Independent testing reported by the Associated Press put the GLE 450e’s 0–60-mph time at 5.7 seconds in an Edmunds comparison. That is a test result, not a replacement for Mercedes’ quoted figure. The AP report says the SUV mainly remains in electric mode when its battery is charged, with the engine joining smoothly when the driver requests maximum power. Electric range and battery: what is confirmed for the U.S.?
Mercedes-Benz USA lists a 23.3-kWh usable high-voltage battery for the U.S. specification. The official U.S. material cited here does not establish a final EPA electric-range figure for the 2025 model. Because electric range depends on the applicable test cycle and market specification, a European figure should not be presented as the U.S. EPA rating.
Mercedes-Benz Germany lists a larger 25.72-kWh usable battery for its European GLE 450 e technical specification. That is a different market specification and should not be substituted for the U.S. battery figure. Mercedes-Benz Germany’s GLE technical page contains the European data.

For the European-market GLE 450 e, Mercedes-Benz Germany lists maximum charging rates of 11 kW AC and 60 kW DC. Its stated times are approximately 2.75 hours for AC charging from 0–100% and 29 minutes for DC charging from 10–80%. These are European specification figures; they are not a guarantee for every charging session and do not establish U.S.-market charging performance.
Charging time in practice can vary with the vehicle’s market specification, charging equipment, battery temperature and starting state of charge. The cited European data gives maximum rates and approximate charging windows rather than a universal time for every plug-in session.

There is no single winner for every buyer. The AP-reported Edmunds comparison found the GLE 450e slightly quicker to 60 mph in its test than Mercedes’ own quoted time suggests, and described its engine transition as seamless when more power is called for. The report also judged the BMW X5 xDrive50e more stable in high-speed cornering. Those observations are useful but do not settle broader questions such as price, range, cargo utility or local service support.
For a fair purchase comparison, check the same model year and market for each SUV, and compare these factors using like-for-like figures:

The evidence cited here supports a narrower conclusion: the GLE 450e offers strong combined output and the AP-reported test found it quick, while that report favored the X5 xDrive50e for high-speed cornering stability. A broader verdict requires comparable, market-specific information on the two vehicles’ other ownership factors.
