For the 2025 U.S. model year, Mercedes-Benz added a rear-wheel-drive E 350 Sedan to the E-Class lineup. It is a return of a rear-drive sedan choice—not a switch to rear-wheel drive across the range: the E 350 is also available with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, while the E 450 is AWD.
Which 2025 E-Class has rear-wheel drive?
The newly added rear-drive model is the 2025 E 350 Sedan. Mercedes-Benz USA described the change in its MY25 update as the “Introduction of new E 350 Sedan (rear-wheel drive).” The E 350 also remains available with 4MATIC, and the E 450 is an all-wheel-drive alternative.
That distinction matters: the headline change is a new drivetrain configuration for one sedan, not a return of the entire E-Class to rear-wheel drive. The AMG E 53 Hybrid is a separate all-wheel-drive performance model.
How do the E 350 and E 450 compare?
The E 350 pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a 23-hp electric motor. Car and Driver reports 255 hp combined. The E 450 uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six hybrid setup rated at 375 hp. The figures below distinguish the current Mercedes-Benz USA model-page claims from independent testing; the page’s prices were accessed October 7, 2026, and are not verified original 2025 launch prices.

Mercedes-Benz USA’s current page lists the E 350 and E 350 4MATIC at the same 255-hp output and 6.1-second 0–60-mph claim. Those are manufacturer page figures, not a same-condition comparison test of the two drivetrains. Car and Driver’s 5.8-second E 350 4MATIC result is an outlet test of its AWD example, not the new rear-drive car.
What do the published prices and fuel-economy figures establish?
The available figures should not be mixed across model years. Mercedes-Benz’s 2024 quick reference guide lists the E 350 4MATIC at $62,300 and the E 450 4MATIC at $68,100, before a $1,150 destination and delivery charge. Those are MY2024 prices for AWD models, not the price of the 2025 rear-drive E 350.

Car and Driver reports EPA estimates of 24 mpg city/33 highway for the E 350 4MATIC and 22/31 mpg for the E 450 4MATIC. It did not yet have fuel-economy figures for the new rear-drive E 350. The AWD ratings therefore should not be assigned to the RWD car, and the available information does not establish that rear drive delivers a particular price saving or fuel-economy advantage.
What else changed for the 2025 model year?
- A center airbag between the front seats became standard equipment.
- MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red became an optional paint color.
- An MB-Tex steering wheel became available when paired with MB-Tex interior upholstery.
These changes are part of Mercedes-Benz USA’s MY25 update and are separate from the drivetrain addition.

Is the rear-drive E 350 the right configuration?
The new model gives U.S. buyers a choice between a rear-drive E 350 and an E 350 with 4MATIC, while the E 450 offers a more powerful six-cylinder setup with all-wheel drive. Choose based on the configuration and powertrain you want; the published figures here do not prove a specific RWD advantage in economy, price, or acceleration.
