It offers a 147-hp standard engine, an available 190-hp turbo, and technology and comfort features that vary by trim. Edmunds’ comparison with the Honda Civic praised the K4’s value and available tech, but found weaknesses in power delivery, ride comfort and cabin noise. This review draws on that published comparison, not a firsthand test drive.
What is the 2025 Kia K4?
The K4 is Kia’s successor to the Forte in the U.S. compact-sedan lineup. Kia announced it as a multi-trim sedan with two engine choices: a naturally aspirated four-cylinder for the core models and a turbocharged engine for the GT-Line Turbo. The car’s pitch is straightforward: accessible pricing, a roomy cabin and technology features that are not always standard on competing trims.
Kia’s 2024 launch announcement set the initial prices and described the model’s equipment, but those figures are launch MSRPs—not current dealer quotes or out-the-door prices. Equipment and availability can change by trim, so use the specific car’s window sticker when comparing listings.
2025 Kia K4 trims and launch prices
| Trim | U.S. launch MSRP | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| LX | $21,990 | Launch price announced by Kia America on August 13, 2024; excludes $1,195 destination. |
| LXS | $22,990 | Launch price announced by Kia America on August 13, 2024; excludes $1,195 destination. |
| EX | $23,990 | Launch price announced by Kia America on August 13, 2024; excludes $1,195 destination. |
| GT-Line | not stated in the cited Kia launch pricing | Kia said GT-Line versions would follow the core models later; verify current pricing and equipment with a retailer. |
| GT-Line Turbo | not stated in the cited Kia launch pricing | Kia said the turbo version would follow the core models later; verify current pricing and equipment with a retailer. |
Kia said the core models were expected at U.S. retailers from September 2024, with GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo following later. The announced starting MSRPs exclude a $1,195 destination charge. They do not establish today’s inventory, discounts, incentives or transaction prices.

Engines and transmission
| Powertrain | Published output | Transmission |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0-liter four-cylinder | 147 hp | Continuously variable transmission, as reported by The Associated Press in 2024. |
| Turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder | 190 hp | Eight-speed automatic, as reported by The Associated Press in 2024. |
The horsepower figures are Kia’s published specifications, not independent test measurements. Kia described the turbo as the more engaging choice and said GT-Line versions with either engine use a multi-link rear suspension. Those are manufacturer claims; they do not by themselves establish how a particular K4 will feel on your roads.
How does the Kia K4 drive?
Edmunds’ published Civic comparison, republished by AP in April 2025, characterized the K4’s driving experience as “inoffensive.” That is an editorial judgment from the comparison, not a firsthand assessment for this article.

Standard engine
Edmunds said most K4s’ standard four-cylinder feels underpowered and is less efficient than the most affordable Civic models. That makes the standard engine worth testing on the roads you actually use, especially if you regularly merge onto fast highways or carry passengers and cargo.
Turbo engine
The 190-hp turbo adds power, but Edmunds reported that its delivery can feel uneven and unpredictable. More horsepower does not guarantee smoother response, so drive the turbo version rather than assuming it will suit you better.

- SECURE FIT & DRIVING COMFORT: Engineered with a specialized vehicle-specific texture on the bottom backing to lock the liners firmly in place. These floor carpets will not shift, slide, curl, or buckle underfoot, ensuring unhindered access to the gas and brake pedals for a steady, worry-free drive during daily commuting or family trips.
- EASY TO CLEAN & FAMILY FRIENDLY: Built for busy lifestyles, outdoor camping, and pet owners. The heavy-duty TPE surface also provides shock and sound absorbent benefits inside your vehicle cabin. When dirty, simply remove the mats from your vehicle, rinse with a water hose, or wipe down with a damp cloth, and they will look as good as new within a few minutes.
Ride and cabin noise
Edmunds found the K4’s ride can feel choppy and its cabin noisier than the Civic’s. A short, smooth dealership loop may not reveal either trait. Include rough pavement, highway speeds and familiar roads in your evaluation.
Does the K4 beat the Honda Civic?
There is no single winner for every buyer. In Edmunds’ April 2025 comparison, the K4’s strongest case was value and available technology; the Civic had advantages in the driving trade-offs Edmunds highlighted. The right comparison depends on the exact trims, powertrains and body styles you can buy.

