The 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI 380 SE is a manual-only send-off for the North American GTI: a familiar 241-hp front-drive hot hatch paired with a six-speed gearbox and a useful bundle of chassis and comfort equipment. Its appeal is the involvement of the three-pedal drive, not a power increase or a promise that the manual is quicker than the DSG.
What does “380” mean on the 2024 GTI?
“380” refers to the Mk8 Golf GTI’s internal model code, not a higher-output engine. For the 2024 U.S. model year, Volkswagen made the 380 equipment package standard on every manual GTI trim: S, SE, and Autobahn. Those versions pair the six-speed manual with the same manufacturer-listed 241-hp, 273-lb-ft 2.0-liter turbo engine and front-wheel drive as the corresponding DSG models. Volkswagen’s 2024 U.S. retail order guide lists the trim and equipment details.
The distinctive combination is the six-speed manual with adaptive DCC chassis control, 19-inch gloss-black R-design wheels, and summer performance tires. The black roof and mirror caps complete the 380’s visual treatment. It is a transmission-and-equipment send-off, rather than a separate performance tune.
What does the 380 SE include?
The SE sits between the S and Autobahn, adding notable cabin and convenience equipment without moving to the top trim’s standard leather seating. Its standard features include:

Vienna leather, ventilated front seats, and a memory-equipped power driver’s seat were available options for the SE; they are not standard in the manual car’s plaid-cloth configuration. The Autobahn adds equipment including standard leather, ventilated seats, a head-up display, and three-zone climate control. The S is the simpler entry point, while the SE’s extra comfort and infotainment features make it the middle-ground choice.
There is a driver-assistance difference worth checking if you are comparing a manual car with a DSG: the order guide lists the manual trims without Emergency Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control’s Stop & Go function. Other listed IQ.DRIVE features remain. The two transmissions therefore do not have fully identical feature sets.

How does the manual GTI 380 SE drive?
Car and Driver deputy editor Joey Capparella described the clutch on his final drive as having Volkswagen-typical long travel but a smooth, clear engagement point; he also found the shifter satisfying through the gates. He characterized the GTI as easy to drive quickly or sedately, and the 380 as practical, refined, quick, and engaging. Those are impressions from his drive, not a claim of an independent test here. The manual makes the driver part of the performance experience: choosing gears and working the clutch are central to the car’s character. But it is not the quicker transmission in the available published comparison. Car and Driver says the DSG has been faster by a few tenths in its tests of current-generation GTIs. The publication’s 2024 specification panel lists 5.8 seconds to 60 mph as an estimate, not a guaranteed result for every car or condition.

How practical is the GTI 380 SE?
The GTI retains the everyday utility that helps distinguish it from a narrowly focused sports car. Edmunds lists 19.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 34.5 cubic feet with them folded for the 380 SE. That gives the hatchback room for routine errands and larger loads when passenger space is not needed.
Car and Driver’s 2024 specification panel lists EPA fuel economy of 23 mpg city, 34 highway, and 27 combined for the GTI 380. Those are EPA estimates, not observed real-world mileage; the same review lists 27 mpg combined for both the manual and DSG versions. The manual is therefore not an automatic efficiency upgrade based on these figures.

Was 2024 the last manual Golf GTI?
For Canada, yes: Volkswagen Group Canada announced on August 7, 2024, that the 2024 model year would be the final year for manual transmissions in the Golf GTI and Golf R. President of Volkswagen Canada Edgar Estrada said, “The manual Golf GTI has been a cornerstone of our brand’s identity and holds a special place in our history.” The announcement is available through Newswire.ca.
The 380 package is a North American-market configuration, and the final-year statement should be understood in its stated Canadian and 2024 model-year context—not as proof that every market ended manual Golf availability at the same time. No production total or manual take-rate figure is established here, so the 380’s scarcity should not be quantified.

Is the 2024 Golf GTI 380 SE manual worth choosing?
It makes the most sense for a driver who values the feel and involvement of a manual and wants more than the base trim’s cabin equipment. The SE combines that gearbox with DCC, a limited-slip front differential, summer tires, navigation, upgraded audio, and a panoramic roof. Choose the DSG instead if the quickest shifts matter more than operating a clutch; Car and Driver’s tested DSG GTIs have been quicker by a few tenths.
Car and Driver listed a $38,710 base price for the SE in its 2024 specification panel. That is a publication-listed model-year figure, not a current used-car valuation. Used-market prices and remaining inventory vary, and no current transaction value is established here.
For setup, maintenance, warranty, and accessory information, use Volkswagen’s 2024 Golf GTI/Golf R owner resources and select the documentation for the vehicle. Volkswagen’s order guide lists carpeted mats as standard and an available four-piece Monster Mats set with a heavy-duty trunk liner; verify fitment for the particular car before buying any accessory.
