The 2025 Yamaha XMAX takes on the BMW C 400 GT with a lower U.S.-listed starting price, while BMW’s scooter has the larger engine and more extensive published rider-assistance equipment. Yamaha lists the XMAX at $6,299 MSRP plus a $600 destination charge; BMW listed the C 400 GT at $8,445 plus destination. Those manufacturer figures are not out-the-door prices, and neither specification sheet proves which scooter rides better for a particular person.
How the U.S.-listed prices compare
Yamaha’s U.S. product page lists the 2025 XMAX at a $6,299 starting MSRP, plus a $600 destination charge. BMW’s December 2024 U.S. announcement lists the 2025 C 400 GT at $8,445 plus destination. The BMW figure is not an out-the-door quote, and its release does not specify a destination amount.
These are manufacturer-published prices, not dealer quotes. Taxes, fees, local equipment, inventory and current pricing can change the amount a buyer pays. Ask dealers for comparable out-the-door quotes and confirm what each quote includes.
Engine and published performance figures
| Specification | 2025 Yamaha XMAX | 2025 BMW C 400 GT |
|---|---|---|
| Engine displacement | 292 cc (Yamaha U.S. product page) | 350 cc (BMW USA, December 2024 announcement) |
| Published output | Not stated on Yamaha’s cited U.S. product page | 34 hp at 7,500 rpm; 26 lb-ft at 5,750 rpm (BMW USA, December 2024 announcement) |
BMW publishes horsepower and torque figures; the cited Yamaha page gives displacement but not comparable output figures. Displacement and advertised output alone do not establish acceleration or how either scooter performs in traffic, on hills or at highway speeds. The available manufacturer materials are not comparative road-test results.

Weight, seat height and fit
| Specification | 2025 Yamaha XMAX | 2025 BMW C 400 GT |
|---|---|---|
| Weight as described by manufacturer | 403 lb wet weight (Yamaha U.S. product page) | 472 lb road-ready weight (BMW USA, December 2024 announcement) |
| Seat height | 31.3 in (Yamaha U.S. product page) | 30.1 in (BMW USA, December 2024 announcement) |
| Wheelbase | 60.6 in (Yamaha U.S. product page) | Not stated in the cited BMW announcement |
The manufacturers use different weight descriptions—“wet” and “road-ready”—so the listed figures should not be treated as a precise, standardized weight comparison. The BMW’s published seat height is lower, but seat shape, suspension sag and the rider’s proportions also affect how a scooter feels at a stop. If possible, sit on both models and check whether you can comfortably manage the weight at low speed.
Windscreen, storage and everyday equipment
Windscreen adjustment
Yamaha highlights an electronically adjustable windscreen on the XMAX. BMW describes a two-position manually adjustable windscreen on the C 400 GT. The operating methods differ; the specifications do not establish which gives better wind protection for a rider or route.

Storage
BMW says the 2025 C 400 GT has larger storage than its predecessor. The cited materials do not provide a directly comparable storage capacity for the XMAX and the GT. BMW also lists an optional 43.5-liter top case; it is an accessory, not standard storage that should be counted as part of the base model.
Braking and traction-control features
BMW’s 2025 announcement lists ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control and Engine Brake Control as standard. Yamaha’s cited U.S. product page does not provide an equivalent list of those named systems, so this comparison does not establish that the XMAX lacks a particular feature. Confirm the equipment on the exact model and market you are considering.

Connectivity and display
Yamaha highlights Y-Connect smartphone connectivity. BMW lists USB-C among the C 400 GT’s 2025 equipment. These are different kinds of features, not a direct measure of which scooter has the better interface; check the current model documentation for the functions and compatibility you need.
Which differences matter when choosing?
- Start with your budget: compare dealer out-the-door quotes, using the same fee basis rather than comparing MSRP alone.
- Consider fit in person: the published seat heights differ, but they cannot predict how each scooter will feel to you when stationary or maneuvering.
- Match equipment to your routine: compare Yamaha’s electronic windscreen adjustment and Y-Connect with BMW’s listed rider-assistance systems, manual screen adjustment and USB-C.
- Verify model-year and market details: equipment and specifications can vary by region, and manufacturer pages may change.
The manufacturer sources establish meaningful differences in listed price, engine displacement, published output, seat height and described equipment. They do not establish a test winner, measured fuel economy, acceleration comparison, long-distance comfort, reliability or ownership costs.

U.S. figures are not interchangeable with Japan-market pricing
Yamaha’s Japan-market page identifies the 2025 XMAX as launching there on April 14, 2025, at a suggested retail price of ¥737,000 including Japan’s 10% consumption tax. That is a Japan-market price, not a U.S. price, and should not be mixed into a U.S. comparison. Specifications and equipment can also differ by market.
