It is not an all-new Miata: most of its meaningful chassis and software changes arrived for 2024 and carried over into 2025.
The biggest 2025-specific addition was the limited-production 35th Anniversary Edition. Since Mazda’s current model year is now 2026, the prices below are historical U.S. MSRPs. They are useful when comparing used or leftover inventory, but they should not be treated as current new-car pricing.

What is the 2025 Mazda Miata?
The 2025 MX-5 Miata is the fourth-generation ND model sold in the United States. Its formula remains unusually simple: a front-midship engine, rear-wheel drive, two seats, low weight, and a six-speed manual transmission. There is no turbocharged engine, all-wheel-drive option, rear seat, or high-power performance variant in the U.S. lineup.

The 2025 car retains the 2024 updates, including revised electric power steering, reduced steering-system friction, an asymmetric limited-slip differential on applicable manual-transmission cars, and DSC-Track stability-control mode.
Soft top or RF: what is the difference?
The soft top is the conventional convertible. Its fabric roof is manually operated and can be opened or closed from the driver’s seat with a straightforward release-and-fold motion. It is the lighter and more open-air choice.
The RF stands for “retractable fastback.” It does not turn into a completely roofless convertible. Instead, its power-operated roof panels retract while the rear buttresses remain in place, giving the car a coupe-like profile when closed and a targa-style opening when open. Mazda says the roof takes about 13 seconds to operate.

The RF roof works only when the ignition is on, the trunk is closed, the transmission is not in Reverse, the car is traveling at no more than 10 km/h—about 6.2 mph—and the vehicle is tilted no more than 15 degrees. That means you cannot operate it while parked on a steep driveway or while moving at ordinary city speeds.

The RF is therefore heavier, slightly tighter above the driver, and marginally less practical than the soft top. Choose it for its styling, added roof security, and greater weather isolation—not because it is the more spacious convertible.
2025 Miata trims and equipment
Sport
The Sport is the entry-level soft-top Miata and comes only with the six-speed manual. It includes:

- Leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift knob, and parking-brake handle
- 8.8-inch Mazda Connect display
- Touchscreen Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

- Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert

The 2025 Sport was offered only with a black soft top. Mazda did not offer the RF body style in this trim.

The Club is the driver-focused version. It is available as either a soft top or RF, but only with the manual transmission. Its hardware additions include:
- 17-inch wheels
- Bilstein dampers
- Front shock-tower brace
- Induction sound enhancer
- Asymmetric limited-slip differential
- DSC-Track stability-control mode
- Heated cloth seats with suede inserts
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Bose nine-speaker audio
- SiriusXM with a three-month trial subscription
- Gloss-black front air dam and rear lip spoiler
The optional Brembo/BBS/Recaro package for the soft-top Club adds Brembo front brakes, red-painted front and rear calipers, dark-gunmetal 17-inch BBS forged wheels, heated Recaro sport seats, gloss-black side-sill extensions, and a rear bumper skirt. Those components were standard on the RF Club.

Grand Touring
The Grand Touring prioritizes comfort and convenience. It adds leather-trimmed and heated seats, automatic climate control, Mazda navigation, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, body-color heated mirrors, an Adaptive Front-lighting System, High Beam Control, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
The manual Grand Touring is an important configuration because it receives the Club’s performance equipment: Bilstein dampers, the shock-tower brace, induction sound enhancer, DSC-Track mode, and asymmetric limited-slip differential.

The automatic Grand Touring does not have the manual model’s performance hardware. It does add Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Distance & Speed Alert. This is why “Grand Touring” alone does not tell you whether a particular car has the Club-style chassis equipment.
35th Anniversary Edition
Mazda built the 35th Anniversary Edition as a soft-top, six-speed-manual model based on the Grand Touring. It is distinguished by Artisan Red Metallic paint, a beige soft top, tan Nappa leather seats, tan carpeting and floor mats, color-matched interior trim, serialized front-fender badging, and 35th Anniversary logos embossed into the headrests.
It also includes bright-finish 17-inch wheels, Bose audio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, heated seats, Bilstein dampers, a shock-tower brace, and an asymmetric limited-slip differential.
Mazda initially announced 300 U.S. examples, then raised the final U.S. allocation to 350 vehicles after additional demand and reservations. Its starting MSRP was $36,250, before destination, taxes, title, registration, and other fees. A used example with low mileage may command more than its original MSRP because of the limited production, but that is a market question rather than a Mazda-listed price.

Mazda’s original U.S. pricing announcement listed the following MSRPs:

Mazda announced a $300 MSRP increase effective September 3, 2025, on select 2025 MX-5 and MX-5 RF models. The 35th Anniversary Edition was excluded. The original published destination charge was $1,185, or $1,230 in Alaska, but destination fees can change. For a used car, check the original window sticker rather than estimating the vehicle’s out-the-door price from these figures.
Size, passenger space, and cargo capacity
The Miata’s small dimensions are central to its appeal, but they also impose practical limits. It has two seats, no rear storage area, and a trunk that is best suited to a couple of small bags rather than luggage for a long trip.

