For the 2025 model year, the Durango R/T is the V8 choice with a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter HEMI; the SRT Hellcat is the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI performance model. Dodge Mexico’s 2025 catalog gives the Hellcat substantially more power and lists upgraded suspension and Brembo brakes. “SRT” can also refer to the historical SRT 392, so identify the exact model year and SRT version before comparing vehicles.
First, what does “SRT” mean?
It is not a single Durango specification across all years. This comparison uses the 2025 SRT Hellcat. Earlier Durangos also carried the SRT 392 name, which is a different version; figures for the Hellcat should not be applied to an SRT 392 or to every Durango model year.
Availability also depends on model year and market. Stellantis announced on December 19, 2024, that production of the HEMI-powered R/T and SRT Hellcat would continue into calendar year 2025 (Stellantis announcement). That announcement is not a guarantee that a particular vehicle is currently available new in every market. Dodge’s current FAQ describes a 2026 range with different trim and engine context, including a 6.4-liter engine it says is coming soon (Dodge Durango FAQ). Check the model year and the actual vehicle’s equipment rather than assuming 2025 specifications carry forward.
How do the 2025 R/T and SRT Hellcat compare?
| Specification | Durango R/T | Durango SRT Hellcat |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 5.7-liter naturally aspirated HEMI V8 | Supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 |
| Published output | 360 hp and 390 lb-ft, per Dodge Mexico’s 2025 catalog | 710 hp and 645 lb-ft, per Dodge Mexico’s 2025 catalog |
| Suspension | Sports suspension, per Dodge Mexico’s 2025 technical sheet | Adaptive Bilstein high-performance suspension, per Dodge Mexico’s 2025 technical sheet |
| Brakes | 13.8-inch front and 13-inch rear discs with floating calipers, per Dodge Mexico’s 2025 technical sheet | 15.7-inch two-piece front discs with six-piston Brembo calipers; 13.78-inch rear discs with four-piston Brembo calipers, per Dodge Mexico’s 2025 technical sheet |
The technical equipment and output figures in the table are Mexico-market specifications, not universal U.S. specifications. They come from Dodge Mexico’s 2025 Durango technical catalog.

Why do published Hellcat horsepower figures differ?
Dodge’s 2025 performance page states 717 horsepower for the SRT Hellcat, while Dodge Mexico’s 2025 catalog and Stellantis’s December 19, 2024 announcement state 710 horsepower. The materials reviewed do not explain the difference, so treat each number as a claim tied to its source and page rather than a universally interchangeable specification. Dodge describes the supercharged engine on its 2025 Durango performance page as making the Hellcat “the most powerful gas-engine SUV ever.”
The same Dodge performance page displays a 7.4-second 0–60 mph figure for the R/T. That is Dodge’s published figure on that page, not a directly comparable R/T-versus-Hellcat acceleration test.

What else is different about the Hellcat?
Beyond its larger, supercharged engine, the Mexico-market technical sheet lists adaptive Bilstein high-performance suspension and substantially larger Brembo brake hardware for the Hellcat. Those details point to a performance-oriented equipment package, but they are specific to that catalog and market.
Stellantis’s announcement of the 2025 special editions describes the Hellcat with a TorqueFlite 8HP95 eight-speed automatic and seven available drive modes: Auto, Sport, Track, Snow, Tow, Eco and Valet (Stellantis special-edition announcement). The announcement does not establish that every mode or configuration applies identically to every trim and market.

Which one should you choose?
Choose the R/T if
- You want a Durango with a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter HEMI V8 rather than the Hellcat’s supercharged 6.2-liter engine.
- The Hellcat’s much higher published output and its performance-oriented hardware are not the deciding priorities for you.
Consider the SRT Hellcat if
- You specifically want the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI and the much higher output Dodge publishes for the Hellcat.
- You want the performance-oriented suspension and Brembo brake package described in Dodge Mexico’s 2025 catalog, after confirming that the exact vehicle in your market has that equipment.
What should you verify before comparing listings?
Compare the exact model year and SRT version first, then confirm the engine, output and fitted equipment from documentation for that vehicle and market. Also compare transaction prices and towing capacity only for the same model year and relevant configurations. The sources cited here do not establish directly comparable U.S. prices or towing capacities for equally equipped R/T and Hellcat vehicles, so no price premium or towing advantage can be concluded from them.
