The 2025 Subaru WRX tS is a chassis-and-braking upgrade, not a more powerful WRX or a return of the STI. Its 271-hp turbocharged engine and six-speed manual carry over, while STI-tuned electronically controlled dampers, Brembo brakes, summer tires and performance seats give the tS its distinct character. Reviewers describe it as more composed and responsive in corners; Edmunds’ instrumented results provide one outlet’s measured snapshot, not a promise of identical performance for every driver.
What is different about the 2025 WRX tS?
The tS adds hardware focused on controlling the car and managing its speed, while retaining the WRX’s core powertrain. Subaru describes the dampers as electronically adjustable and tuned by STI. Its feature page lists Comfort, Normal and Sport modes; the 2025 brochure lists Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport+ presets, so the published mode descriptions differ by source.
- Suspension: STI-tuned electronically controlled dampers with selectable settings.
- Brakes: Gold-finished Brembo fixed calipers, with six pistons at the front and two at the rear. Subaru’s 2025 brochure specifies 13.4-inch front and 12.8-inch rear discs.
- Wheels and tires: Satin gray 19-inch wheels with standard 245/35 R19 Bridgestone Potenza S007 summer tires.
- Cabin: Recaro performance-design front seats and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Does the WRX tS have more power, and is it a real STI?
No. Subaru rates the tS’s turbocharged 2.4-liter direct-injection BOXER engine at 271 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, the same output cited for the broader 2025 WRX lineup. The tS is paired with a six-speed manual and Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The GT is the exception to Subaru’s manual-standard WRX lineup: it is automatic-only.

“Tuned by STI” refers to the tS’s chassis calibration and equipment; it does not make the car an STI model. The tS is not a revival of the discontinued WRX STI, and its hardware does not add engine output. Subaru’s May 2024 tS debut announcement and November 2024 pricing announcement identify the trim and its equipment.
How does the tS drive, and what did Edmunds measure?
Ars Technica reviewer Jim Resnick describes sharper handling and responsiveness from the tS’s dampers, stiffer engine mounts, reworked steering rack and Brembo brakes. Resnick did not conduct measured hard-acceleration testing, so acceleration figures should not be attributed to that review.

Edmunds’ March 27, 2025 instrumented test reported these results for its tested tS:

These are Edmunds’ results under its test conditions, not guaranteed outcomes or a claim that the tS accelerates faster than other WRXs. In Edmunds’ comparison, a tested WRX Limited also recorded 6.0 seconds from 0–60 mph; it stopped from 60 mph in 110 feet and recorded 0.98 g on the skidpad. Those are outlet-specific tests, not controlled comparisons of every car in every condition. Edmunds senior vehicle test editor Kurt Niebuhr described the tS’s cornering behavior this way: “You can attack a corner on the brakes and the tS will subtly rotate toward the apex, allowing you to pick up the throttle earlier for a quicker exit.”

What tires come on the 2025 WRX tS?
Subaru specifies Bridgestone Potenza S007 summer tires in size 245/35 R19 as standard tS equipment. For a replacement, match the complete fitment—not only the size—including load and speed ratings, and check the current product listing and your vehicle’s tire placard. The manufacturer’s 2025 WRX pricing announcement names the tire size and model.

Is the 2025 WRX tS worth it?
That depends on whether its chassis equipment is worth the premium to you. The tS’s case rests on adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes, the specified summer-tire setup, Recaro front seats and a manual transmission—not extra horsepower. Edmunds found the car balanced and composed through corners, but questioned its value relative to a Limited. In its dated comparison, Edmunds also said the Civic Type R and GR Corolla were close in price and characterized them as offering better technology and interior materials. Those are Edmunds’ judgments, not universal measures of which car suits a buyer.
Price figures need their basis attached. Subaru announced a $45,705 MSRP for the tS on November 27, 2024. Edmunds later listed $46,875 including destination for its tested vehicle. Neither figure establishes today’s dealer price or a current transaction offer. Check a current local quote before comparing prices.

For comparisons with the WRX Limited or GT, Honda Civic Type R or Toyota GR Corolla, focus on the transmission and powertrain, chassis and brake equipment, same-outlet measured tests where available, price basis, and daily-use considerations such as damper settings and seat fit. A manufacturer specification, an outlet’s test result and a dated price listing are different kinds of evidence.
