For the first time, the hybrid is available with all-wheel drive (AWD), trading a little published fuel economy for added traction. The right version depends on whether you prioritize efficiency, towing, trail use or street-oriented performance.
2025 Ford Maverick price: what the $26,295 figure includes
Ford listed a starting MSRP of $26,295 for the 2025 Maverick in its July 2024 U.S. announcement. That launch-era base price excludes taxes, title, license fees, and destination and delivery charges. It is not a current dealer quote or a fully equipped price; options, trim, dealer pricing, incentives, inventory and purchase date affect what a buyer may pay. Ford’s 2025 announcement is the source for the stated MSRP.
2025 Ford Maverick specs: powertrains and fuel economy
The lineup offers a 2.5-liter full hybrid with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), or a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged gasoline engine with an automatic transmission. The hybrid is offered with front-wheel drive (FWD) or, new for 2025, AWD in the XL, XLT and Lariat ranges. EcoBoost models are AWD; Lobo uses a seven-speed automatic, while the other listed EcoBoost models use an eight-speed automatic.
| 2025 variant | Drivetrain | Published city/highway/combined fuel economy | Maximum towing | Maximum payload |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hybrid | FWD | 42/35/38 mpg | Up to 4,000 lb with 4K Tow Package | 1,500 lb |
| Hybrid | AWD | 40/34/37 mpg | Up to 4,000 lb with 4K Tow Package | 1,400 lb |
| EcoBoost, base configuration | AWD | 22/30/25 mpg | Up to 4,000 lb with 4K Tow Package | 1,500 lb |
| Tremor EcoBoost | AWD | 21/27/23 mpg | 2,000 lb | 1,140 lb |
| Lobo EcoBoost | AWD | 21/30/24 mpg | 2,000 lb | 1,045 lb |
Fuel-economy and capability figures are Ford’s published ratings for the listed variants, not guarantees of an individual owner’s results. The specifications are in Ford’s 2025 Maverick technical sheet. The sheet identifies hybrid AWD and base EcoBoost AWD as eligible for the 4K Tow Package; it does not give that higher rating to Tremor or Lobo.

How much can a 2025 Ford Maverick tow?
The standard maximum is 2,000 pounds. Eligible hybrid AWD and base EcoBoost AWD configurations can be rated to tow up to 4,000 pounds when fitted with the 4K Tow Package. That is not a universal rating for every Maverick: Tremor and Lobo are listed at 2,000 pounds. Confirm the specific truck’s equipment and limits, and stay within the vehicle and trailer requirements for the load you plan to pull.
Payload: check the individual truck, not just the model range
Published maximum payload ranges from 1,045 pounds for Lobo to 1,500 pounds for hybrid FWD and base EcoBoost AWD. Payload must account for occupants, fuel, cargo and applicable trailer tongue load. Before loading, use the payload information on the particular truck’s door-jamb label; a model-level maximum does not establish what a specific vehicle can carry.

What changed for 2025, and what the new equipment does
The most consequential powertrain change is hybrid AWD availability. Ford also lists a 13.2-inch touchscreen in place of the previous 8-inch screen, SYNC 4, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 8-inch instrument display. A 360-degree camera and trailer-assistance features are available on specified builds.
Ford described Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist as available in early 2025, with both standard on Lariat and Tremor. Because equipment can depend on trim and build, check the actual vehicle’s specification rather than assuming a feature is included across the range. The FLEXBED system and multi-position tailgate support organizing and carrying bed cargo; Ford says a bed extender is available through Ford Accessories for added cargo security. Verify year, bed and tailgate fitment before buying an accessory.

Hybrid AWD or FWD: which makes more sense?
Choose based on your driving conditions and priorities, not the drivetrain badge alone. The hybrid FWD’s published combined rating is 38 mpg, compared with 37 mpg for hybrid AWD. AWD may be the more relevant trade-off for buyers who want added traction, but the published figures do not establish real-world savings or performance in any particular climate or surface.
- Hybrid FWD: the highest published combined fuel economy in the listed range, with a 1,500-pound maximum payload and an available 4K Tow Package.
- Hybrid AWD: the newly available 2025 hybrid configuration, with a 37-mpg combined rating, 1,400-pound maximum payload and eligibility for the 4K Tow Package.
- EcoBoost AWD: the turbo gasoline option, with variant-specific economy and the 4K Tow Package available on the base configuration.
- Tremor: the trail-focused choice; its listed tow rating is 2,000 pounds, and its payload maximum is lower than the hybrid and base EcoBoost figures.
- Lobo: the street-performance variant, with a distinct seven-speed automatic and a 2,000-pound tow rating.
Tremor or Lobo: trail focus versus street performance
Tremor and Lobo occupy different roles rather than serving as interchangeable upgrades. Tremor is the off-road-oriented variant; Lobo is the street-performance version. Both are listed with a 2,000-pound maximum tow rating, but their published fuel economy and payload differ. A buyer who needs the 4,000-pound rating should look instead at an eligible configuration with the 4K Tow Package.

What independent driving coverage says about ride and performance
An Associated Press article republishing an Edmunds comparison describes the Maverick as a more conventional pickup than the Hyundai Santa Cruz, with useful hybrid efficiency and hauling utility, but a bouncy ride and sparse interior. It characterizes the Santa Cruz as more comfortable and SUV-like; the comparison’s conclusion is that the better fit depends on intended use, not that one is universally superior. The AP/Edmunds comparison, dated June 4, 2025, reports 0–60 mph in 6.6 seconds for a 250-horsepower turbo Maverick. It also reports 23–25 mpg combined EPA estimates for the turbo Maverick and says Edmunds confirmed those figures in its real-world testing. These are observations about the comparison’s test vehicles, not performance promises for every 2025 trim.
How to choose a 2025 Maverick for your use
- Start with the job. Decide whether fuel economy, AWD traction, towing, payload, trail use or street-oriented performance matters most.
- Match the configuration to the load. If you need to tow more than 2,000 pounds, identify an eligible hybrid AWD or base EcoBoost AWD with the 4K Tow Package. Check the specific truck’s payload label if carrying people or cargo.
- Compare the cabin and ride priorities. The independent comparison notes a bouncy ride and basic cabin in the Maverick; consider whether pickup utility and efficiency outweigh comfort priorities for your use.
- Price the actual build. Compare equipped vehicles and account for destination, taxes, title, license, options, dealer pricing and any incentives. The $26,295 figure is Ford’s 2024 launch MSRP, not a current transaction price.
Ford says 60% of Maverick customers trade in vehicles from other brands and that almost half of owners tow. Those are manufacturer-reported figures in its July 2024 announcement, not independently verified market-wide statistics.
