2026 Genesis GV80 vs. Lexus TX Hybrid: Size, Seating and Practicality Compared

The 2026 U.S. Genesis GV80 SUV is gasoline-powered, while the Lexus TX comes as a conventional hybrid or plug-in. Compare their seating layouts and manufacturer cargo figures with the measurement caveats in mind.

For the U.S. 2026 model year, there is no gasoline-powered Genesis GV80 SUV hybrid to compare with the Lexus TX Hybrid. The GV80 SUV is listed with gasoline engines; the 48-volt mild-hybrid reference applies to the separate GV80 Coupe. Lexus, meanwhile, offers both the conventional TX 500h hybrid and the plug-in TX 550h+. The practical comparison is therefore a gasoline GV80 SUV against one of two distinct TX electrified models—not a hybrid-versus-hybrid match.

For space, the GV80 can be configured for five or seven, while the TX is a three-row SUV. Lexus publishes three cargo-volume figures for the TX, but its measurement method is not established alongside Genesis’s figures, so the capacities should not be treated as exact apples-to-apples results. This guide separates what the manufacturers specify from what you should verify in person.

Is there a 2026 Genesis GV80 Hybrid?

Not in the U.S. GV80 SUV lineup described by Genesis’s 2026 model information. That SUV is offered with a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four or a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, both gasoline powertrains. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system cited in Genesis material belongs to the GV80 Coupe, a different body style; it should not be attributed to the standard GV80 SUV.

The wording “Lexus TX Hybrid” also covers two different vehicles. The TX 500h is a conventional parallel hybrid, while the TX 550h+ is a plug-in hybrid. If you are cross-shopping by fuel-system type, the fairest starting point is a GV80 SUV versus the TX 500h, with the TX 550h+ considered separately if plug-in charging and electric driving matter to you.

Seating Five seats, or seven on certain trims with the available power-folding third row (Genesis 2026 owner manual and U.S. model page) Three rows; second row is captain’s chairs or a 60:40 split-folding bench depending on grade (Lexus USA, Aug. 21, 2025)
Exterior dimensions 194.5 in. long, 77.8 in. wide, 67.5 in. tall; 116.3-in. wheelbase for the representative 2.5T configuration (Genesis U.S. 2026 model page) Not stated in the cited Lexus USA announcement (Aug. 21, 2025)
Published cargo capacity Five-seat: 38.7 cu. ft. minimum and 71.8 cu. ft. maximum. Seven-seat: 36.5 cu. ft. minimum and 71.7 cu. ft. maximum (Genesis 2026 owner manual) 20.2 cu. ft. behind row three; 57.4 cu. ft. with row three folded; 97 cu. ft. with rows two and three folded (Lexus USA, Aug. 21, 2025)
Published cargo measurement definition Minimum is behind the rear seat to the upper edge of the seatback; maximum is behind the front seat to the roof (Genesis 2026 owner manual) The cited announcement gives capacities but does not establish a directly comparable measurement method alongside Genesis’s definitions (Lexus USA, Aug. 21, 2025)

The numbers are manufacturer-published specifications, not results from a shared independent cargo test. In particular, the GV80 minimum and maximum definitions do not match a row-by-row breakdown in the cited Lexus announcement. Use the table to understand each vehicle’s published claims and seating options; do not infer that one necessarily holds a specific amount more than the other under identical loading conditions.

How many people can the GV80 seat?

The 2026 GV80 SUV is available as a five-seater or, on certain trims, a seven-seater with an available power-folding third row. The seat count depends on the trim and configuration, so confirm the exact vehicle’s equipment rather than assuming every GV80 includes the extra row. Genesis’s U.S. model information identifies the third row as a limited configuration, not a universal feature.

The five-seat layout is the simpler choice if you do not routinely need a third row. It leaves the vehicle without the GV80’s occasional-use rear seats and has a manufacturer-listed minimum luggage volume of 38.7 cubic feet. For households that need the extra seats, the seven-seat version provides them but has a smaller stated minimum volume—36.5 cubic feet—because cargo is measured behind the rear seat. Those are Genesis figures under its stated definitions, not a guarantee of what will fit in a particular arrangement of bags, strollers or other bulky items.

