It looks like a strong utility-and-value play if those compromises suit your driving.
What changed for 2025?
The Kicks is redesigned for the 2025 model year. Nissan says the new model adds front shoulder room and rear knee and shoulder room compared with the 2024 Kicks. It also introduces available all-wheel drive (AWD) across all three grades—S, SV, and SR—for the first time on the nameplate. AWD models add a Snow mode. Nissan’s 2025 Kicks press kit describes the redesign as a mix of technology, versatility, and available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.
Nissan lists 95.7 cubic feet of passenger volume and highlights a hidden compartment beneath the cargo floor. That combination—compact exterior dimensions with a relatively tall, flexible cargo area—is central to the Kicks’ appeal.
How much cargo room does the Kicks have?
Cargo capacity depends on both drivetrain and grade. Nissan’s US 2025 brochure lists these figures:

Figures are from the Nissan USA 2025 Kicks brochure. Edmunds, in an assessment republished by AP, describes the cargo area as boxy and versatile and notes that AWD hardware reduces capacity. If you regularly carry bulky items, compare the exact configuration rather than relying on a single cargo-volume figure.
FWD or AWD: which makes more sense?
AWD is available on S, SV, and SR, giving buyers a traction-oriented option that the previous Kicks did not offer. Nissan says AWD adds Snow mode. The choice also affects cargo room and fuel economy:

- Choose FWD if you want the larger listed cargo capacity and Nissan’s higher combined fuel-economy estimate.
- Consider AWD if the added traction and Snow mode matter more to you than the lost cargo space and one-mpg difference in the manufacturer’s combined estimate.
Nissan’s brochure estimates 31 mpg combined for FWD and 30 mpg combined for AWD. Those are EPA estimates published by Nissan, not a guarantee of what a particular driver will achieve. Edmunds’ assessment says real-world fuel economy disappointed its testers; that judgment is Edmunds’ evaluation, not a result of this review’s own drive.
What are the 2025 Kicks trims and launch prices?
Nissan announced the following original US launch MSRPs in 2024. Destination and handling was $1,390 extra; taxes, title, license, and options were excluded. Nissan also said dealers set actual prices, so these figures are historical launch MSRPs—not current asking prices or a guide to today’s transaction costs.

S
The entry S includes Safety Shield 360, Intelligent Cruise Control, LED exterior lighting, and a 7-inch touchscreen, according to Nissan’s launch materials. It is the lowest-cost route into the redesigned Kicks, including AWD availability.

SV
The SV adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and 17-inch wheels in Nissan’s launch equipment description. It is the step up for buyers who want a larger screen and more convenience equipment.
SR
The SR brings a more premium equipment mix, with features such as available 19-inch wheels, ProPILOT Assist, and an around-view monitor depending on package. Check the specific vehicle’s equipment list: these features should not be assumed to be standard on every SR.

How does it drive?
Nissan lists a 141-horsepower 2.0-liter engine for the redesigned Kicks. That specification comes from Nissan’s press materials; it does not by itself establish how quick the vehicle feels on the road. Edmunds’ assessment characterizes acceleration as tepid, especially when trying to make a quick burst of speed for highway merging. That is a useful caution for shoppers who often merge into fast traffic or prioritize brisk acceleration, but it is Edmunds’ assessment rather than a firsthand impression from this article.
What safety and driver-assistance equipment does it offer?
Nissan says Safety Shield 360 is standard across the 2025 Kicks range; the launch announcement specifically lists it on the S. The exact driver-assistance and convenience equipment varies by grade and package. ProPILOT Assist and the Intelligent Around View Monitor are available or package-dependent, rather than features to assume come on every Kicks.
For crash-test context, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s 2025 Kicks rating page records Good ratings in the driver-side and passenger-side small-overlap frontal evaluations. IIHS identifies the tested vehicle as a 2025 Kicks S four-door 4WD and says Nissan conducted those tests; the ratings apply to 2025–26 models. Those two results are specific frontal evaluations, not a complete account of every safety test or an overall safety designation.
Is the 2025 Nissan Kicks a good buy?
Edmunds’ assessment, republished by AP, sees the redesigned Kicks as good value, with strong utility and appealing styling, while flagging acceleration and real-world fuel economy as drawbacks. The practical buying question is whether you value its room, equipment, and new AWD option more than you value stronger acceleration or maximum cargo capacity. FWD preserves more of the Kicks’ listed cargo space; AWD offers Snow mode and added traction capability at a measurable space and estimated-efficiency cost.
