Its U.S. lineup keeps the same 158-hp turbocharged engine and eight-speed automatic across S, Sport, SE and SEL trims; the refresh is chiefly visual and adds an 8-inch infotainment screen. Published starting prices range from $23,220 to $30,225, but they are not live dealer offers.
What changed for 2025?
The refreshed Jetta gets revised front and rear lighting and grille details, along with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The cabin’s climate functions use touch controls, a decision that can be less straightforward to use while driving than conventional knobs or buttons. Car and Driver also reports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless charging on SE and SEL trims. The core non-GLI powertrain is carried across the lineup.
These details describe the U.S.-market sedan. Volkswagen’s 2025 U.S. order guide is dated July 17, 2024, and is marked unpriced; it is useful for equipment, not current transaction prices.
How does the Jetta drive and commute?
Powertrain and everyday pace
Every listed U.S. non-GLI trim—S, Sport, SE and SEL—uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder rated at 158 hp and 184 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, according to Volkswagen of America’s order guide. That consistent setup makes trim choice primarily a decision about equipment rather than engine output.

The regular Jetta is better understood as calm transportation than as a sports sedan. Car and Driver reports that an earlier automatic SEL reached 60 mph in 7.1 seconds; that is not a 2025 trim-specific instrumented result. Reviews by Car and Driver and CARFAX describe the ride as comfortable or smooth, while CARFAX characterizes the drive as less exciting. Those are review impressions, not a guarantee of how every road or driver will feel.
Fuel economy
Car and Driver reports EPA estimates of 31 mpg city and 41 highway for the S automatic, and 29 city and 40 highway for Sport, SE and SEL. Check the EPA label on the exact car you are considering, since ratings apply to the specific configuration. Car and Driver’s 42-mpg result on a 75-mph route came from earlier automatic Jetta models, not a 2025 test.
Space and daily usability
Car and Driver lists a 14-cubic-foot trunk; CARFAX gives 14.1 cubic feet, so about 14 cubic feet is a fair shorthand. Car and Driver’s published dimensions are a 105.7-inch wheelbase, 186.5-inch length, 70.8-inch width and 57.7-inch height. Car and Driver and CARFAX both describe the cabin as spacious or roomy. The touch-based HVAC interface is the main usability trade-off to consider during a test drive: try changing temperature and fan settings before deciding whether it works for you.

Which 2025 Jetta trim should you buy?
Car and Driver lists the following U.S. base prices. These are published list figures, not current local dealer quotes; destination charges, incentives, inventory and dealer pricing can change the amount you pay.

| Sport | $24,500 | Cloth seats; 17-inch wheels; heated front seats; ambient lighting |
| SE | $26,200 | CloudTex/V-Tex leatherette; power driver seat; heated front seats; wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and wireless charging, as reported by Car and Driver |
| SEL | $30,225 | Vienna leather; ventilated front seats; configurable 10.25-inch digital cockpit; heated steering wheel; wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and wireless charging, as reported by Car and Driver |
Trim equipment is summarized from Volkswagen of America’s 2025 order guide; connectivity details are reported by Car and Driver. The guide lists heated front seats on Sport and above, power driver seating beginning with SE, and ventilated front seats and the configurable digital cockpit on SEL.
- S: Choose it when minimizing the purchase price matters most and the base equipment meets your needs.
- Sport: Consider it if you want heated front seats and the larger wheels without moving to leatherette seating.
- SE: This is the step up for a power driver seat, leatherette upholstery and the wireless phone features reported by Car and Driver.
- SEL: Its case rests on the extra comfort and cabin technology—leather, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and the configurable digital display—not extra power.
Before settling on a trim, compare the window sticker and the vehicle itself: equipment can vary by configuration, and a dealer’s total should account for destination, fees and any discounts or add-ons.

What safety equipment and ratings should buyers know?
Volkswagen’s order guide lists IQ.DRIVE as standard across S, Sport, SE and SEL. Its listed functions include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Assist, Front Assist with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking/pedestrian monitoring, Active Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert. Driver-assistance systems have limits and do not replace attentive driving; confirm the equipment on the specific car.

IIHS also lists blind-spot detection, lane-departure warning/prevention and rear automatic braking among the Jetta’s standard features. No overall NHTSA star rating is stated here.

How does it compare with other compact sedans?
The Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and Mazda3 are reasonable alternatives to cross-shop, but the right comparison is the exact trim and equipment you can buy. Compare the out-the-door price, EPA rating, passenger and cargo space, ride and handling character, safety results and control layout rather than choosing on reputation alone.
CARFAX’s comparison describes the Civic as engaging to handle, the Corolla as comfortable with standard driver aids, and the Elantra as strong on features and fuel economy. Those are CARFAX’s shorthand impressions, not a complete head-to-head test. The Jetta’s distinctive appeal is its comfortable, roomy daily-driver character and efficiency; a test drive is especially useful if touch climate controls are a concern.
What warranty and maintenance coverage is reported?
Car and Driver reports a U.S. limited warranty of four years or 50,000 miles and complimentary scheduled maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles. Confirm the current Volkswagen warranty documents, exclusions and terms for the specific vehicle before treating those figures as purchase terms.