Before choosing a GV80 trim, verify the number of seats on its build sheet and operate the third-row mechanism yourself. If you expect to use the rear seats regularly, test the entry route and seating position with the actual passengers. A seat count establishes capacity on paper, not the comfort or convenience of using every seat on a long drive.

Does the Lexus TX have a third row?

Yes. The 2026 Lexus TX is a three-row SUV. Depending on grade, its second row uses either captain’s chairs or a 60:40 split-folding bench. Lexus describes a slide-assist walk-in mechanism to help passengers reach the third row. With captain’s chairs, second-row heating and ventilation are standard according to the company’s announcement.

The choice between the two second-row layouts changes how the cabin works for your household. Captain’s chairs create a separate seat on each side and a path between them; a bench provides a continuous second-row seating surface and can accommodate a different mix of passengers. Check the exact grade and seat configuration when comparing listings, then test the walk-in mechanism with the child seats or passengers you expect to carry. The existence of a slide-assist function does not by itself establish that access will be easy with a particular child seat installed.

Lexus’s published cargo figures also make the TX’s row-by-row flexibility explicit: it lists capacity behind the third row, with that row folded, and with both rear rows folded. The figures help distinguish a full three-row load from a larger two-row cargo arrangement, though cargo shape and the manufacturer’s measuring method still affect how the numbers translate to real objects.

Which SUV has more cargo space behind the third row?

Lexus states that the TX has 20.2 cubic feet behind its third row. Genesis lists 36.5 cubic feet as the minimum luggage volume for the seven-seat GV80. On the face of those published numbers, Genesis’s figure is larger, but it is not safe to turn that into a definitive like-for-like winner: Genesis specifies its minimum as space behind the rear seat to the upper edge of the seatback, while the cited Lexus announcement does not establish a matching measurement procedure.

For a practical comparison, bring the items that determine your choice—such as a stroller, sports gear or carry-on cases—to both vehicles and try them with all intended seats in use. Check whether the tailgate closes, whether cargo blocks visibility, and whether the items can be loaded without moving passengers or removing a seat. A cubic-foot figure is useful context, but it does not report the shape of the load opening, the width between wheel housings or how easily a real load fits.

What the published fold-down figures do show

  • Lexus TX: 20.2 cubic feet behind row three, 57.4 cubic feet with the power third-row seats folded, and 97 cubic feet with both second and third rows folded, according to Lexus’s 2026 TX announcement.
  • Genesis GV80 five-seater: 38.7 cubic feet minimum and 71.8 cubic feet maximum. Genesis defines minimum as behind the rear seat to the top edge of the seatback and maximum as behind the front seat to the roof.
  • Genesis GV80 seven-seater: 36.5 cubic feet minimum and 71.7 cubic feet maximum under the same Genesis definitions.

These are not matching seat-fold states: for example, the TX’s 57.4-cubic-foot figure is specifically reported with its third row folded, while Genesis gives a minimum and maximum with its own stated boundaries. The maximum figures also include space measured to the roof, so they should not be read as a standardized floor-only luggage measurement. For a strict comparison, verify the exact configuration and measurement protocol rather than subtracting or ranking the published figures as if they came from one test.

How large is the GV80, and what is known about TX dimensions?

For a representative 2026 GV80 2.5T configuration, Genesis gives a length of 194.5 inches, width of 77.8 inches, height of 67.5 inches and wheelbase of 116.3 inches. The 2026 owner manual lists more precise figures—194.49 inches long, 77.76 inches wide, 67.52 inches high and a 116.34-inch wheelbase. The rounded figures are easier to compare in a showroom or parking space; the detailed manual figures reflect Genesis’s published specification.

