Yes—but the 2025 Morgan Plus Four is not a throwback mechanically. It pairs a BMW turbocharged four-cylinder and modern aluminum platform with a hand-formed body and ash-wood frame, then wraps the result in a shape that looks as though sports cars never changed. In the U.S., that character comes with a consequential compromise: the Plus Four is offered only with an eight-speed automatic, while Morgan offers a manual in Europe.
What the 2025 Plus Four is—and what it is not
The Plus Four is a two-seat roadster built around a deliberate contrast: contemporary engineering beneath coachbuilt bodywork. Its chassis/platform is made from bonded aluminum, not wood. Ash is used in the body frame, over which Morgan fits hand-formed aluminum panels. Morgan’s U.S. launch release and U.S. FAQ describe that construction.
That distinction matters because “wooden chassis” gives the wrong impression. The car has a modern aluminum foundation and double-wishbone suspension, but its ash frame and hand-shaped panels preserve a coachbuilding tradition uncommon among contemporary sports cars. The Plus Four is not a restored vintage car or a replica assembled from old parts; it is a current-production Morgan whose design and construction retain older methods alongside modern hardware.

How it drives: quick, involving and not effortless
MotorTrend recorded 4.3 seconds to 60 mph and a 106-foot stop from 60 mph. Those numbers put real performance behind the vintage silhouette. In its 2025 review, MotorTrend characterized the Plus Four as a weekend-oriented sports car, noted that the Dynamic Handling Pack-equipped car rode stiffly over larger bumps, and suggested drivers might want a break after roughly two hours. It also recommended leaving stability control on during fast driving. Those are observations from that publication’s test car and experience, not universal predictions for every driver or road.

Ars Technica’s August 2025 review likewise described lively acceleration and called the U.S. automatic-only choice a disappointment for some enthusiasts. The U.S. car’s automatic is not simply a matter of personal taste: it is the configuration Morgan sells here. Buyers who specifically want a manual should not assume they can order the European transmission through a U.S. dealer.
The optional Dynamic Handling Pack adds single-way adjustable damping, an adjustable spring platform and a rear anti-roll bar, according to Morgan. It is optional rather than standard, and its effect should be weighed against comfort: MotorTrend’s test car with the pack had a stiff ride over larger bumps. Ars Technica identified the pack as a $2,410.63 option on its reviewed car at the time; that historical, car-specific price is not a current universal price.

What stays traditional—and what has been updated
The roadster’s old-world appearance is not evidence that every detail is frozen in time. Morgan’s April 2024 design updates included new headlights, front and rear splitters, and mirrors. The company’s stated combination is clear: an unmistakably traditional form with modern running gear and selected contemporary design revisions.
That mix explains the Plus Four better than either “retro car” or “modern sports car” alone. It retains the visual and construction character that make it unlike a mass-market roadster, but it is built on an aluminum platform and uses a BMW turbo engine. The experience is consequently about more than straight-line speed: the buyer is choosing a distinctive form of construction and ownership, with the compromises that come with a specialized two-seat roadster.

U.S. availability, buying and the regulatory wrinkle
Morgan says the U.S. Plus Four is homologated under the FAST Act replica-car rule, which permits up to 325 Plus Four sales per year in the United States. The company also says it worked with BMW on an engine package to meet Special Purpose Motor Vehicle regulations for CARB states. This is a market-specific route to U.S. sale, not a statement that the car is certified identically to every mainstream sports car.
Ars Technica’s August 2025 coverage reports exemptions from multiple Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, including provisions involving side-impact protection, ejection mitigation, a hood-latch system and tire-pressure monitoring. That is secondary reporting about the U.S. homologation, not a complete legal determination or a basis for a blanket claim that the car is safe or unsafe. A prospective owner should review the vehicle’s documentation and discuss its applicable equipment and requirements with an authorized dealer.

Morgan USA says buyers order through authorized dealers and gives a typical production-to-delivery estimate of six to twelve months. It is a general estimate, not a promised delivery date; build complexity and component availability can affect timing. Confirm the current ordering process and delivery estimate with the dealer handling the order.
Who should consider the Plus Four?
- It makes sense if: you value coachbuilt character, distinctive construction and an open two-seat sports-car experience as much as conventional practicality.
- Think carefully if: a manual gearbox is essential in a U.S. car, you want a comfortable long-distance daily driver, or you expect ordinary mass-market buying and delivery conditions.
- Before ordering: get a written, itemized price; establish which options are fitted; confirm the delivery estimate; and verify tire specifications and the car’s U.S.-market equipment with the dealer.
The Plus Four is a genuine modern sports car with an unusually traditional body-building approach, not nostalgia pretending to be engineering. Its appeal is inseparable from its concessions: two seats, roadster exposure, specialized dealer-based purchasing and an automatic-only U.S. specification. For the right buyer, those are part of the point; for someone shopping primarily for broad capability or a manual transmission, they are meaningful reasons to look elsewhere.
