The U.S.-market 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid pairs a 200-hp, two-motor hybrid system with EPA-estimated fuel economy of up to 49 mpg combined in the sedan. The hatchback is rated at 48 mpg combined, so the headline 49-mpg figure applies to the sedan, not every Civic Hybrid. With strong published acceleration and useful trim upgrades, the Civic Hybrid is a compelling compact, though the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid has the edge on EPA fuel economy in Honda’s comparison.
How much horsepower does the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid have?
Honda rates the 2025 Civic Hybrid’s two-motor hybrid-electric system at 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. Those are manufacturer figures for U.S.-market models. The system’s output gives the Civic Hybrid a stronger performance focus than its fuel-economy numbers alone suggest.
Does the 2025 Civic Hybrid really get 49 mpg?
Yes, the sedan’s EPA estimates are 50 mpg city, 47 mpg highway and 49 mpg combined. The hatchback is rated at 50 city, 45 highway and 48 combined. These are EPA estimates, not a guarantee of what an individual driver will achieve; results vary with conditions and driving habits.
| 2025 Civic Hybrid body style | EPA city | EPA highway | EPA combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan | 50 mpg | 47 mpg | 49 mpg |
| Hatchback | 50 mpg | 45 mpg | 48 mpg |
Honda’s sedan ratings are listed in its 2025 Civic sedan information; the hatchback figures come from Honda’s 2025 Civic Hybrid announcement.

What is the difference between the Civic Hybrid sedan and hatchback?
The principal distinction established by Honda’s ratings is one mpg in combined EPA fuel economy: 49 for the sedan and 48 for the hatchback. Both versions use the 200-hp hybrid system. The hatchback’s body style offers a liftgate and cargo-area access, while the sedan has a conventional trunk; buyers should compare the exact body style and trim they intend to purchase because equipment can vary.
What do the Sport Hybrid trims include?
The Sport Hybrid adds a moonroof, heated front seats and dual-zone climate control. The Sport Touring Hybrid is the higher-equipped option, adding leather seating, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging and Google built-in. Honda’s trim and equipment details are specific to body style, so check the relevant model-year specification before assuming every feature is offered in both sedan and hatchback form.

Honda says Honda Sensing driver-assistance technology is standard across Civic trims. Its 2025 materials describe improved motorcycle and bicycle visibility for collision mitigation braking and smoother-feeling adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping functions. These are Honda’s descriptions of the system; actual operation depends on road, weather and traffic conditions.
How does the Civic Hybrid compare with the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid?
The Civic Hybrid’s strengths are power and acceleration; the Elantra Hybrid’s is its higher EPA fuel-economy range in Honda’s own comparison. Honda lists Elantra Hybrid trims at 50 to 54 mpg combined, compared with 49 mpg for the Civic sedan. That comparison is manufacturer-provided, and the specific rating depends on the Elantra trim.

In an Edmunds comparison reported by the Associated Press, the Civic Hybrid sedan reached 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, while the Elantra Hybrid’s test result was 9 seconds. These are publication test results, not factory performance guarantees. Edmunds’ assessment favored the Elantra’s driver-assistance execution, a reviewer judgment rather than a measured specification. Honda’s comparison can be consulted at Honda’s Civic and Elantra comparison; AP’s reporting on the test is at AP News.
For pricing, Honda’s January 2025 release lists sedan Sport Hybrid MSRP at $28,950 and Sport Touring Hybrid at $31,950, before a $1,150 destination charge. These are historical manufacturer MSRPs, not present-day dealer quotes; transaction prices and availability can vary. Honda’s original 2024 launch announcement gave lower launch MSRPs of $28,750 and $31,750, respectively, with $1,095 destination. The later figures are the relevant published revision, not a current offer.

What is the verdict on the 2025 Civic Hybrid?
The Civic Hybrid is a strong choice for a compact-car buyer who wants notably more acceleration than the economy-first reputation of a hybrid might imply, while still targeting excellent fuel economy. Choose the sedan if the EPA’s 49-mpg combined estimate is the priority; choose the hatchback for its cargo access and accept its 48-mpg combined estimate. The Elantra Hybrid is worth comparing if maximizing the official combined-mpg figure matters more than the Civic’s quicker published test result.
