Nissan said that was less than $500 above the previous generation’s starting price—but that comparison is about Nissan’s own base MSRPs, not dealer transaction prices or the broader cost of new cars. The $1,390 destination charge was extra, and dealers set actual prices.
How much did the 2025 Nissan Kicks cost at launch?
Nissan North America announced these U.S. MSRPs on August 13, 2024. The figures exclude the $1,390 destination and handling charge, as well as tax, title, license, and options. They are launch prices, not current local offers.
| Grade and drivetrain | Announced launch MSRP | MSRP plus destination |
|---|---|---|
| S FWD | $21,830 | $23,220 |
| S AWD | $23,330 | $24,720 |
| SV FWD | $23,680 | $25,070 |
| SV AWD | $25,330 | $26,720 |
| SR FWD | $26,180 | $27,570 |
| SR AWD | $27,680 | $29,070 |
MSRPs and destination are from Nissan North America’s August 13, 2024 announcement; the final column adds Nissan’s stated destination charge to each MSRP. It is not an out-the-door price: taxes, title, registration, options, dealer-installed accessories, and any dealer charges or discounts can change what a buyer pays.
The $23,220 starting price reported in 2025 by AP’s summary of Edmunds is therefore not a conflicting base MSRP. It equals Nissan’s $21,830 S FWD MSRP plus the $1,390 destination charge. AP’s summary gives the consumer-facing figure with destination included.

Does the Kicks really reverse rising car prices?
No broad market conclusion follows from the launch price alone. Nissan said the 2025 model’s starting MSRP was less than $500 above that of the previous generation. The announcement does not give the earlier model’s exact starting MSRP in the cited passage, so a precise percentage increase cannot be calculated from it. More importantly, a manufacturer’s comparison of two base MSRPs does not show how transaction prices, incentives, or new-car prices overall changed.
The redesigned Kicks also has a higher price as equipment and drivetrain change: the launch MSRP spans $21,830 to $27,680 across six configurations, before destination. The sensible value question is not simply whether the base number looks low, but whether the trim and features you want fit your budget at the price a dealer actually quotes.

What changed with the 2025 redesign?
Nissan’s U.S. lineup includes S, SV, and SR grades, each offered with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. Nissan specifies a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 141 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque, paired with an Xtronic transmission; regular unleaded is the recommended fuel. These are manufacturer specifications described in Nissan’s 2025 Kicks press kit.
More utility and available AWD
Nissan lists cargo capacity of up to 30 cubic feet with the rear seats raised and 60 cubic feet with them folded, plus 8.4 inches of ground clearance. SV and SR grades include a flexible luggage board. These are manufacturer-stated capacities and clearance figures; actual usable space depends on configuration and loading.

AWD is available on all three grades, and Nissan describes an AWD Snow mode. AWD may suit buyers who value that drivetrain option, but it is not a guarantee against a collision or enhanced traction in every condition; Nissan itself cautions that capability depends on circumstances.
Safety and technology vary by grade
Nissan says Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup. Intelligent Cruise Control is included on S and SV, while SR adds ProPILOT Assist. Screen size, wireless phone integration, charging, and other equipment vary by grade and package, so confirm the specific vehicle’s equipment rather than assuming every Kicks includes every advertised feature.

What are the fuel-economy and driving trade-offs?
Nissan’s 2025 brochure listed targeted estimates of 28 city / 35 highway / 31 combined mpg for FWD and 27 / 34 / 30 mpg for AWD. The brochure said these were based on Nissan internal testing, with EPA data unavailable at the time and confirmation pending. They should not be represented as verified EPA ratings. The brochure provides the qualification alongside its estimates.
In AP’s summary of Edmunds, reviewers described acceleration as tepid and real-world fuel economy as disappointing. Those are attributed reviewer observations, not instrumented results documented in the summary. They matter if you prioritize brisk acceleration or want to judge fuel costs from observed driving rather than manufacturer targets.

How should you compare a Kicks offer?
- Choose the matching configuration. Compare the same model year, grade, and drivetrain; an S FWD and an SR AWD are not like-for-like.
- Ask for an itemized out-the-door quote. Have the dealer show vehicle price, destination, dealer-installed options or accessories, fees, taxes, and registration separately. Check incentives and eligibility rather than assuming they apply.
- Compare equivalent equipment and utility. Include standard and optional features, cargo needs, and the value you place on AWD—not just the lowest advertised starting figure.
- Keep fuel-economy evidence consistent. Compare final EPA ratings with EPA ratings, or real-world results with comparable real-world results. Do not set Nissan’s internally tested target estimates against an EPA rating as if they were the same measure.
Because Nissan announced these prices in 2024 for the 2025 U.S. model, they are useful for understanding the launch positioning, not for predicting what a dealer will charge now. Local inventory, dealer pricing, and current incentives were not established by the launch announcement.
