2025 BMW i4 M60: What Changed, How Fast It Is, and Why U.S. Buyers See a 2026 Model

The BMW i4 M60 is a faster, updated replacement for the M50—not a new i4 generation. Here are the global and U.S. performance, range, charging, and price details.

Yes—the BMW i4 M60 did arrive in 2025. BMW announced the range-topping i4 M60 xDrive for global-market introduction from July 2025, replacing the i4 M50 as the performance flagship. It is a meaningful powertrain upgrade, not a clean-sheet new generation of the i4.

U.S. shoppers should look for the 2026 BMW i4 M60 Gran Coupe. BMW USA lists 593 hp, a preliminary 0–60 mph estimate of 3.6 seconds, an estimated 232–278 miles of range, and a starting MSRP of $70,700.

The short version

The i4 M60 is best understood as an enhanced M50 replacement. It keeps the existing i4 Gran Coupe’s basic platform and liftback body, but adds a higher-output dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, M-specific equipment, and quicker acceleration.

BMW’s global specification quotes 442 kW (601 hp) and 0–100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, with a WLTP range of 433–551 km. BMW USA quotes 593 hp, 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds, and a preliminary estimated range of 232–278 miles. These figures use different market rating and testing systems and should not be mixed.

BMW announced the update on May 28, 2025, with production or market introduction scheduled from July 2025. The model-year difference is why “2025 i4 M60” is correct globally while American buyers encounter a 2026 model.

BMW’s global announcement and the BMW USA 2026 update both describe the M60 as the new, more powerful i4 range-topper—not a completely redesigned i4.

What is the BMW i4 M60?

The M60 is a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version of the i4 Gran Coupe. Its five-door liftback body provides easier cargo access than a conventional sedan while retaining the low seating position and road-going proportions of a sport sedan.

The “M” designation needs context. The i4 M60 is an M Performance model, rather than necessarily the electric equivalent of a full BMW M car such as an M4. That distinction matters: the M60 is designed to combine strong straight-line performance, all-weather traction, and daily usability, but its badge alone does not establish that it has the same track-focused hardware or mission as a full M model.

BMW M identifies M-specific exterior details, including a rear spoiler, while the broader update focuses primarily on the powertrain and efficiency improvements. Buyers should therefore expect an evolution of the existing i4 rather than a new body, platform, or generation.

Performance: more power, faster acceleration

Specification Global/European figure U.S. figure
Output 442 kW / 601 hp 593 hp
Drive system Dual-motor xDrive AWD Dual-motor AWD
Acceleration 0–100 km/h in 3.7 seconds 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds
Range 433–551 km WLTP 232–278 miles estimated
Maximum DC charging Market specification applies 205 kW

BMW says the M60 gains 42 kW, or 57 hp, over the predecessor in its global specification. The result is a quicker i4 at the top of the lineup, with the electric motors providing immediate response and all-wheel drive helping convert that output into traction.

The global 601-hp figure and the U.S. 593-hp figure are not evidence of two different drivetrains. BMW is reporting the vehicle under different market-specific rating and certification conventions. Use the number for the market in which the car is being sold.

BMW’s acceleration claims are manufacturer figures for comparison, not independent instrumented test results. A 0–60-mph run and a 0–100-km/h run are also different tests and should not be treated as interchangeable. Battery state of charge, temperature, tires, road surface, launch procedure, and driving mode can all affect the result.

Peak system output also should not automatically be interpreted as continuously available power. Electric vehicles can limit output as the battery or motors heat up, so the quoted acceleration does not promise unlimited repeated launches or consistent track-session performance.

How does it compare with the i4 M50?

The central change is the transition from M50 to M60. BMW has repositioned the nameplate as the more powerful flagship rather than introducing an entirely separate car.

  • Name: The i4 M50 is replaced by the i4 M60 in the updated lineup.
  • Power: BMW quotes a 42-kW/57-hp increase globally.
  • Acceleration: The M60 is rated at 3.7 seconds to 100 km/h globally and 3.6 seconds to 60 mph in the United States.
  • Drive layout: Both are performance-oriented, dual-motor, all-wheel-drive i4 models.
  • Styling: The M60 receives M-specific exterior treatment, including the rear spoiler identified by BMW M.
  • Range: Performance hardware, all-wheel drive, and wider or larger-wheel configurations make the M60 less range-focused than lower-output i4 versions.

For a recent M50 owner, the upgrade is most compelling if the extra acceleration, newer model designation, and equipment matter. It is less compelling if the existing car already delivers more performance than needed for daily driving. The M60 is an improved flagship, not a fundamental change in the i4 ownership experience.

Range: read the test cycle carefully

BMW’s global M60 page lists a combined 433–551 km WLTP range, which converts mathematically to roughly 269–342 miles. Those converted figures are not U.S. EPA ratings and should not be used as American buying estimates.

  • Intelligent Charging: Featuring a 2.8-inch touch display, you can easily select the charging current (8A / 10A / 13A / 16A) and schedule charging with a 1–12 hour delayed start. Perfect for maximizing off-peak hours and cutting electricity costs. (Example: Set a 2-hour delay, and charging begins automatically after 2 hours.)
  • Comprehensive Safety: Designed to meet CE and FCC safety standards, this charger offers multiple layers of protection, including overvoltage, overload, short-circuit, grounding, and leakage safeguards. The durable IP65-rated waterproof housing and reinforced cable ensure reliable charging in all weather conditions, keeping your vehicle safe year-round.

