What’s new on the 2025 Ford Super Duty?
Ford’s model-year changes focus on trim equipment, appearance, power options and trailer technology. The changes are not all upgrades in every sense: for example, Lariat gains some standard equipment but loses its ambient rear lighting.
- New colors: Avalanche Gray and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat join the exterior palette.
- Lariat: ActiveX seating replaces leather-trimmed seating. A fixed rear window with defrost and privacy glass becomes standard, while ambient rear lighting is removed.
- Platinum: Black Onyx interior with Platinum Blue accents is listed as a new option.
- Platinum Plus: Ford introduces this new package. Its announced ownership experience includes a 20% discount on Ford accessories for the first 90 days.
- Pro Power Onboard: The 2.0-kW system becomes optional on King Ranch and Platinum.
- Upfitter equipment: Upfitter switches become optional across models.
- Trailer equipment: Auxiliary cameras, individual trailer tire-pressure monitoring and trailer-coverage BLIS become available as dealer-installed options.
These are Ford’s announced model-year changes; actual equipment and availability should be confirmed for the specific truck. Ford described the update in its 2025 Super Duty model-year update and September 2024 order-bank announcement.
2025 Super Duty engine options and torque
Ford lists four engine choices, with gasoline and diesel options spanning a wide range of power and torque. The ratings below are Ford’s published SAE specifications, not independent test results.

The distinction between the two diesel versions matters: the standard-output 6.7-liter is rated at 1,050 lb-ft, while the high-output version reaches 1,200 lb-ft. Ford’s 2025 Super Duty technical specifications provide the engine ratings. Standard equipment and availability can vary by model and configuration, so verify the exact truck before ordering.
How to interpret the towing and payload claims
Ford advertises up to 40,000 pounds of towing and 8,000 pounds of payload for the 2025 Super Duty pickup. These are maximum available figures, not ratings that apply to every truck. A truck’s applicable rating depends on its engine, trim, cab and chassis configuration, towing method and trailer equipment. Consult Ford’s 2025 model information and the applicable towing data for the exact configuration rather than using the headline maximum to assess a particular job.

When comparing two Super Duty builds, match the configuration and equipment first. A different engine or cab can change the relevant capability, and trailer technology such as individual trailer TPMS is an equipment choice—not a substitute for checking the truck-and-trailer ratings.

Choosing between gasoline and diesel
The 6.8-liter and 7.3-liter gasoline V8s provide 445 and 485 lb-ft respectively. The standard-output diesel is rated at 1,050 lb-ft, and the high-output diesel at 1,200 lb-ft. Those published figures clarify the torque hierarchy, but they do not establish fuel economy, real-world performance or the best engine for a particular workload.

Comparing trim equipment
Lariat’s ActiveX seating and newly standard rear-window features are concrete equipment changes; they do not establish a broader improvement in cabin quality. King Ranch and Platinum gain the option of 2.0-kW Pro Power Onboard, while Platinum’s listed interior change is Black Onyx with Platinum Blue accents. Compare the actual build sheet for comfort and convenience equipment rather than assuming a trim name guarantees identical equipment across configurations.
Considering trailer technology
Ford lists auxiliary cameras, individual trailer tire-pressure monitoring and trailer-coverage BLIS as dealer-installed options. The tire-pressure system is particularly relevant to buyers who want to monitor trailer tires, but confirm compatibility and fitment for both the truck and trailer before purchase.
