What engine comes in the 2025 Chevy Colorado?
Every 2025 Colorado uses Chevrolet’s 2.7L TurboMax. Chevrolet lists output at 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Its 2025 Canadian build-and-price specifications also identify TurboMax as standard; the Canadian listing confirms the engine specification, not U.S. pricing or availability.
TurboMax is Chevrolet’s name for this engine offering, not an additional engine alongside a separate 2.7L option. The lineup has one engine choice, even though Colorado models can have different equipment and capability ratings.
Why is there only one engine for 2025?
GM Authority reports that Chevrolet removed the lower-output L2R 2.7L engine for the 2025 model year, leaving the L3B TurboMax. That model-change explanation comes from secondary reporting; Chevrolet’s 2025 materials establish the single offering and its specifications, but do not themselves explain the deletion.

Does one engine mean every Colorado can tow the same amount?
No. Towing capacity depends on the model and its equipment, including the Trailering Package. Chevrolet’s 2025 Colorado trailering chart lists up to 7,700 lb for applicable TurboMax configurations with the package. The chart’s ZR2 TurboMax entry is 6,000 lb.
The 2025 Colorado Owner Manual chart distinguishes still more configurations: it lists 3,500 lb for a 2.7L engine without the Trailering Package, 7,700 lb with the package, 6,000 lb for ZR2 and AT4X, and 5,500 lb for ZR2 Bison and AT4X AEV. These are manufacturer ratings for the listed configurations, not one universal rating for every Colorado.

Chevrolet instructs owners to use the tow-rating chart for the specific model, powertrain, and trailering options. Passengers, cargo, options, and accessories can reduce how much a particular vehicle can tow, so check the chart and the ratings for the individual truck rather than relying on the engine specification alone.
