The refreshed U.S.-market 2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe adds 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance to both the 430i and M440i, along with revised exterior details and an updated digital cabin. BMW rates the 430i at 255 hp and the M440i at 386 hp of total system output; the company estimates the M440i will reach 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, or 4.3 seconds with xDrive. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent test results.
What changed for 2025?
BMW announced the updated 4 Series Gran Coupe on April 24, 2024, alongside the i4. The company said production would begin in July 2024 and the worldwide market launch would start that month. The refresh brings revised exterior design details, new paint and wheel choices, cabin trim and steering-wheel changes, and iDrive with QuickSelect on BMW Operating System 8.5. The headline powertrain change is 48V mild-hybrid technology in both U.S. versions described in BMW’s launch release: the four-cylinder 430i and the six-cylinder M440i. Mild-hybrid assistance supplements their combustion engines; BMW does not describe either Gran Coupe as a plug-in hybrid or an all-electric vehicle.
430i vs. M440i: engine and performance figures
The 430i and M440i differ in engine configuration and BMW-rated output. The M440i’s published acceleration estimates are also distinct from independently measured results.

All output and acceleration figures in the table are BMW’s U.S. 2025 launch specifications or estimates, published in 2024; they are not independent measurements. BMW describes the 430i engine as using Miller-cycle combustion and cites revisions to its intake ports, combustion chambers, camshaft control, injection, ignition, and exhaust-gas routing. For the M440i, BMW says the starter-generator’s 11 hp boost contributes to the 386 hp total system figure.
M440i vs. M440i xDrive
BMW’s launch release gives separate acceleration estimates for the rear-drive M440i and its xDrive version. It does not list a different engine or output figure for xDrive in the cited U.S. release.

What is new inside?
The cabin update centers on the Curved Display and iDrive with QuickSelect, running BMW Operating System 8.5. BMW says climate controls and seat- and steering-wheel-heating functions can be operated on the touchscreen or through the Intelligent Personal Assistant. The company also lists revised air-vent adjustment controls, new trim finishes, and a changed steering wheel.

BMW says sport seats in perforated Sensatec are standard, with Vernasca leather available. The launch release does not specify every upholstery or trim combination by model, so check the equipment configuration for the specific vehicle being considered.
Lighting and equipment depend on model or package
Laserlight taillights are fitted to vehicles equipped with Adaptive Full LED Headlights. BMW identifies those headlights as standard on M440i models and optional on other models through the Shadowline Package. The Laserlight taillight feature therefore should not be read as standard across every 4 Series Gran Coupe.

BMW also announced new wheel choices, but the cited U.S. release does not establish a complete model-by-model wheel availability list. Confirm the package and equipment details for a specific vehicle rather than assuming every pictured or announced choice is standard.

They do not establish independent real-world performance, fuel economy for U.S. models, ride or handling characteristics, or how the updated cabin works in everyday use. A buyer comparing the two trims can use the engine, output, estimated acceleration, and equipment distinctions above, but should verify the exact configuration and current terms with a BMW dealer.
