Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMazda gave the 2025 CX-30 and MX-5 Miata one visible link: Aero Gray Metallic, a color Mazda said had already appeared on the Miata, became available on the CX-30. The CX-30 also adds Alexa Built-in for the U.S. model year. Those updates do not make the vehicles mechanical twins: one is an all-wheel-drive compact SUV, the other a two-seat sports car, and their naturally aspirated engines have different displacements and outputs.
What the 2025 CX-30 and Miata have in common
The clearest shared detail is paint. In its August 12, 2024 U.S. announcement, Mazda North American Operations said Aero Gray Metallic, “as seen on MX-5 Miata sports car,” was now available on the 2025 CX-30. That is a shared color reference, not evidence that the vehicles share other equipment.
The 2025 CX-30’s other noted model-year update is Alexa Built-in. Mazda’s release describes it as a CX-30 feature; it does not establish Alexa Built-in as a Miata feature.
Do the CX-30 and Miata share an engine?
No. Mazda lists different naturally aspirated engine displacements and ratings for the 2025 U.S. models.

| 2025 model and engine | Displacement | Horsepower | Torque |
|---|---|---|---|
| CX-30 2.5, naturally aspirated | 2,488.5 cc | 191 hp | 186 lb-ft |
| MX-5 Miata 2.0, naturally aspirated | 1,997.6 cc | 181 hp | 151 lb-ft |
Displacement figures come from Mazda’s 2025 CX-30 owner’s manual and 2025 MX-5 owner’s manual; output ratings are from Mazda’s respective U.S. model-year announcements for the CX-30 and MX-5.
The CX-30 announcement also lists a 2.5 Turbo version rated up to 250 hp and 320 lb-ft when using premium 93-octane fuel. That is a turbocharged CX-30 option, not the naturally aspirated engine in the comparison above, and Mazda’s cited MX-5 announcement does not identify it as an engine shared with the Miata.

They serve different purposes—and use different drivetrains
The CX-30 is a compact SUV with standard i-Activ all-wheel drive. The MX-5 Miata is a two-seat sports car. Their body styles and seating make them fundamentally different kinds of cars, regardless of the shared paint option.
Transmission choice also differs within the 2025 MX-5 range: Sport and Club are manual-only, while Grand Touring is offered with a manual or automatic transmission, according to Mazda’s U.S. MX-5 announcement. The cited CX-30 announcement establishes standard AWD, but does not provide a comparable transmission breakdown here.

Mazda announced a U.S. 35th Anniversary MX-5 with an Artisan Red exterior and tan Nappa leather interior. That special-edition color combination is separate from the Aero Gray connection: Mazda specifically described Aero Gray as a color seen on the Miata and newly available on the CX-30.
Mazda’s August 2024 announcement put the 2025 CX-30’s starting MSRP at $25,195. That is the historical announced U.S. price, not a current dealer quote; actual availability, equipment, colors and pricing can vary by market and over time.
