Those performance figures come from a live page, not a 2025-specific specification sheet, so they should be treated as current Volvo claims rather than confirmed 2025 model-year ratings.

Volvo Car USA announced the following 2025 starting MSRPs. These are manufacturer starting prices, not dealer transaction prices or out-the-door totals; actual offers and equipment can vary.

B5 vs. T8: what changes?
The main choice is between a mild hybrid that does not plug in and a plug-in hybrid with an externally chargeable battery. The 2025 price list puts the T8 Core $11,000 above the B5 Core in starting MSRP. That comparison is limited to the Core starting prices; it does not establish equivalent equipment or the difference between negotiated vehicle prices.

Volvo’s current B5 page also lists AWD, five seats and a 3,500-pound maximum towing capacity. Those are current-page figures, not independently confirmed 2025-specific specifications. The current T8 specification page lists AWD as well.
What Volvo publishes about T8 performance and charging
Volvo’s live U.S. T8 specifications page lists up to 35 miles of electric range, 63 MPGe, 455 hp, 523 lb-ft of torque and a 0–60 mph estimate of 4.5 seconds. Volvo calls its power figures preliminary estimates and says acceleration varies with conditions. Its range estimate is based on EPA driving cycles, but the page is not fixed to model year 2025. Treat these as current manufacturer-published figures, not a substitute for the exact certification for a particular 2025 vehicle.

Volvo lists an 18.8-kWh battery and a typical five-hour charge from 0 to 100 percent using a two-phase 16A AC charger. The five-hour figure is typical, not guaranteed: the manufacturer says charge time depends on outdoor and battery temperature, charging equipment, and vehicle and battery condition. The vehicle feature page lists a portable 22.9-foot 120/240V charger as included, so an additional cable should not be assumed necessary; check compatibility and what is supplied with the specific vehicle.
Volvo’s range caveat is important for daily planning: “The actual range achieved under real conditions varies depending on driving behavior, driving conditions, how you maintain your vehicle, battery and other external factors.” The estimate is not a promise that every trip, climate or driving style will deliver the same distance.

Volvo’s current plug-in hybrid overview says the XC60 can use gas power for longer trips and gives a combined maximum travel claim of up to 580 miles with a full tank and charged battery. That is a current overview-page claim, not a confirmed 2025 model-year figure or independent range test.

Choose the B5 if you do not want to manage charging
The B5 is the lower-priced route into the 2025 XC60 lineup and avoids the plug-in routine. Volvo’s current B5 page describes it as a 247-hp AWD mild hybrid and lists 26 mpg combined, though those live-page figures are not model-year-locked 2025 ratings. It is the simpler fit if you cannot charge regularly or do not want to plan around charging.

Consider the T8 if you can charge consistently
The T8’s plug-in capability is most relevant when home, workplace or other dependable charging is available and typical trips often fit within Volvo’s current up-to-35-mile electric-range estimate. In that situation, charging can make the electric component useful in ordinary driving while gas power remains available for longer journeys. This is a practical inference from the powertrain and published range, not a verified fuel-savings calculation.
The T8 also has much higher published power and torque and a quicker manufacturer-estimated 0–60 time than the figures generally associated with a mild-hybrid powertrain; however, the cited T8 numbers are current Volvo estimates rather than 2025-specific test results. The price premium may appeal for performance and plug-in flexibility, but the supplied figures do not establish a payback period or total-cost advantage.

- Exact 2025 EPA-certified electric range, MPGe or fuel economy by trim.
- Independent road-test acceleration, real-world electric range or driving impressions.
- Trim-by-trim equipment differences for the 2025 model year.
- Current dealer inventory, discounts, transaction prices or out-the-door costs.
- Fuel savings, tax-credit eligibility, incentives or total cost of ownership. Those depend on factors such as driving patterns, local electricity and fuel prices, applicable rules, equipment and purchase terms.
