What does the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition add?
For 2026, GMC describes the AEV Edition as an equipment package based on the Canyon AT4X, developed with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). Its hardware is aimed at off-road recreational driving and overland travel. The package’s most consequential additions are its lift, tires, bumpers and skid plates—not a published trail rating or a guarantee of performance on a particular route.
- Lift and tires: GMC lists a 4.5-inch factory lift and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires on 17-inch beadlock-capable AEV Salta wheels.
- Protection: Five skid plates cover the radiator, steering gear, transmission and transfer case, fuel tank, and differential. GMC says the hot-stamped boron-steel plates are more than 3.5 times stronger than equivalent cold-stamped steel; that is the manufacturer’s comparison, not an independent test result.
- Bumpers and recovery: The package has AEV steel bumpers, front winch capability and rear recovery points. GMC’s feature list does not say a winch is included.
- Other equipment: GMC lists a bed-mounted vertical spare-tire carrier with a 17-inch wheel and 35-inch MT spare, AEV accessory floor liners, AEV badging, gloss-black door handles and a power distribution box with an auxiliary bank for external accessories.
GMC’s 2024 announcement described the edition as integrating AEV hardware for off-road and overland use. The current feature list supports that intended purpose, but does not establish independent durability results or real-world trail performance.
How much ground clearance does the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition have?
GMC lists 12.2 inches of ground clearance for the 2026 AT4X AEV Edition, along with a 38.2-degree approach angle, 26.0-degree departure angle and 26.9-degree breakover angle. These are GMC’s published specifications, useful for comparing the truck on paper; actual clearance and passage depend on the terrain, load, tire condition and driving conditions.

What engine does it use?
The 2026 Canyon uses GMC’s TurboMax engine, rated by the manufacturer at 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Those are model specifications, not independent measurements of output.
How much can the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition tow?
GMC lists a maximum towing capacity of 5,500 pounds for the 2026 AT4X AEV Edition. For context, GMC lists up to 6,000 pounds for the AT4X and up to 7,700 pounds for the AT4 and several other Canyon trims. The figures are trim-level maximums, not a promise that every truck can tow that much: GMC says ratings depend on the specific vehicle and load.

GMC’s trailering chart says its ratings are for properly equipped vehicles and intended for comparison. Passengers, cargo, options or accessories can reduce the usable rating, and tongue weight counts against payload. Check the trailering information for the exact truck and its owner’s manual before towing; do not use a generic Canyon maximum in place of the vehicle-specific limit.
Does the AEV Edition include a winch?
GMC lists front winch capability, which indicates the bumper is prepared for a winch, but its feature list does not establish that a winch is included or identify a compatible model. Confirm the equipment on the specific truck and verify compatibility before buying a winch.
What tires come on the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition?
GMC lists 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, plus a matching 35-inch MT spare on a 17-inch wheel. The reviewed GMC specifications do not give the full tire size designation, SKU or load rating. For replacements, check the vehicle’s tire placard or dealer documentation rather than relying on the nominal 35-inch description alone.

Buyers who need the AEV’s lift, mud-terrain tires, protective plates and recovery-oriented equipment may find that trade worthwhile. If towing capacity takes priority, compare the specific truck’s rating with the load you plan to haul before choosing a trim.
