Revised electric power steering
Mazda revised the electric power-assisted steering system with a new steering rack, reduced internal friction, and revised electric-assist calibration. The company said the changes were intended to provide a more defined on-center feel during relaxed cruising and greater precision during hard cornering.
This was a refinement of the existing Miata formula, not a switch to a fundamentally different chassis or steering architecture. Exterior and lighting revisions
The refreshed ND received revised headlights with a new LED daytime-running-light element, new LED taillights, and additional wheel designs. These details are why some images of the 2025 car may look different from earlier ND models even though the underlying body and platform remained familiar.
Updated cabin and infotainment
Inside, Mazda revised the gauge cluster, added padding to the center console, and installed a larger 8.8-inch infotainment display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto gained touch functionality through the larger screen. Mazda also introduced Alexa integration for vehicle and connected-home commands.
These are meaningful usability changes, but they should be attributed to the 2024 refresh when explaining the 2025 model. Calling them newly introduced for 2025 would misstate the model-year timeline.

2025 35th Anniversary Edition: the main U.S. model-year novelty

The automatic is therefore not a range-wide option. Buyers specifically seeking a three-pedal car can choose any of the primary Sport, Club, or Grand Touring trims, while the Grand Touring is the version to consider if an automatic is required.
Soft top or RF?
The 2025 MX-5 continued in two basic body configurations: the traditional soft-top roadster and the RF, whose retractable fastback roof gives the car a more coupe-like profile.

Before buying an accessory, verify the exact body style. A cover designed for a soft top should not automatically be assumed to fit an RF, and vice versa. Readers ready to shop should check MX-5 inventory and confirm the vehicle’s trim, transmission, roof type, and VIN rather than relying on a generic model-year price.

What the “spy shots” were really showing
Spy photography is easy to mislabel when a familiar sports car appears under camouflage. Images published before or around the 2025 model-year discussion were sometimes associated with possible next-generation development. That does not make them evidence of a redesigned 2025 production car.
The safest way to read the images is to separate two stories:
