d98e22c3162c63f90c8146-2026-honda-passport) describes TrailSport as its most off-road-capable SUV. That is Honda’s characterization, not an independently verified ranking against competing SUVs.
What off-road equipment does TrailSport include?
The hardware gives the TrailSport a more trail-focused setup than the RTL. Honda lists these standard TrailSport features:

- General Grabber all-terrain tires, developed with General Tire, on 18-inch wheels. Honda’s launch announcement lists the tire size as 275/60R18.
- A trailer hitch and 7-pin connector.
Honda’s current 2026 Passport specifications list 8.3 inches of ground clearance, a 23-degree approach angle and up to 5,000 pounds of towing capacity. These are manufacturer-published figures; confirm applicability to the exact trim and configuration. Ground clearance and approach angle describe useful parts of a vehicle’s geometry, but they do not by themselves establish performance over a particular obstacle or trail.
How do the engine and AWD system work?
All Passport trims use Honda’s 3.5-liter V6, rated at 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. TrailSport’s second-generation i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive system is a key part of Honda’s capability pitch.

Honda says the system’s rear drive unit has 40% greater torque capacity and responds 30% faster than its predecessor. Those are Honda’s comparison figures, not independent measurements. The current product page also lists hill descent control, Trail Info in the digital instrument cluster and seven drive modes: Normal, Econ, Sport, Snow, Trail, Sand and Tow.
TrailSport or TrailSport Elite: which trim makes sense?
The two TrailSport trims share the central off-road focus. The Elite is for buyers who want that equipment with a more upscale cabin and added technology. The RTL is the lower-priced, less trail-focused alternative, with all-season tires instead of TrailSport’s all-terrain setup.

These dated MSRPs are not current dealer quotes, and the EPA estimates are launch-announcement figures rather than real-world fuel-economy results. Check current pricing and the exact vehicle configuration before buying.
Is the 2026 Passport TrailSport good off-road?
Its listed equipment makes it the Passport trim to consider if you want all-terrain tires, underbody protection, recovery points and an off-road-tuned suspension from the factory. Honda also supplies drivetrain and geometry specifications that help describe the vehicle’s intended use.

Whether it is good on the trails you drive depends on conditions, driver skill and how it compares in practice with alternatives. The available specifications do not establish real-world trail performance or superiority over another brand’s SUV. For a meaningful comparison, look at independently measured ground clearance and approach and departure angles, tire type, underbody protection, recovery provisions, drivetrain behavior, towing rating, fuel economy, price and included comfort equipment.

Honda documents a 2026 Passport MOLLE cargo panel set for organizing gear, as well as rock sliders, an aluminum front scuff plate, a roof platform, a full-size spare tire kit and a tailgate table shelf.
