Yes: the iconic GT-R trait in the 2025 Nissan Z headline is Bayside Blue paint. Nissan announced the color for the Z as a nod to its GT-R heritage—not as a claim that the two cars share a platform or mechanical package.
What does the 2025 Nissan Z inherit from the GT-R?
It inherits the option of wearing Bayside Blue, a color Nissan associates with the GT-R. Nissan North America announced the shade for the 2025 Z on March 6, 2025, describing it as the iconic Nissan GT-R shade. Nissan North America’s announcement identifies the paint connection; it does not say the Z inherits GT-R hardware.
That distinction matters: a shared color reference is a heritage link, not evidence of shared drivetrain, platform, or other mechanical parts.
How Bayside Blue became a GT-R color
Nissan Australia’s 2025 account traces the color lineage to Champion Blue, which debuted on the 1995 R33 GT-R LM. Bayside Blue itself debuted with the R34 GT-R. Nissan says the shade was later unofficially retired and returned for the 2019 GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition. Nissan Australia’s history and announcement places the Z’s color choice in that lineage.

Warwick Daly, Deputy Director Product & Retail Campaigns at Nissan Australia, described the connection this way: “The new Z is an icon reborn, and it is only fitting that it now shares Bayside Blue with another Nissan legend, the R34 GT-R.” This is Nissan’s promotional framing of the color relationship.
Where was Bayside Blue offered on the 2025 Z?
Availability announcements were market-specific. Nissan North America announced Bayside Blue for the U.S. 2025 Z. Separately, Nissan Australia said its 2025 range would offer Bayside Blue on the Z Coupe only; two other new colors were offered across both Z and Z NISMO. These announcements should not be read as a worldwide color-availability list, and model-year availability can change by market.

Are there other GT-R-inspired details in the Z?
Yes, but they are separate from the Bayside Blue headline. Nissan’s U.S. press kit and brochure use “GT-R-inspired” language for cockpit details such as the steering wheel. The U.S. brochure lists steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters on Performance and NISMO grades, not as a universal feature across the range. Nissan’s 2025 Z press materials and 2025 U.S. brochure distinguish design references and grade equipment from the paint story.
For specification context, Nissan’s U.S. materials list the Sport-grade 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 at 400 hp at 6,400 rpm and 350 lb-ft from 1,600 to 5,600 rpm. The NISMO-tuned version is rated at 420 hp at 6,400 rpm and 384 lb-ft from 2,000 to 5,200 rpm. The brochure lists a six-speed manual for Sport and Performance, a nine-speed automatic for NISMO, and paddle shifters for Performance and NISMO. Those are U.S. 2025 specifications and equipment distinctions, not evidence that the Z has a GT-R powertrain.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish
Nissan’s U.S. announcement gave a starting MSRP of $42,970 when it was published on March 6, 2025. That is a dated manufacturer figure, not a current dealer quote or transaction price. Neither that MSRP nor the paint announcement establishes today’s inventory, pricing, or availability in every market.
Nissan Australia describes Bayside Blue as popular but provides no survey or sales figure in its announcement. The official material supports the heritage association and the stated market-specific availability, not a quantified claim about buyer demand.
