The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera is the rear-wheel-drive entry point to the refreshed 992.2 range, but “entry-level” does not mean modest performance: Porsche specifies a 394 PS twin-turbo flat-six and standard eight-speed PDK. Independent testing found strong acceleration, braking and grip, while the buying question is whether the base car’s equipment and two-seat-plus-rear-seat layout suit your routine—or whether the higher-priced Carrera S or GTS is a better fit.
What the 2025 Carrera is—and what this review covers
For the U.S. market, Porsche announced the 2025 Carrera as a rear-wheel-drive Coupe or Cabriolet. It is the non-hybrid base model in the refreshed 911 Carrera range, powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six and paired with an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. This review focuses on that base Carrera; equipment and performance associated with the S or GTS should not be assumed to be included.

They do not imply a firsthand drive: the available independent findings substantiate performance and steering impressions, not detailed ride, noise or long-distance comfort conclusions.

Porsche’s factory performance figures
Porsche specifies 290 kW (394 PS) and 450 Nm of maximum torque for the 3.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine. The company attributes the engine’s revisions to charge-air cooling hardware derived from the prior-generation Turbo and turbochargers derived from the prior-generation GTS. An eight-speed PDK is standard.

What independent testing found
Edmunds measured an 11.7-second quarter-mile at 117.2 mph, a 102-foot stop from 60 mph, and 1.07 g on its 200-foot skidpad in its test car. Edmunds described the steering as communicative and the handling as neutral and balanced. These results belong to that particular test car and its test conditions, rather than every Carrera configuration. Edmunds’ 2025 Carrera test.

Car and Driver also noted strong steering responsiveness in its test. Its car carried options, so its configuration and price should not be treated as representative of a standard-spec Carrera. Car and Driver’s 2025 Carrera test.

Porsche positions the 911 as a sports car with day-to-day usability. That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent finding about every aspect of comfort. The available independent observations support a picture of responsive steering and composed handling, but do not establish measured cabin noise, detailed ride comfort, long-distance comfort or material quality for the base Carrera. For an owner, the practical questions are specific to their own use: whether the rear seats and luggage space meet their needs, whether an open-top Cabriolet suits their climate, and which comfort or convenience options they want. The sources cited here do not establish measured cargo capacity or a complete U.S. list of standard equipment, so confirm both against the exact model-year configuration before ordering.
How much did the 2025 Carrera cost at launch?
Porsche announced these U.S. launch MSRPs in 2024. They are historical starting prices, not current 2026 prices, dealer quotes or transaction prices.

How do the Carrera, Carrera S and GTS differ?
The base Carrera is the starting point, while Porsche positioned the Carrera S between it and the GTS. The GTS uses Porsche’s T-Hybrid powertrain; it is not the same configuration as the base car’s non-hybrid twin-turbo six. The table separates the evidence available for each version rather than implying identical equipment.

| Model | U.S. launch price evidence | Powertrain or equipment distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Carrera | Coupe $120,100; Cabriolet $133,400, announced in 2024. | Rear-wheel drive; 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six; standard eight-speed PDK. |
| Carrera S | Coupe $146,400; Cabriolet $159,600, announced for the 2025 model year. Porsche’s stated delivery, processing and handling fee is additional. | A separate trim positioned between Carrera and GTS; do not attribute its specifications or equipment to the base model. |
| GTS | Not stated in the cited launch-price evidence. | Uses the T-Hybrid powertrain. Porsche’s current U.S. model page marks PDCC as available only on GTS models. |
The S prices are Porsche’s launch MSRPs, not current quotes; the announcement does not make those prices a direct comparison of similarly equipped cars. Options and actual transaction prices can change the gap. Porsche’s U.S. model page also marks PTV Plus unavailable on Carrera and lists PDCC as available only on GTS models. Because Porsche’s page covers multiple variants, check the precise 2025 trim’s equipment before treating a feature as standard, optional or unavailable. Who should consider the base Carrera?
- Consider it if you want the 911’s rear-wheel-drive layout, twin-turbo six and PDK without moving up to S or GTS pricing.
- Compare Coupe and Cabriolet against your climate and how often you would use the open roof; the launch price difference is substantial, and the Cabriolet is a distinct body-style choice.
- Build the car around your needs. Review the exact base-trim equipment list and option costs rather than relying on features shown across Porsche’s broader 911 pages or on an independently tested, optioned car.
- Price the finished configuration. The historical launch MSRP does not tell you today’s inventory price or the cost of the equipment you select.
Verdict
The 2025 911 Carrera makes a strong case as the core 911 experience: Porsche’s stated power and acceleration are serious, and independent testing supports its ability to accelerate, stop and corner with authority. Its appeal is clearest for buyers who value that performance and handling while preferring the base trim’s lower starting point to the S or GTS. The decision is less about whether it is fast enough than about body style, required equipment and the price of the specific car you can buy.