BMW USA lists an estimated 232–278 miles, depending on configuration. The 2026 U.S. update identifies the higher 278-mile estimate with 19-inch wheels and the lower 232-mile estimate with 20-inch wheels.

This is a significant trade-off. Larger wheels and performance tires may improve visual presence and steering response, but they add rolling resistance and can reduce range. They can also increase replacement-tire costs. If long-distance usability matters more than appearance, confirm the exact wheel and tire package before ordering.

Neither figure should be described as universal real-world range. Weather, speed, elevation, heating or air-conditioning use, traffic, payload, tire pressure, and battery temperature all affect consumption. WLTP is generally more optimistic than EPA testing, so U.S. shoppers should use BMW’s U.S. estimate rather than converting the WLTP maximum.

Charging capability

BMW USA lists a maximum DC charging rate of 205 kW and claims approximately 30 minutes for a 10–80% DC charge under its stated conditions. The 205-kW number is a peak capability, not a guaranteed sustained rate. Charging power normally varies with battery temperature, state of charge, charger performance, and site load.

BMW also lists approximately 11.5 hours for a full AC charge under its stated Level 2 conditions. That is the kind of charging most owners will use overnight at home, while DC fast charging is more relevant on road trips.

BMW says i4 buyers can access a charging network with more than 5,000 DC fast-charging stations. Availability, pricing, roaming arrangements, enrollment requirements, and any included offers can change by date, vehicle, location, and purchase or lease terms. Access to the network should not be read as a promise of free public charging.

i4 M60 versus i4 eDrive40

The M60 makes sense when acceleration and all-wheel-drive traction are priorities. The eDrive40 makes more sense when range, efficiency, and purchase value are more important.

BMW’s global 2025 update lists the i4 eDrive40 at 510–613 km WLTP, substantially above the M60’s 433–551 km WLTP range. The two ranges use the same test cycle, although exact equipment and market specifications still matter.

  • Choose the M60 for maximum i4 performance, all-wheel drive, and a more aggressive M Performance character.
  • Choose the eDrive40 if you want the i4 body and driving position but expect to spend more time covering long distances than accelerating hard.
  • Consider a used or leftover M50 if its performance is sufficient and the price difference is substantial.

U.S. price and availability

As of August 18, 2026, BMW USA lists a starting MSRP of $70,700 for the 2026 i4 M60 Gran Coupe. MSRP is not the same as the final transaction price: destination charges, options, taxes, registration, dealer pricing, markups, and incentives can change the total.

BMW’s page also displays a payment example based on 36 months and $5,999 due at signing. That is an illustration, not a universal lease offer. Credit tier, mileage allowance, location, fees, taxes, residual value, promotions, and incentives affect the actual payment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because model-year naming and inventory can overlap, verify the vehicle identification number, build sheet, and window sticker. A listing for an M60 does not prove that the car is physically available at a nearby dealer, and a leftover M50 should not be confused with the newer model.

Use BMW’s build-and-price tool and shopping tools for current configurations, inventory, financing, leasing, and regional offers. Incentives—including federal, state, utility, manufacturer, and lease programs—can change independently of MSRP and may depend on how the vehicle is acquired.

Ownership trade-offs

The M60’s Gran Coupe liftback is one of its practical advantages. It offers more flexible cargo access than a traditional sedan without switching to an SUV. It is still a relatively low car, however, and buyers who need maximum cargo volume, rear-seat space, or an elevated driving position may prefer an electric crossover.

Performance also brings costs beyond the purchase price. BMW USA lists curb weight at approximately 5,009 pounds in its technical material. That mass, high output, larger wheels, and performance tires can influence tire wear, replacement costs, insurance, and energy consumption.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Winter conditions can affect both range and traction. All-wheel drive helps with propulsion, but it does not eliminate the effects of cold batteries, reduced tire grip, snow-covered roads, cabin heating, or winter tires. Buyers in cold climates should judge the car by their seasonal driving needs rather than its best laboratory rating.

Driver-assistance and parking features may be standard or tied to optional equipment packages depending on market and configuration. Confirm the exact build rather than assuming every feature shown in BMW’s marketing material is included on the base vehicle.

Verdict

The 2025-arriving BMW i4 M60 is a real and meaningful performance update, but it is not a radically new i4. It replaces the M50 with more power, quicker manufacturer-claimed acceleration, M-specific details, and a new position at the top of the range.

For U.S. buyers, the correct shopping target is the 2026 i4 M60 Gran Coupe, with BMW’s estimated 232–278-mile range—not the higher WLTP figure quoted for global markets. It is a strong choice for someone who wants rapid acceleration, all-wheel drive, BMW dynamics, and liftback practicality in a relatively conventional body.

It is less persuasive for buyers who prioritize maximum range, the lowest running costs, the fastest charging experience, or the best value. Those shoppers should compare the eDrive40, a discounted M50, and other performance EVs on total price, charging behavior, wheel specification, and everyday usability—not acceleration alone.
