The refreshed 2025 Genesis G80 makes a persuasive case through its redesigned cabin, generous equipment and comfort-focused drive—not by proving it is better than every luxury-sedan rival. The 27-inch OLED display is the headline change, while the choice of a well-equipped 2.5T or a more powerful 3.5T V6 gives buyers two distinct ways into the U.S. lineup. The trade-off is price: launch MSRP ranged from $57,100 to $77,000 before freight, with the higher trims carrying a substantial premium.
What changed for 2025?
This is a refresh, not a ground-up redesign. The defining update is a single 27-inch OLED panel that integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment display. Genesis also revised the center stack and steering wheel. The engines and all-wheel-drive configuration carry over from the preceding model year, according to MotorTrend’s review of the U.S. car.
Genesis called the infotainment system the most significant change in its September 2024 overview. That is the manufacturer’s characterization; the display’s size and integration are more concrete reasons the cabin feels newly updated.
U.S. engines and launch prices
The U.S. gasoline G80 range has two powertrains. Genesis lists the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder at 300 hp and 311 lb-ft. The 3.5T is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6; MotorTrend and Capital One report it at 375 hp and 391 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard AWD. These are U.S.-market figures, not outputs from the Korean-market model.

How does the G80 drive?
Comfort is the clearest strength
MotorTrend drove the fully equipped 3.5T Sport Prestige and found its slightly stiffer suspension tune helped the car settle over broken pavement. The publication also noted vague on-center steering feel. Its observations apply to that tested version, not necessarily every G80 trim.
Capital One reviewer Perry Stern, writing after driving the updated gasoline G80 in Lexington, Kentucky, describes the V6 as strong, the ride as smooth and the cabin as quiet. Together, these impressions point to a large luxury sedan whose priorities are refinement and ease rather than sharp, communicative handling.

Sport+ is not an automatic reason to buy the V6
Autoblog takes a more critical view of the performance-oriented setup: its reviewer found Sport+ throttle response sharp and transmission shifts insufficiently quick when pushed, and questioned whether the performance add-ons fit the G80’s comfort-oriented character. That is a subjective first-drive assessment, not a measured conclusion for every road or driving condition. Buyers drawn primarily to relaxed, quiet travel may find the comfort brief more relevant than the sport branding.
Rear-wheel steering helps with the sedan’s size
MotorTrend found the four-wheel steering on the 3.5T Sport Prestige useful in making the large sedan feel more manageable around town. It is part of that upper trim’s specification, so it should not be assumed on lower-priced versions.

What do the display and driver aids add?
The 27-inch OLED panel brings the instrument cluster and infotainment together in one wide display, making it the most visible cabin change. MotorTrend found the new screen offered limited new functionality beyond that update, a useful distinction: a more imposing display does not by itself guarantee a major change in what the infotainment system can do.
Capital One describes Highway Driving Assist 2 as adaptive cruise control combined with lane centering. It is not a hands-free driving system. Genesis’s trim announcement also lists driver-assistance equipment, with features and parking aids varying by trim.

Is the 2025 G80 a convincing luxury-sedan alternative?
Capital One names the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class as competitors. The G80’s case is clearest when judged on its own terms: a newly redesigned cabin, a substantial equipment list and a quiet, comfort-oriented driving character. The launch-price spread also means that “the G80” is not one uniform value proposition: a $57,100 2.5T AWD and a $77,000 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD are separated by both powertrain and considerable equipment.
A definitive value ranking would require comparing equivalent trims and fee-adjusted prices, as well as engine character, ride and handling, cabin usability, standard versus optional equipment, and ownership terms. The available first-drive accounts do not provide a same-day instrumented comparison with the rivals or establish their warranty terms, so they cannot support a categorical claim that Genesis has surpassed the segment.
Fuel economy: distinguish EPA ratings from one drive
Capital One reports EPA fuel economy of 16 mpg city, 24 highway and 19 combined for the 3.5T AWD. Stern says his drive averaged just over 21 mpg. That is his reported result from that drive, not a reproducible owner expectation or a substitute for the EPA rating.
Verdict
The 2025 Genesis G80 is a serious luxury-sedan contender because its cabin refresh, equipment and ride comfort reinforce one another. The 2.5T AWD launch model offered the lower entry point, while the V6 Sport Prestige combined greater power with upper-range features such as rear-wheel steering and a head-up display. But the first-drive evidence supports a strong, comfort-led alternative—not a blanket victory over the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series or Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Whether the more expensive versions make sense depends on how much value a buyer places on their added performance and equipment.
