2025 Nissan Armada PRO-4X vs. Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro: Off-Road Family SUV Comparison

The 2025 Sequoia TRD Pro has the higher published maximum tow rating, while the Armada PRO-4X lists adaptive air suspension, all-terrain tires and trim-specific geometry figures. Neither specification sheet proves a trail-performance or cargo-space winner.

The 2025 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro has the higher published maximum tow rating: up to 9,520 pounds, compared with Nissan’s 8,500 pounds for the 2025 Armada. For off-road equipment, the Armada PRO-4X brings adaptive electronic air suspension, all-terrain tires and an off-road bumper with tow hooks; the Sequoia TRD Pro specifies FOX suspension and several low-speed off-road control systems. Those specifications make for a useful comparison, but they do not establish which SUV performs better on a trail. Both can seat up to eight, depending on configuration, and the available figures do not settle which exact trim carries more cargo with every row in use.

What distinguishes the Armada PRO-4X and Sequoia TRD Pro?

These are the most directly relevant off-road-focused trims in their respective 2025 lineups. Nissan emphasizes an all-terrain setup, adaptive air suspension and underbody protection; Toyota lists specialized FOX suspension, a locking differential and a suite of off-road control systems. The equipment descriptions are manufacturer specifications, not results from a direct trail test.

Feature 2025 Nissan Armada PRO-4X 2025 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro
Engine and output 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6; 425 hp and 516 lb-ft, per Nissan’s brochure. i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo V6 hybrid; 437 hp and 583 lb-ft, per Toyota’s 2025 materials.
Off-road suspension Adaptive electronic air suspension. TRD Pro suspension with 2.5-inch FOX internal-bypass coil-overs and rear remote-reservoir shocks; TRD Pro front stabilizer bar.
Tires and protection All-terrain tires, metal skid plate and off-road front bumper with tow hooks. TRD aluminum front skid plate; tire type not stated in the cited Toyota materials.
Rear differential and controls Electronic locking rear differential. Electronically controlled locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control and Downhill Assist Control.
Published maximum tow rating 8,500 lb. Up to 9,520 lb.
Seating capacity Seven with second-row captain’s chairs; eight with a second-row bench. Up to eight; exact seating layout depends on configuration.

Which is better for off-roading?

The published equipment points to different approaches rather than a proven winner. The Armada PRO-4X lists all-terrain tires, a metal skid plate, tow hooks, a locking rear differential and adaptive electronic air suspension. The Sequoia TRD Pro lists FOX internal-bypass coil-overs, rear remote-reservoir shocks, a locking rear differential, a front skid plate and systems designed to assist on varied or steep terrain.

For the Armada PRO-4X, Nissan’s 2025 brochure gives 9.6 inches of minimum ground clearance, a 33-degree approach angle, a 25.5-degree departure angle and a 24.5-degree breakover angle. These are PRO-4X-specific figures and should not be applied to other Armada grades. The cited Toyota material does not provide a directly comparable set of exact TRD Pro geometry figures, so it cannot support a geometry-based winner.

Ground clearance and approach, departure and breakover angles can help shoppers assess whether a vehicle’s shape and clearance suit a particular route. They do not, by themselves, measure traction, suspension behavior or trail performance. Neither the equipment lists nor the available figures establish which SUV is more capable in real-world off-road conditions.

Which SUV tows more?

Toyota publishes the higher maximum: up to 9,520 pounds for the 2025 Sequoia, versus Nissan’s published 8,500-pound maximum for the Armada. These are manufacturer maximum ratings, not guarantees for every trim or vehicle configuration.

Nissan says the Armada has a Class IV hitch and 7-pin harness/pre-wiring across grades. Before choosing either SUV for a trailer, check the specific vehicle’s rating and equipment, available payload, trailer-brake requirements and the trailer’s loaded weight. Passengers, luggage and accessories count toward the vehicle’s load, so a tow rating alone does not tell you whether a particular family-and-trailer combination is within limits.

Which has more room for a family?

Both SUVs offer seating for up to eight, but the layout matters. Nissan specifies eight seats with a second-row bench or seven with captain’s chairs. Toyota lists seating for up to eight; the exact configuration should be confirmed for the vehicle being considered.

Nissan says the 2025 Armada has more cargo room across seating configurations than its predecessor and reports a 24% increase in space behind the third row. That is Nissan’s comparison with the previous Armada, not a comparison with the Sequoia. The available official information does not establish which of these exact off-road trims has more usable cargo space with all rows occupied.

A trim-specific cargo-volume comparison requires comparable dimensions for both configurations.

How to choose between them

  • Prioritize the published maximum tow figure: the Sequoia’s listed maximum is higher, but verify the rating and payload for the exact vehicle and loaded setup.
  • Compare the off-road hardware that matches your use: the Armada lists adaptive air suspension and an off-road bumper with tow hooks; the Sequoia specifies FOX suspension and multiple low-speed control systems. The feature lists do not predict comparative trail results.
  • Need a geometry comparison? Nissan publishes PRO-4X ground-clearance and angle figures, but the cited Toyota materials do not provide matching TRD Pro figures.
  • Choose around passenger and cargo layout: verify the second-row arrangement, third-row access and space in the exact trims rather than relying on brand-level cargo claims.
