Toyota pairs a two-person cab with a six-foot bed and lockable storage behind the front seats. The trade is decisive: there is no rear seat or rear door, so regular passenger or family duty points instead to the Double Cab. Here, “smallest” means the lineup’s smallest cab and seating arrangement—not a verified claim that every exterior dimension is smaller.
What makes the XtraCab useful?
The XtraCab is a two-door, two-seat configuration. Rather than reserve space for rear passengers, Toyota uses the area behind the front seats for storage, while retaining a six-foot bed. That layout suits an owner who routinely carries tools, tackle, or outdoor equipment and rarely needs to bring more than one passenger.
Toyota describes lockable storage in both the rear floor and the back panel. The floor compartments can hold smaller items such as packs, toolboxes, or a tacklebox; the back-panel storage is intended for longer items such as shovels and fishing poles. These are useful places to secure gear inside the cab, though they do not replace the bed when cargo is bulky or dirty.
Toyota also lists a long-slide driver’s seat with slide memory and a fold-flat passenger seat that can serve as a workspace. Those features make the front cabin more adaptable, but the passenger seat’s work surface is not a substitute for a second row.

The practical decision is passenger frequency. If you regularly carry adults, children, or additional coworkers, the Double Cab’s rear seating and doors are more useful than XtraCab storage. If the truck is usually occupied by one or two people and you value a six-foot bed plus enclosed gear storage, the XtraCab’s space allocation may fit better. Toyota’s cited material does not establish that either layout is cheaper in a genuinely equivalent configuration, so compare the exact grade, drivetrain, and equipment on the trucks you are considering.
Which grades and powertrains were offered?
For the U.S. 2024 lineup, Toyota offered XtraCab on SR, SR5, and TRD PreRunner. Toyota’s launch information describes the i-FORCE 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder; the available output depends on grade and transmission. The cited XtraCab lineup does not include a hybrid configuration.

What can it tow?
Toyota gives a maximum towing capacity of 6,500 pounds for SR5 i-FORCE and TRD PreRunner XtraCab grades. That is a manufacturer-stated maximum for those specified grades, not a rating for every XtraCab or every loaded vehicle. Confirm the towing information for the particular truck—including its door-jamb label and vehicle documentation—before selecting a trailer or loading it for a trip.

Who should choose the XtraCab?
- A good match: a solo driver or pair who regularly needs the bed and wants lockable space for smaller tools or outdoor gear inside the cab.
- A poor match: anyone who routinely transports more than one passenger, needs child seating in a second row, or expects rear doors for easier passenger access.
- Before buying: compare the exact grade and powertrain, inspect the storage compartments for the gear you carry, and verify the individual truck’s towing and payload ratings. Toyota’s cited material does not establish a complete dimensional comparison, current used prices, or independent ride and fuel-economy results.
