It is a refresh, not a new generation. The lineup has four trims—S, SE, SE Black and SEL—and offers front-wheel drive or 4MOTION all-wheel drive, depending on configuration.
What changed for the 2025 Volkswagen Taos?
The headline changes are revised front-end styling and a 16-hp increase. Volkswagen describes the exterior update as a redesigned front bumper and grille, along with an illuminated VW logo. Those are manufacturer-described changes; they do not make the 2025 Taos a wholly new generation.
Inside, the order guide shows equipment differences across the S, SE, SE Black and SEL. Wheel designs, lighting, seat upholstery, comfort features and driver-assistance equipment vary by trim, so a feature shown in an image or listed on one version should not be assumed to be standard throughout the range.
How much power does the 2025 Taos have?
Volkswagen of America’s July 2025 retail order guide specifies a 1.5-liter TSI turbocharged four-cylinder with direct injection, producing 174 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Car and Driver reports that the preceding model year was rated at 158 hp, with torque also at 184 lb-ft. The change is a model-year power rating increase; it does not by itself establish a particular improvement in acceleration, fuel economy or reliability.

The U.S. 2025 Taos uses an eight-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic. The order guide lists both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations. The SEL is AWD-only. Earlier launch-era Taos information describing a seven-speed DSG for AWD is not the applicable transmission specification for this 2025 model.
What are the 2025 Taos trims and features?
Volkswagen lists four U.S. trims: S, SE, SE Black and SEL. The order guide’s feature matrix shows that equipment depends on trim and configuration, including wheel choices, lighting, upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and IQ.DRIVE features. It also lists adaptive front lighting on selected trims. Check the order guide or the specific vehicle’s equipment listing to confirm whether a feature is included on the version you are considering.

How much does the 2025 Volkswagen Taos cost?
Published prices differ by date and by whether destination is included. Volkswagen of America’s Week 28 retail order guide, effective July 14, 2025, lists the S FWD at $25,495 before a $1,425 destination charge, or $26,920 with destination. The same guide lists the S 4MOTION vehicle price at $27,195 before destination. These are dated manufacturer retail prices, not current dealer offers or transaction prices. Volkswagen’s Taos page may display information for a later model year, so verify the model year when comparing online listings.
At launch, Car and Driver reported an announced base price of $26,420 for the 2025 Taos S FWD including destination, with a $1,425 destination fee. That August 10, 2024 pricing update predates Volkswagen’s July 2025 retail guide, which lists a different total. Treat the two figures as prices published at different times rather than interchangeable current quotes. Car and Driver’s launch pricing report provides the earlier figure.

How should you compare Taos versions?
Start with the specific configuration, not just the trim name. FWD and 4MOTION AWD are separate choices, and the SEL is offered only with AWD. Then compare equipment on the individual vehicle, since comfort, lighting, wheel and technology features vary across trims.
- Trim and equipment: Check the vehicle’s listed features rather than assuming an option or pictured detail is standard.
- Drivetrain: Decide whether FWD meets your needs or whether you want one of the available 4MOTION AWD versions.
- Price basis: Compare prices from the same date and include destination consistently.
- Accessories: For items such as 2025 Volkswagen Taos all-weather floor mats, verify explicit 2025 model-year, trim and floor-configuration compatibility before buying.
The available published information establishes specifications and dated list prices, but not dealer discounts, current inventory, independently measured 2025 acceleration or fuel economy, or an independent safety rating for this model year.
