The 2025 Volvo V60 Cross Country is a raised, all-wheel-drive luxury wagon for people who want useful cargo space and all-weather confidence without another SUV. Its appeal is less about proving it can go anywhere than about offering a distinctive, practical alternative to the familiar SUV shape. “Nobody cares” is headline attitude, not a claim about measured popularity: the available figures do not establish how rare the V60 is in sales.
What the 2025 V60 Cross Country is
In the U.S. 2025 lineup, the V60 Cross Country is a five-seat wagon with a raised suspension and standard all-wheel drive. That combination gives it a higher stance and more rough-road capability than a conventional wagon while keeping the long-roof body shape. It is not a full off-road SUV. Volvo’s current model page also highlights features such as Off Road mode, ground clearance and Hill Descent Control, but that current page does not by itself verify the equipment specification of every 2025 vehicle.
The Cross Country’s distinctive look is part of the point: it has the stretched proportions and cargo access of a wagon, with a stance that nods toward an SUV. In a market where SUV-shaped vehicles are the familiar choice, that makes it an appealingly different kind of premium family car—not proof that it is objectively the coolest or statistically rare.
2025 U.S. trims, powertrain and fuel economy
Cars.com’s U.S. 2025 specification listing identifies two Cross Country trims, both with the B5 mild-hybrid powertrain. The figures below are listed specifications, not a local dealer quote; confirm equipment and current pricing for the specific vehicle you are considering.
#1 Best Overall
- 1:64 scaled die-cast vehicle.
- Metallic tan finish.
- 14/125 in the 2017 Matchbox line.
| Trim | Listed starting MSRP | Powertrain and drivetrain | EPA-estimated fuel economy |
|---|---|---|---|
| B5 AWD Plus | $50,300 (Cars.com U.S. 2025 listing) | 247-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with mild-hybrid assistance; 258 lb-ft; eight-speed automatic; AWD standard (Cars.com) | 24 mpg city, 31 highway, 27 combined (Cars.com listing of EPA estimates) |
| B5 AWD Ultra | $55,400 (Cars.com U.S. 2025 listing) | 247-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with mild-hybrid assistance; 258 lb-ft; eight-speed automatic; AWD standard (Cars.com) | 24 mpg city, 31 highway, 27 combined (Cars.com listing of EPA estimates) |
Fuel economy is an estimate, and actual results vary with driving conditions, weather, load and driving style. The top trim’s name changed to Ultra for 2025, according to Car and Driver. The V60 Polestar Engineered plug-in hybrid is a separate model; Car and Driver identifies 2025 as its final year, which should not be confused with the B5 Cross Country covered here.
How it drives: composed, but not especially quick
Car and Driver describes the Cross Country as agile and planted when it is not being pushed too hard, while noting that the base model could use more power. In that publication’s test, the V60 Cross Country accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds. That is Car and Driver’s result, not a manufacturer claim or a promise of what every car will achieve.

- Volvo 240 Drift Wagon (JBB40) - detailed Hot Wheels model car in 1:64 scale
- Legendary Volvo estate in drift look with silver finish, start number 240 and realistic sponsor logos
- Officially licensed product from Volvo Car Corporation and Michelin
- Part of the Hot Wheels Wagons Familiales Series 2025 - Number 227/250, 3/5 in the subseries
- Sporty details such as wide body kit, roof spoiler and transparent bonnet
The B5’s output is best understood as adequate for everyday driving rather than a performance selling point. The raised suspension and standard AWD support the car’s all-weather, rough-road brief; they do not turn it into a high-clearance off-roader. Buyers who prioritize brisk acceleration or serious trail capability should weigh those expectations against the Cross Country’s wagon-focused strengths.
What the wagon shape gives you—and what it does not
The long roof and wagon tail provide a practical cargo opening while preserving a lower, more car-like profile than an SUV. That is the central trade: useful cargo access and an unusual silhouette in exchange for less of the upright, high-riding format some SUV shoppers prefer. The available specifications here do not establish a cargo-volume or passenger-space comparison with specific rival SUVs, so shoppers should compare the exact vehicles and their own cargo needs in person.

- It makes sense if you want a premium wagon with standard AWD, a raised stance, and a distinctive alternative to the common SUV form.
- Think carefully if your priorities are strong acceleration, maximum off-road ability, or the tallest, most upright cargo-and-seating layout.
- Before buying compare the Plus and Ultra vehicles you can actually find, inspect the cargo area for your usual loads, and verify current local pricing, equipment and accessory fitment. The listed MSRPs are U.S. model-listing figures, not current offers or transaction prices.
For the right buyer, the 2025 V60 Cross Country’s charm is its balance: restrained luxury, wagon utility and all-weather confidence in a shape that has not followed the crowd. Its case is distinctive practicality, not headline-grabbing speed or SUV-level off-road credentials.
