What makes the IS 500 different from other Lexus IS models?
Lexus positions the IS 500 F SPORT Performance as the IS family’s halo model. In its October 4, 2024 announcement, the automaker said, “As the halo model in the IS family, the IS 500 exemplifies the F SPORT Performance brand.” That is Lexus’s description of the car’s place in its own lineup, not an independent comparison with rival sedans.
The defining distinction is its powertrain: a naturally aspirated V8 rather than a smaller engine. Lexus specifies 472 hp and 395 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic and rear-wheel drive. Lexus’s 2025 IS announcement provides those specifications.
What changed for the 2025 model year?
Lexus says power-folding mirrors are standard on the 2025 IS 500 F SPORT. The update is a convenience feature; the announcement does not describe a change to the V8’s output or the transmission.

How do the 2025 IS 500 special editions differ?
Lexus announced two distinct limited offerings: a Special Appearance Package for IS 500 F SPORT Premium grades, and the IS 500 Ultimate Edition. Their production limits, wheel and brake hardware, and finish details are not interchangeable.

Special Appearance Package
The Special Appearance Package was announced for IS 500 F SPORT Premium grades. Its Flare Yellow paint and yellow cabin stitching coordinate with black NuLuxe upholstery, suede inserts, matching mats and key gloves. Lexus also lists 19-inch BBS wheels and a SmartAccess Card Key. Lexus announced the Ultimate Edition as a 500-unit North American offering. It retains the stated 472-hp, 395-lb-ft V8 and automatic transmission, while adding six-piston Brembo front calipers, 380-mm front discs and 19-inch forged BBS wheels.
