The 2025 BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive gets a 20-hp boost: BMW says its output rises to 523 hp through an optimized engine-management configuration. In BMW’s U.S. launch announcement, the updated car is also rated at 479 lb-ft of torque and 0–60 mph in 3.4 seconds. The power bump is the headline surprise, but the facelift also brings exterior, cabin and infotainment changes.
What is the special surprise?
BMW’s May 28, 2024 U.S. announcement says the 2025 M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive gains 20 hp, bringing output to 523 hp. BMW attributes the increase to an optimized engine-management configuration. The company also lists 479 lb-ft of peak torque and a manufacturer-stated 0–60 mph time of 3.4 seconds for this variant. The increase applies to the U.S.-market Competition Sedan with M xDrive; it should not be read as a 20-hp increase for every M3. BMW’s U.S. release lists 473 hp for the standard M3 with a six-speed manual and 503 hp for the rear-wheel-drive Competition with an eight-speed automatic. The M xDrive Competition is the 523-hp version.
What else changes in the facelift?
Exterior
BMW lists redesigned headlights and new forged alloy wheels among the visible updates. The 2025 model is a facelift rather than a wholly new-generation M3.

Cabin and technology
Inside, BMW identifies new steering wheels, new interior trim and BMW Operating System 8.5. The announcement names these updates but does not specify that every steering-wheel or trim choice is standard equipment on every configuration.
What does M xDrive change?
The Competition xDrive’s all-wheel-drive system is rear-biased, according to BMW. Drivers can select 4WD Sport; with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) switched off, a 2WD mode sends power only to the rear wheels. That gives the driver a choice of all-wheel-drive traction or rear-wheel-drive behavior, subject to the car’s settings and conditions. BMW’s U.S. release.

U.S. launch price and UK versions are separate figures
For the U.S. market, BMW listed a launch base MSRP of $85,300 for the 2025 M3 Competition with M xDrive, plus $1,175 for destination and handling. Those figures appeared in the May 28, 2024 announcement and are historical launch pricing, not a current dealer quote or a statement of today’s transaction price. Current stock, options and prices are not established by that announcement.
BMW UK’s 2024 announcement covered different body styles and market pricing: the Competition Saloon with M xDrive was listed from £82,420, and the Competition Touring from £84,700. BMW said the UK models were available to order at the time, with customer deliveries due to commence in summer 2024. What buyers should take from the announcement
- If you are looking specifically at the U.S. 2025 M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive, the main performance change is BMW’s 20-hp increase to 523 hp.
- Compare it with the rear-drive Competition or standard M3 by checking drivetrain and transmission as well as horsepower: BMW lists the rear-drive Competition at 503 hp with an eight-speed automatic and the standard M3 at 473 hp with a six-speed manual.
- Treat BMW’s acceleration and power figures as manufacturer specifications, not a substitute for an independent road test.
- Use a current dealer quote to assess today’s price and availability; the published $85,300 U.S. MSRP plus destination is the launch figure from May 2024.
