The 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Hatchback pairs a 48-mpg EPA rating with responsive acceleration and the flexibility of a hatch. For U.S. shoppers, the Sport Hybrid is the lower-cost way into the powertrain; the Sport Touring Hybrid costs $3,000 more at MSRP for upgraded cabin technology and comfort equipment, not better published fuel economy. One reviewer’s week with a Sport Hybrid returned 48.1 mpg, but that result is not a guarantee for other drivers.
What’s different about the 2025 Civic Hybrid Hatchback?
For the U.S. 2025 model year, Honda offered the Civic Hatchback as Sport, Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. The two hybrid trims use Honda’s two-motor hybrid-electric system paired with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine. Honda publishes system output of 200 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque, and described the hybrid as the most powerful non-Type R Civic at launch. Those are manufacturer specifications and positioning, not independent measurements. Honda’s September 2024 launch announcement gives the powertrain details.
The hatchback body adds a useful cargo opening and flexibility for bulky items. In Tom’s Guide, reviewer John Velasco said the tested car felt responsive and accelerated without seeming strained when joining cruising traffic. That is a reviewer’s impression, not a controlled comparison against the other Civic trims.
How much does the 2025 Civic Hybrid Hatchback get in real-world driving?
Both U.S. hybrid hatchback trims are EPA-rated at 50 mpg city, 45 mpg highway and 48 mpg combined. Honda lists a 10.6-gallon tank and regular unleaded fuel. EPA figures are standardized estimates for comparing vehicles; actual mileage varies with driving, maintenance, conditions and battery age or condition. In a one-week test of a 2025 Sport Hatchback Hybrid, Tom’s Guide’s John Velasco reported an average of 48.1 mpg over 248.5 miles. That is a useful real-world reference point close to the combined EPA estimate, but it represents one reviewer’s test, not a prediction for every commute, climate or driver. Velasco previously reported 36.2 mpg over 133 miles in a different Civic Hybrid trim; he attributed the difference partly to warmer weather and the hatchback trim. Those separate tests were not a controlled comparison. Tom’s Guide’s account of the week-long test describes its conditions and observations.
Which hybrid trim should you test-drive?
Honda’s final published U.S. prices for the 2025 model year, announced January 3, 2025, put the Sport Hybrid at $30,150 MSRP and the Sport Touring Hybrid at $33,150 MSRP. With the $1,150 destination charge, the listed totals were $31,300 and $34,300, respectively. These figures exclude tax, license, registration, options and premium colors; they are model-year MSRP, not current dealer asking prices or transaction prices. Honda’s January 2025 pricing and EPA announcement superseded the earlier launch announcement’s MSRP figures.

| Trim | 2025 MSRP | MSRP with destination | EPA city / highway / combined | Notable equipment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sport Hybrid | $30,150 | $31,300 | 50 / 45 / 48 mpg | Moonroof, heated front seats, dual-zone climate controls, 7-inch display and wired phone integration |
| Sport Touring Hybrid | $33,150 | $34,300 | 50 / 45 / 48 mpg | Leather seating, 12-speaker Bose audio, 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charger, Google built-in and Individual drive mode |
The $3,000 MSRP difference buys equipment rather than a better published fuel-economy rating. Choose the Sport Hybrid if the hybrid powertrain and core comfort features matter most and wired phone integration is acceptable. Consider the Sport Touring Hybrid if its larger screen, wireless integration, upgraded audio and leather seating are worth the extra cost to you. Honda’s 2025 Civic Hatchback feature guide lists the equipment and drive modes.
How does it feel from behind the wheel?
Velasco described the Sport Hatchback Hybrid as fun and responsive, with enough acceleration to merge into faster traffic without feeling overworked. Honda says its Linear Shift Control is designed to simulate a conventional drivetrain’s speed-linked rev feel under acceleration, and that hybrid models receive retuned spring and damper settings. Those are Honda’s descriptions of its engineering, not independent test findings.

- Honda Civic Custom in a Smooth Teal Finish!
- Number 8/10 in the Drag Racers Set! Number 159/250 in the Overall Series!
- 1:64 Scale Diecast Toy Car
Honda lists ECON, Normal and Sport drive modes on the Sport Hybrid; the Sport Touring Hybrid also gets Individual mode. Honda says every trim includes Honda Sensing driver-assistance technology. A buyer comparing specific assistance functions should check the official feature guide for equipment by trim rather than assuming every function is identical.
What are the main compromises?
Velasco’s review also points to details worth checking in person. He criticized the manual seat adjustments, a display interface that felt dated to him, soft image quality from the backup camera and tight rear legroom for adults on longer drives. These are his observations, and comfort or interface preferences are subjective.
- Adjust the driver’s seat yourself and check whether the available range and manual controls suit you.
- Try the touchscreen and phone connection you expect to use most; the Sport Hybrid uses wired integration, while the Sport Touring Hybrid offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Have the adults who will regularly ride in back sit there, ideally in the front seats’ usual positions.
- View the backup-camera image in the conditions where you expect to rely on it.
- Load or imagine your regular cargo to decide whether the hatch’s opening and flexibility fit your needs.
Who is the Civic Hybrid Hatchback for?
The 2025 Civic Hybrid Hatchback is a strong candidate for shoppers who want a compact hatch with a high EPA fuel-economy estimate and a powertrain that one independent reviewer found engaging. The Sport Hybrid makes the most sense when the priority is the hybrid and its efficiency; the Sport Touring Hybrid is the equipment-rich option for buyers who value its added cabin technology. The deciding test-drive questions are whether the seat, interface and rear seating work for your household, and whether the Touring’s added features justify its price premium.
