2026 Four-Stroke Dirt Bikes: A 250F Motocross Shortlist, Not a Top 10

Seven 2026 250F motocross bikes are named in a current comparison, but the evidence does not support a tested top-ten value ranking. Here’s how to build a practical shortlist and assess the Yamaha YZ250F’s listed U.S. price and features.

The current evidence supports a useful shortlist of 2026 250cc four-stroke motocross bikes, but it does not support naming ten bikes as a tested, value-ranked list. Seven models appear in a 2026 comparison test; a separate buyer guide counts nine standard-model 250Fs available that year. Those are different scopes, and neither establishes a universal best buy. If you are shopping specifically for a motocross bike, start with the seven contenders below and judge value by fit, local pricing, setup and ownership support.

What belongs in a 250F motocross comparison?

“Dirt bike” can mean a motocross, trail or cross-country motorcycle. Those bikes are built for different uses, so putting them in one value ranking without defining the job can mislead. The available current comparison evidence is specifically about 250cc four-stroke motocross bikes, not every kind of dirt bike.

Dirt Rider’s March 9, 2026 comparison test names seven current 250F contenders: Honda CRF250R, KTM 250 SX-F, Yamaha YZ250F, GasGas MC 250F, Kawasaki KX250, Triumph TF 250-X and Husqvarna FC 250. Its separate buyer guide, updated May 12, 2026, says nine standard, non-special-edition 250F motocross bikes were available to buy in 2026. The seven-bike comparison is not a complete market list, and the nine-bike count does not provide a ten-model scorecard.

Seven 2026 250F motocross bikes to put on your shortlist

These are comparison-test contenders, not a rank order. The available evidence does not establish a defensible first-through-seventh value ranking across price, performance, service costs and local support.

The AMA’s provisional 2026 Supercross approval list includes Honda, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, KTM, Triumph and Yamaha models in the 250 class, as well as GasGas entries for earlier model years. That list concerns eligibility for AMA Supercross; it is not a complete retail inventory or an endorsement of any bike as the best value.

How to decide which bike is worth the money

Start with the riding you will actually do

A 250F motocross bike is the relevant comparison if your priority is motocross. If you chiefly ride trails or cross-country, compare motorcycles intended for those disciplines instead of assuming a motocross model is an equivalent substitute.

Make rider fit and power delivery first-order questions

How a bike feels to you and whether its power delivery suits your experience matter more than displacement alone. A 450 is not automatically a better value because it has a larger engine. The available evidence does not establish a universal 250-versus-450 value winner.

Compare the actual local deal and ownership support

Check the model-year price and destination charge, then ask the dealer for the out-the-door total. Dealer fees, local availability and final pricing can differ from manufacturer-listed figures. Also weigh dealer and parts access, setup needs and service costs; a headline price alone cannot settle long-term value.

  • 【21"/18" OFF-ROAD WHEELS】The 80/100-21 front and 110/90-18 rear knobby tires provide traction across dirt, gravel and uneven trail surfaces. Front and rear hydraulic disc brakes deliver controlled stopping power, while the steel frame, 52-inch wheelbase and 12-inch ground clearance provide a stable off-road riding platform. Some assembly is required. For off-road use only.
  • Some assembly required: Assembly for dirt bikes include Handle bar brackets, wheels, brakes, number plate and fender. (May differ per model)

Look for adjustment options you will use

Compare suspension adjustability and the practical setup support available to you. Electronic tuning features may be useful, but their presence does not by itself prove that a bike is a better buy. Consider whether you will use the controls and whether you can set the bike up for your needs.

Verified example: 2026 Yamaha YZ250F pricing and features

Yamaha’s U.S. 2026 product page lists the YZ250F at a starting MSRP of $8,899 plus a $675 destination charge. These are manufacturer-listed figures, not a guaranteed dealer quote or final out-the-door price.

Yamaha describes the YZ250F as having a liquid-cooled, DOHC, four-valve, fuel-injected 250cc engine and adjustable KYB fork and shock. The manufacturer also says its Power Tuner app allows fuel, ignition, traction-control and launch-control adjustments. Those are manufacturer specifications and feature descriptions, not independent comparative findings about how the Yamaha performs against the other bikes.

Yamaha lists accessories including an aluminum stand, brake line, oil fill cap, radiator braces, clutch cover, ignition cover and chain guide. It also points owners to maintenance and system-diagnosis information in the app. Verify any accessory’s fitment for the exact year and model before buying.

Why this is not a ranked top ten

The available comparison names seven 2026 contenders, while the separate buyer guide counts nine standard-model 250Fs. Neither supplies ten independently compared bikes or a complete scorecard that would justify ranking ten motorcycles by value. The AMA list has a different purpose: provisional Supercross eligibility, not retail completeness or value assessment. Presenting a top ten as if all ten had been tested against one another would overstate what the evidence establishes.

For a purchase decision, use the seven named bikes as a starting shortlist, confirm which models are available locally, and compare the actual costs and support you can get. The evidence here cannot establish one winner across rider fit, setup, dealer support, ownership costs and local pricing.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
