Audi’s April 24, 2025 U.S. release identifies the current Q5 as a third-generation model built on the Premium Platform Combustion architecture. For the 2025 Q5 and SQ5 lineups, quattro all-wheel drive and a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission were standard. The 2026 Sportback specification page continues to list that same basic four-cylinder, all-wheel-drive and dual-clutch formula, but it is the authoritative source for the 2026 Sportback figures above.

Model-year information matters because Audi’s U.S. trim content and prices can change without a body redesign. A 2025 equipment description is useful for understanding the generation, but it is not proof that every feature, package or price carries into 2026.
How much does the 2026 Audi Q5 cost?
2026 Q5 Sportback price
The only fully documented 2026 U.S. starting price in the available Audi material is $55,100 for the Q5 Sportback. Audi states that its starting MSRP excludes destination, taxes, title, other options and dealer charges, and that the dealer sets the actual transaction price. The $55,100 figure is therefore not an out-the-door price.
Audi’s model page also says its 2026 information and vehicle specifications are preliminary and subject to change. Ask for a current buyer’s order that separates base MSRP, destination and delivery, factory options, documentation fees, registration and taxes. That is the only reliable way to compare two dealer quotes.
2026 Q5 SUV pricing is not fully established here
Audi’s current U.S. page used for the 2026 specifications describes the Q5 Sportback. It does not provide a complete 2026 Q5 SUV Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige price table. Do not treat the Sportback’s $55,100 starting MSRP as the price of every Q5 body style or trim, and do not substitute 2025 pricing for 2026.

Why the Sportback gives up space
Audi describes the Sportback as a coupe-like version of the Q5. In the company’s 2025 release, folding the rear seats produced 56.9 cubic feet in the Q5 SUV and 53.1 cubic feet in the Q5 Sportback. The 3.8-cubic-foot difference is a prior-model-year Audi figure; confirm 2026 dimensions before using it for a purchase decision.
The sloping rear glass can also affect the shape of bulky loads even when total volume appears adequate. Measure the height and length of anything you routinely carry—strollers, bicycles, pet crates or tall boxes—against the actual vehicle. The conventional SUV is the safer choice when upright cargo and maximum versatility are more important than the Sportback’s profile.
Sliding and tilting rear bench
Audi’s 2025 description includes a rear bench that slides and tilts. Moving it rearward favors passenger legroom; moving it forward creates more cargo capacity. That flexibility is useful in either body style, but it does not eliminate the Sportback’s lower roofline. Treat the bench position as a way to fine-tune space, not as a substitute for the SUV’s taller rear opening.

Q5 Sportback engine, transmission and performance
2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder
The 2026 U.S. Q5 Sportback uses a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder rated at 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Those figures are sufficient to make Audi’s published 5.8-second 0–60-mph time credible on paper, but they are not an independent road test. Acceleration can vary with tires, temperature, road surface, payload and test method.

quattro and S tronic
quattro all-wheel drive is listed as standard, as is a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic. All-wheel drive can help the vehicle transmit power on wet or slippery pavement, but it does not shorten braking distances or make winter tires unnecessary. Choose tires for the climate in which you drive.
Speed and weight
Audi lists a 130-mph electronically limited top track speed and a 4,277-pound curb weight for the Sportback. Curb weight excludes occupants and luggage, so adding passengers, cargo and optional equipment changes the vehicle’s operating weight. The speed figure is a manufacturer limit, not a recommendation for public roads.
Q5 versus SQ5: normal SUV or performance model?
The SQ5 is not simply a trim badge on the same four-cylinder specification. Audi’s 2025 U.S. release lists the SQ5 with a 3.0-liter V6 producing 362 horsepower and 406 lb-ft, compared with 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft for the 2025 Q5 four-cylinder. The release also says sport adaptive air suspension was standard on SQ5 models, while adaptive air suspension was standard on 2025 Prestige trims.

The power figures in this table are explicitly 2025 model-year context except for the 2026 Sportback price. Verify 2026 SQ5 output, suspension hardware and pricing before placing an order. Choose the Q5 when efficiency, everyday performance and lower entry cost matter more; choose the SQ5 when the additional V6 output and sport-oriented chassis are central to your priorities.

Fuel economy and running costs
Audi quotes EPA estimates of 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined for the 2026 Q5 Sportback. Those are estimates for that specific U.S. configuration, not a guarantee for every Q5 SUV, Sportback package or SQ5. Real-world consumption changes with speed, weather, traffic, tire pressure, cargo and driving style.
No verified reliability score, owner survey result or total-ownership-cost figure is established here. Avoid treating the Q5’s luxury positioning or warranty coverage as a numerical reliability prediction. Cabin, displays and trim equipment
Audi’s 2025 generation description lists an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch central MMI touch display. A 10.9-inch passenger display was available on 2025 Prestige models. These details explain the technology layout of the generation, but they are not a confirmed 2026 trim-equipment list. How to compare trims without guessing
- Read the standard-equipment column. Confirm whether the feature is included or requires a package.
- Separate convenience from safety equipment. A larger display and upgraded audio are not substitutes for blind-spot monitoring or rear automatic braking.
- Check suspension hardware. Fixed, adaptive and sport adaptive systems change ride and handling; do not infer the system from a trim name.
- Confirm wheel and tire sizes. They affect replacement cost, ride quality and winter-tire availability.
- Match the body style. A Sportback package may have different cargo measurements and standard equipment from an SUV with the same trim label.
Safety: what the independent rating actually says
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards the 2026 Audi Q5 its Top Safety Pick+ designation. IIHS’s displayed results show Good ratings in the small-overlap front and updated side tests, with Acceptable headlights. IIHS describes the tests as using 2025 Q5 vehicles while applying the award to 2026 models.

IIHS also lists standard blind-spot detection, lane-departure warning and lane-departure prevention, and rear automatic braking among the available safety features. Confirm the exact equipment on the vehicle you are buying because availability can vary by trim or package.
Top Safety Pick+ is an IIHS award based on its test and equipment criteria. It does not mean every crash is preventable, that every lighting configuration earns a Good score, or that driver-assistance systems can replace attention. Keep the driver focused, use the seat belts and follow the owner’s instructions for the assistance systems.
What to look for in Audi Q5 photos
Audi’s official 2026 Q5 Sportback model page includes vehicle imagery. When reviewing photos, compare the rear roof arc, liftgate opening and rear-seat glass with the conventional Q5 SUV rather than assuming they have the same practical shape.

- Rear opening: Look at the height of the liftgate and the distance from the load floor to the roof.
- Second-row space: Check headroom and seatback angle, especially if adults regularly use the rear seats.
- Driver display: Confirm that photographed screens match the trim and model year; press images can show optional equipment.
- Wheels and suspension: Wheel design does not by itself identify the engine or suspension package.
Photos are useful for appearance and layout, but they cannot establish cargo measurements, standard equipment or a final transaction price. Use the window sticker and a physical inspection for those questions.
