The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y can both make sense as electric SUVs, but there is no single winner across every trim and use case. Compare the exact vehicles you would buy: their configured prices, EPA range, route charging, cargo needs, interface, and feature packages. The Mach-E stands out if wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto matters; the Model Y may suit drivers who prefer Tesla’s integrated trip planning and screen-centered interface.
Compare the exact trims, not the nameplates
Price and range depend on configuration, so a headline starting price or one range figure can mislead. Car and Driver’s 2026 comparison page presents selected-trim figures, not a universal value for every Mach-E or Model Y. Before deciding, compare current build-page quotes for the same market and model year, including drivetrain, options, fees, and incentives.
Ford’s 2026 Mach-E page illustrates why configuration matters: it gives different range figures in the trim summary and detailed configuration table. Use the figure tied to the specific battery, drivetrain, and trim you are considering, and confirm that configuration in Ford’s current build process.
Range depends on the Mach-E configuration and your route
Ford’s 2026 specification page lists the following EPA-estimated Mach-E ranges for specified configurations:

These are not interchangeable ratings: the detailed configuration entries and trim-summary figures describe different configurations or eligibility. Check the exact vehicle rather than treating any one number as the range of every Mach-E. Tesla also cautions that Model Y range and charging performance vary with vehicle configuration, Supercharger type, state of charge, battery temperature, speed, weather, and elevation change; see Tesla’s Model Y page.
For either SUV, use the EPA figure as a comparison point, then consider your regular trips, weather, speeds, elevation, and charging opportunities. The available material does not establish a single real-world range result that applies to all buyers or configurations.

Charging: plan for home and road trips
At home
Ford says a charger and standard installation are included with a qualifying new Ford EV purchase or lease. The offer has conditions, so confirm eligibility and current terms with Ford before relying on it. Home charging also depends on the electrical setup at your property; check panel capacity, installation requirements, and the vehicle’s charging connection before choosing equipment. Details are on Ford’s home-charging page.
On a road trip
Tesla describes trip planning that includes Supercharging stops on its Model Y page. For the routes you actually drive, verify current station coverage, access, connector or adapter needs, and charging conditions. The information available here does not establish a current head-to-head count of Ford-accessible chargers and Tesla Superchargers, or a direct comparison of charging speeds.

Cargo space: test the items you carry
Ford lists 29.7 cubic feet behind the Mach-E’s second row and up to 59.1 cubic feet behind its front row in the specification FAQ. Car and Driver’s selected-trim comparison provides Model Y cargo figures, but published measurement methods may differ, so the numbers are not necessarily like-for-like.
If cargo is a deciding factor, bring the stroller, luggage, sports equipment, or other bulky items you expect to carry and test them in both vehicles. Check usable space with the seats in the positions you normally use, not just the maximum figure with seats folded.

Interface and driver assistance
Phone integration and controls
Ford lists wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility for the Mach-E. Car and Driver’s comparison says the Model Y offers neither, making the choice partly about whether you prefer familiar phone apps or Tesla’s screen-centered interface. Try the navigation, media, and everyday controls in person if the interface will affect your routine.
Driver-assistance features
Ford lists BlueCruise as available with the Technology Package. Check the exact vehicle’s equipment and any applicable package or subscription terms. A branded driver-assistance system is not the same as autonomous driving, and the comparison material does not support treating the systems as equivalent or ranking their performance.

Car and Driver’s comparison lists basic limited warranty coverage of 3 years or 36,000 miles for the Mach-E and 4 years or 50,000 miles for the Model Y. Those are basic-warranty figures, not a complete account of coverage. Review the warranty booklet for the specific vehicle and market, including separate battery and drivetrain terms.
Quick Recap
Which should you choose?
- Consider the Mach-E if wireless CarPlay or Android Auto is important, you prefer Ford’s trim choices, or you may qualify for Ford’s home-charger and standard-installation offer. Confirm the precise configuration and offer terms.
- Consider the Model Y if you prefer Tesla’s interface and integrated trip planning with Supercharging stops, and the routes you use work with its charging access.
- Compare both closely if purchase price, range, or cargo capacity is decisive. Build the vehicles you would actually buy, check local incentives and fees, map your regular routes, and test-load your gear.