Drivers should sit in one before buying. The low seating position, narrow cabin, limited adjustment range, and short windshield-to-roof proportions suit many people well but can be uncomfortable for taller drivers.

EPA estimates are 26 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined for the manual. Automatic models are rated at 26 city, 35 highway, and 29 combined.
Mazda designs the engine for 91-octane premium unleaded or higher. The car can use 87- to 90-octane gasoline, but Mazda warns that lower octane can reduce output and cause knocking. Fuel below 87 octane, leaded fuel, methanol-containing fuel, and gasoline containing more than 10% ethanol can cause damage or drivability problems.
Tires, pressures, and basic service figures
Sport models use P195/50R16 tires. Miatas with 17-inch wheels use P205/45R17 tires. Mazda lists a cold inflation pressure of 29 psi front and rear for both sizes.
Do not assume that changing tire size or mixing tire types is harmless on a lightweight sports car. The owner’s manual warns that non-specified sizes and mismatched tire types can alter handling and safety systems.

- Engine oil with filter replacement: approximately 4.5 U.S. quarts
- Engine oil without filter replacement: approximately 4.3 quarts
- Fuel tank: approximately 11.9 gallons
Use the vehicle’s under-hood information and owner’s manual for the exact oil specification and maintenance interval. A used Miata’s service records matter, particularly if it has been driven hard, modified, or used for autocross or track days.
Warranty coverage
The standard U.S. Mazda warranty includes:
- New-vehicle limited warranty: 3 years or 36,000 miles
- Powertrain limited warranty: 5 years or 60,000 miles
For a used 2025 Miata, verify the in-service date and mileage. Warranty coverage follows Mazda’s terms and does not automatically cover aftermarket modifications or damage caused by competition use.

NHTSA recall 25V336, Mazda campaign 7425E, affects certain 2024- and 2025-model-year Miatas built in Japan between December 19, 2023, and February 28, 2025. The affected Dynamic Stability Control unit may fail to illuminate the TCS/DSC warning indicator when an abnormal yaw-rate condition is detected. NHTSA listed a potential population of 12,244 vehicles.
The remedy is replacement of the DSC unit with improved software at no cost. The improved unit entered production on March 6, 2025, so not every 2025 Miata is included.

- Obtain the vehicle identification number from the windshield, title, or seller.
- Enter it into the NHTSA recall lookup.
- Ask a Mazda dealer to confirm whether campaign 7425E was completed.
- Do not rely only on the build date or a seller’s statement that the car has no recalls.
Which 2025 Miata should you buy?
For the lowest price and lightest configuration, the Sport is the straightforward choice. It lacks the Club’s chassis upgrades but still delivers the core Miata experience.
The manual Club is the better choice for buyers who regularly seek out winding roads, autocross events, or track days. Its Bilstein dampers, brace, limited-slip differential, and DSC-Track mode are meaningful equipment rather than cosmetic upgrades. The soft top is lighter; the RF Club includes the Brembo/BBS/Recaro hardware.
The manual Grand Touring makes sense when you want comfort features without giving up the Club’s principal dynamic equipment. The automatic Grand Touring is the most relaxed version, but it is also the configuration most likely to be misrepresented in listings: it does not have the manual Grand Touring’s Bilstein dampers, brace, induction sound enhancer, DSC-Track mode, or asymmetric limited-slip differential.
The 35th Anniversary Edition is mainly for collectors and buyers who specifically want its color combination, serialized trim, and limited-production status. Confirm the serial number, condition, documentation, and recall status before paying a premium.
Common 2025 Miata misconceptions
- Every Miata has a limited-slip differential: No. Equipment depends on the trim and transmission. The automatic Grand Touring is not mechanically equivalent to the manual Club or manual Grand Touring.
- The automatic is available in Sport and Club: Not in the U.S. 2025 lineup. It is offered only with Grand Touring.
- The RF is a fully retractable hardtop convertible: Not exactly. It is a retractable-fastback/targa design with fixed rear buttresses.
- The 2025 model introduced the steering and differential revisions: Those changes arrived primarily for 2024 and carried into 2025.
- The Miata simply takes regular gas: It can run on 87- to 90-octane fuel, but Mazda specifies 91 octane or higher for maximum performance and warns about reduced output and possible knocking on lower octane.
- Only 300 35th Anniversary cars were sold in the U.S.: Mazda increased the final U.S. allocation to 350.

Is the 2025 Mazda Miata a good daily driver?
It can be, especially as a commuter or second car, but its two-seat cabin, tiny trunk, low seating position, and limited storage make it less practical than most compact cars. The soft top is lighter and easier to operate; the RF offers a more coupe-like experience.
Does the 2025 Miata come with an automatic transmission?