The cited Lexus announcement does not establish exact TX exterior or passenger-space dimensions. That means the available figures here cannot support a reliable length, width, wheelbase or legroom comparison between the two vehicles. Nor would exterior length alone settle which cabin better accommodates a family: seat shape, adjustment range, child-seat installation, access, and the body’s interior packaging all matter.

If garage fit or a tight parking space is decisive, measure the space and check the exact vehicle specification for the grade you are considering. For passenger fit, sit in all three rows with the actual occupants, adjust the front seats to their normal positions, and install the child seats you use. This is particularly important if the third row will carry adults or larger children rather than serve only occasional short trips.

TX 500h or TX 550h+: which Lexus hybrid is it?

The TX 500h and TX 550h+ are not two names for the same hybrid setup. The TX 500h uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged parallel-hybrid system and is not the plug-in model. Lexus reports 366 total system horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. It is offered as F SPORT Performance Premium or F SPORT Performance Luxury and uses DIRECT4 all-wheel drive.

The TX 550h+ is the plug-in hybrid. Lexus lists a 3.5-liter V6, 404 total system horsepower and a manufacturer-projected estimated electric range of 33 miles. It includes a Level 1 charging cable and a J1772 socket. With a 240-volt supply, Lexus says a full charge takes approximately three hours under ideal conditions using the standard 7-kW onboard charger. The estimated range and charging time are manufacturer figures; the stated charging time is conditional on ideal circumstances and should not be treated as a guaranteed result in every installation or use.

That distinction matters to an owner’s routine. Consider the 500h if you want the conventional hybrid configuration described by Lexus and do not want to make plug-in charging part of the decision. The 550h+ is the relevant TX if the ability to charge and use its projected electric range is a central reason for shopping. The GV80 SUV’s published U.S. choices in this comparison remain gasoline engines, not a hybrid alternative.

Which one is more practical for your household?

Choose around how often you need the third row

Start with your regular passenger count, not the maximum seat count on a brochure. If you need three rows routinely, compare a seven-seat GV80 trim with the TX and test access to the rear seats. If a third row is rarely needed, also look at the GV80 five-seat configuration; its stated cargo figures differ from those of the seven-seat version. Ask the dealer to confirm the exact trim and seat equipment in writing.

Match second-row seats to your passenger and child-seat setup

The TX’s second-row choice varies by grade, so do not assume captain’s chairs or a bench based on the model name alone. Bring each child seat, booster or other bulky item you actually use. Install it, check whether the remaining seats and access route still work, and make sure passengers can get to the third row as they would during a normal trip. Confirm the precise GV80 seating arrangement by trim as well.

Test cargo capacity with people aboard

A maximum cargo figure with rear seats folded answers a different question from luggage room with every seat occupied. If you travel with a full cabin, test the loaded configuration behind the third row. If you usually carry fewer passengers, fold the rows you would actually leave unused and see whether the resulting floor and opening suit your cargo. The published manufacturer numbers are best used to frame that test, not replace it.

Decide whether plug-in charging is part of the brief

If your comparison is specifically “hybrid GV80 versus hybrid TX,” correct the premise first: Genesis does not list a hybrid GV80 SUV for the U.S. 2026 lineup described here. A more useful shortlist is the gasoline GV80 versus TX 500h, or the gasoline GV80 versus TX 550h+ if you are evaluating a plug-in. Those choices involve different powertrain types, so compare the exact model and grade rather than treating “hybrid” as a single specification.

What this comparison cannot establish

The cited manufacturer information gives a useful basis for identifying available powertrains, seat layouts, GV80 dimensions and published cargo capacities. It does not provide a common independent cargo test, exact TX exterior dimensions or a direct passenger-comfort measurement. Nor does it establish a definitive ranking for adult comfort in the third row. Those questions require checking the specific grade and testing the actual vehicle with your passengers and cargo.

Pricing and vehicle availability can vary by model year, grade and dealer; the cited specifications do not provide a stable price comparison. When shopping, confirm current local inventory and the feature list for the exact vehicle rather than assuming an advertised model designation identifies every seat or powertrain detail.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