| What to compare | Kia K4 evidence | Honda Civic consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Price and value | Edmunds identified value as a K4 strength. Kia’s published launch MSRPs for LX, LXS and EX were $21,990, $22,990 and $23,990, excluding destination. | Compare current quotes for similarly equipped trims; the launch prices are not today’s transaction prices. |
| Power and efficiency | Edmunds found the standard engine underpowered and less efficient than the most affordable Civic models; it described turbo power delivery as potentially uneven. | The Civic is available as a hybrid, which changes the comparison for buyers prioritizing efficiency. |
| Ride and noise | Edmunds reported a potentially choppy ride and more road noise than in the Civic. | Drive both on the same kinds of roads to judge comfort and noise directly. |
| Cabin and features | Edmunds described the cabin as roomy and stylish, with certain technology and comfort amenities available depending on trim. | Compare the actual equipment on the two window stickers rather than relying on model-wide feature lists. |
| Body style and utility | The K4 discussed here is a sedan. | The Civic is also offered as a hatchback, which may better suit buyers who need that body style. |
| Warranty | Kia launch material states a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty; consult the applicable booklet or retailer for terms. | Compare the applicable warranty documents for the specific vehicles and market. |
Cabin, comfort and technology
Edmunds described the K4 cabin as roomy and stylish. Depending on trim, its cited amenities and technology include ambient lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, rear HVAC vents, USB charging ports, digital-key capability, a panoramic display with dual 12.3-inch screens, blind-spot cameras or monitoring, and intersection collision avoidance. Availability varies by trim; check the window sticker for the specific car rather than assuming these features are standard across the range.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the 2025 Kia K4 safe?
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates the 2025 K4 sedan. Its page reports Good results for the driver- and passenger-side small-overlap front evaluations and an overall Good result in the updated side test, which also includes individual Acceptable subratings. IIHS lists blind-spot detection, lane departure warning and rear automatic braking as standard; lane departure prevention is optional. These results and equipment ratings should not be compressed into a claim that every test subcategory is Good or every K4 has the same features.

Check the build date and body style
IIHS says Hyundai/Kia modified rear seat belts on K4s built after January 2025 to improve rear-occupant protection in moderate-overlap front crashes. Check the vehicle’s certification label, typically on the driver’s door or adjacent B-pillar, to identify its build date, then consult the IIHS K4 rating page. IIHS says the sedan ratings apply to 2025–26 models; ratings and test coverage differ by body style and test category, so verify the exact vehicle. A safety rating also does not substitute for checking current recalls or the equipment on an individual car.
Warranty and ownership terms
Kia’s launch material states that the K4 is backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. “Limited” matters: the launch statement does not establish exclusions, ownership-transfer conditions or every market-specific term. Read the warranty booklet applicable to the vehicle or confirm its coverage with a Kia retailer before purchase.
Quick Recap
What to check on a K4 test drive
- Match the trim and price. Compare the window sticker and current written quote for the exact car, including destination, installed options and any dealer charges. Treat the 2024 launch MSRPs as historical starting figures, not a present-day offer.
- Drive the powertrain you intend to buy. If practical, test both the 2.0-liter and turbo versions. Pay attention to acceleration from a stop, merging response and how smoothly power arrives.
- Use roads that reveal comfort trade-offs. Drive over broken pavement and at highway speed. Listen for road and wind noise, and assess whether the ride suits your daily routes.
- Check passenger and technology needs. Sit in both rows, try the specific car’s screens and driver-assistance features, and confirm which comfort amenities are actually fitted.
- Verify safety details. Check the build-date label and consult IIHS for the exact body style and applicable tests; separately check for current recall information before buying.
- Read the warranty terms. Confirm which limited powertrain coverage applies to the vehicle and how its conditions affect your ownership.
