Its headline numbers need context: the Extended Range model’s 390-mile figure is EPA-estimated, while the Max Range model’s 460-mile figure is GM-estimated. The MidGate is the standout utility feature; the trade-offs are premium pricing, substantial weight and the limits of charging or towing in real use.
How far can the 2025 GMC Sierra EV go on a charge?
It depends on the battery version and whose estimate you are reading. General Motors’ October 2024 announcement gives the Extended Range Sierra EV an EPA-estimated 390 miles on a full charge. The Max Range version is rated at 460 miles, but that is a GM estimate—not an EPA figure—based on development testing and/or analytical projection consistent with SAE J1634 revision 2017 MCT. Those numbers are not directly equivalent test results.
| Configuration | Published range | Estimate basis |
|---|---|---|
| Extended Range | 390 miles | EPA-estimated by GM |
| Max Range | 460 miles | GM-estimated in its October 2024 announcement; not identified there as an EPA estimate |
Neither figure guarantees a particular trip distance. GM says actual range may vary with ambient temperature, terrain, battery age and condition, loading, and how the truck is used and maintained. No independent instrumented range result is established in the cited sources, so treat the figures as estimates rather than a road-test outcome. See GM’s 2025 Sierra EV Denali announcement for its range qualifications.
How much power does the Sierra EV Denali make?
Output varies by configuration and mode. GM quotes 760 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque for the Max Range Denali when it is in Max Power mode. Edmunds reports 645 horsepower and 784 lb-ft for the Extended Range model. The larger headline horsepower figure therefore should not be read as the output of every Sierra EV Denali in every driving mode.

Edmunds characterizes the truck as a high-tech, luxury-oriented pickup, while Cars.com praises its power and plush Denali cabin. Those are reviewers’ assessments, not instrumented performance findings presented here. GMC also lists CrabWalk, which enables low-speed diagonal movement, and Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, which can adjust ride height; Edmunds notes four-wheel steering and selectable drive modes.
How much can the Sierra EV tow?
GM lists up to 10,500 pounds of maximum towing for the Extended Range model. That is a maximum rating, not a promise that every truck can tow that much: GM says passengers, cargo, options, and accessories can reduce the allowable trailer weight. It also cautions buyers to review the trailering section of the Owner’s Manual before towing.

A maximum tow rating does not establish how far the truck can travel while towing. Trailer weight and use affect energy consumption, and the sources cited here do not provide a real-world towing-range result. Check the specific vehicle’s rating and payload information, then plan charging around the trailer and route rather than applying the solo range estimate.
How fast does the GMC Sierra EV charge?
GMC describes an 800-volt architecture and public DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. Its claim of adding up to 100 miles in approximately 10 minutes is conditional, not a fixed charging time. GM says charging time varies with the battery’s starting state of charge and condition, charger output, vehicle settings, and outside temperature.

For home charging, GMC points to Level 2 options through GM Energy. The cited product information does not identify a specific third-party charger or establish installation requirements for a particular home, so buyers should confirm equipment compatibility and electrical work with the relevant providers.
Does the Sierra EV have a MidGate?
Yes. GMC’s MultiPro MidGate lets the short bed carry longer items by folding the rear seats and removing the rear glass. GMC says the bed can extend to 10 feet 10 inches with the load stop in place. Edmunds describes a standard bed length of 5 feet 11 inches and 9 feet 1 inch with the MidGate open; with the tailgate down and load stop, it approaches 11 feet. The measurements describe different configurations, so check the setup needed for a particular load.

GMC lists a 16.8-inch diagonal center touchscreen, a panoramic fixed glass roof, a Bose seven-speaker audio system, and a 14-inch head-up display. Super Cruise is available. The truck’s size and equipment also support utility beyond cargo hauling: with available Power Station Pro and the available GM Accessories PowerBar+, GMC says the truck can provide up to 10.2 kW of off-board power. GMC also describes home backup power for up to 21 days when properly equipped and with reduced daily energy use; that claim depends on the required equipment and conditions.

These features help explain the Denali’s luxury-truck pitch, but they do not erase the compromises. Cars.com calls out a weight of nearly 9,000 pounds and extensive gloss-black plastic among its drawbacks. Edmunds likewise frames the truck as expensive while arguing that its range and MidGate utility help make a case for it as a luxury electric pickup. Those are editorial judgments, not a guarantee that the price or materials will feel worthwhile to every buyer.
Is the GMC Sierra EV worth the price?
GM’s October 14, 2024 launch announcement listed an MSRP of $91,995 for Extended Range and $100,495 for Max Range, each including a $2,095 destination freight charge. These are announced launch prices, not a current transaction quote; taxes, title, license, dealer fees, optional equipment, and dealer-set pricing are separate. Confirm current pricing and availability with a dealer.
The premium case is strongest for a buyer who values the Denali’s technology and cabin equipment, wants the longer stated range of the Max Range version, or can make regular use of the MidGate and eTrunk. The case is weaker if the purchase hinges on treating the 460-mile GM estimate as guaranteed, expecting maximum towing to preserve unladen range, or assuming luxury pricing means every material detail will satisfy. Edmunds names the Chevrolet Silverado EV, Hummer EV, Rivian R1T, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Tesla Cybertruck among the relevant alternatives. Cars.com describes the Sierra EV and Silverado EV as mechanically and functionally similar in equivalent trims, with the choice largely coming down to styling and interior and technology differences.
