Ram lists up to 164 miles combined for a Cargo Van carrying 50% of its payload; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured road-test result. Car and Driver’s initial drive found responsive-feeling acceleration, alongside steering it described as light and somewhat vague.
What is the 2025 Ram ProMaster EV?
It is the electric version of Ram’s front-wheel-drive commercial van, offered for cargo and step-van delivery applications. The choice is not just between electric and gasoline power: body style, length, roof and upfit all affect how useful a particular van will be for a fleet.
Ram says the Cargo Van’s 200-kW electric drive module produces 268 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque, with front-wheel drive. Its battery is rated at 110 kWh in the 2025 fleet buyer guide. Those are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent test. Ram’s 2025 ProMaster EV model page and 2025 fleet buyer guide describe the model and specifications.
How far can it go on a delivery route?
Ram’s current product information gives the Cargo Van a range of up to 164 miles combined city and highway while carrying 50% of its payload. The 2025 fleet buyer guide separately lists up to 162 miles for its specified delivery configuration. These are manufacturer figures for different descriptions/configurations; neither is an independent real-world road-test result, and they should not be treated as interchangeable. For a fleet, the useful question is not whether a headline range covers a route on paper. Compare the longest daily route with expected load, weather and stop pattern, then allow for the distance needed to reach a depot or charger. If the van must complete a long or variable route without a reliable charging window, the manufacturer’s maximum figure alone cannot establish that it will work.
MotorTrend reported about 1.5 miles per kWh in its review context for a 2024 Delivery model. That observation concerns a prior model year and delivery body, and does not establish efficiency for every 2025 configuration, load or route. MotorTrend’s 2024 first-drive review.

Can it carry a full delivery load?
Payload depends on the configuration and the source’s stated vehicle. Ram’s current FAQ says the 3500 High Roof Cargo Van with a 159-inch wheelbase has up to 3,170 pounds of payload. Stellantis’s February 13, 2025 order announcement gives up to 3,020 pounds for cargo versions, while the 2025 fleet guide lists 2,782 pounds for its delivery configuration. These figures describe different applications; they are not competing payload ratings for one identical van.
Before choosing a vehicle, check its door-jamb payload label and account for the weight of shelving, refrigeration, lift equipment, tools and other upfits. The usable capacity for packages is what remains after the van and its installed equipment are accounted for. What did the first drive find?
Car and Driver’s initial drive of the ProMaster EV found acceleration that felt stronger than in the gasoline ProMaster, but steering that felt light and somewhat vague. The outlet also noted the battery’s mass. Its early-build test vehicle did not have adjustable regenerative braking, and the review was not a long-term fleet test or a measured performance comparison. The same outlet notes that the Ram’s front-wheel-drive layout differs from the rear-wheel-drive Ford E-Transit and Mercedes-Benz eSprinter. That distinction can matter when evaluating maneuverability and how a van fits a particular operation, but the available information here does not provide current, directly comparable specifications or prices for those rivals.

How can you charge it?
Ram describes household 120-volt Level 1 charging, 240-volt Level 2 charging and public Level 3 DC fast charging as options. An available Free2move Charge Level 2 unit can be hardwired or plugged into a 240-volt outlet. Ram’s consulted charging information does not establish a charging-time figure, so do not assume a specific turnaround time or that charging will be convenient at every site. Which configuration fits a fleet?
Start with the work the van will do, rather than choosing by range or payload headline alone. Cargo Van and Step Van/delivery configurations target different missions, while body length and roof height affect cargo space and fit at loading areas. - Usable payload: Subtract upfit and equipment weight from the specific vehicle’s rated payload.
- Body and cargo fit: Confirm length, roof height, cargo volume and access suit the packages and facilities on the route.
- Drive layout and handling: Consider whether front-wheel drive and the vehicle’s maneuverability work for the routes and loading sites.
- Charging access: Assess depot, home and public charging availability alongside the electrical work required.
- Total purchase economics: Verify current quotes, incentives and eligibility when making a decision; an announcement price is not a current offer.
Stellantis announced a starting MSRP of $56,495 plus $1,995 destination for the Cargo Van and a $69,995 starting price plus destination for the Step Van on February 13, 2025. Those are historical announcement prices, not current listings or quotes. Stellantis’s order announcement.
Is it a practical electric delivery van?
It is a plausible fit for a local fleet whose routes and return-to-base schedule leave dependable charging time, and whose selected body and payload accommodate the actual delivery setup. Its range and load capacity cannot be assessed from one maximum figure: Ram’s published values vary by configuration and payload condition. For operations with longer or unpredictable routes, limited charging access, or heavy upfits, verify the specific van’s payload label and map the duty cycle before committing.
