The 2024 Toyota Highlander Hybrid came in six U.S. grades: LE, LE Nightshade, XLE, XLE Nightshade, Limited and Platinum. Toyota’s published specifications include 243 total system horsepower, manufacturer-estimated fuel economy of up to 36 mpg combined for the LE with front-wheel drive, and towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds. The Nightshade grades were new for 2024; listed base MSRPs ran from $40,970 to $51,425.
What changed for 2024?
Toyota introduced the Nightshade Edition to the Highlander Hybrid range for 2024, offering it on the LE and XLE. The edition adds black exterior accents and grade-specific interior details. Toyota also made the hands-free power liftgate standard on XLE grades; it was already standard on Limited and Platinum. Toyota announced the 2024 changes on September 27, 2023.
Which Hybrid grades were offered, and what were their base prices?
Toyota listed six U.S. Hybrid grades and these base MSRPs on its historical 2024 model page. They are not current used-car prices, local offers or out-the-door totals.

What are the powertrain, fuel economy and towing figures?
The Hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid system. Toyota stated 243 total system horsepower and towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds for all Hybrid grades. Its fuel-economy figure is manufacturer-estimated: up to 36 mpg combined for the LE with front-wheel drive. That maximum should not be applied to every grade or drivetrain. Toyota’s published figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results or a guarantee of real-world mileage.
Toyota lists both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive for the model. Check the specific vehicle’s configuration when comparing listings, since the cited maximum fuel economy is tied to LE FWD. Toyota’s model-year announcement provides the power, towing and estimated fuel-economy figures.

How much room and technology does it offer?
The Highlander Hybrid seats up to eight, depending on configuration. Toyota lists up to 84.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the second and third rows folded. This is a maximum with both rows down, not the space available with all seats in use. The model page also lists Sport, Eco, Normal, EV and Trail drive modes.
Equipment varies by grade. Toyota describes the LE with an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility; 12.3-inch multimedia equipment is available on the model, not standard across every grade. Confirm the equipment on the particular vehicle rather than assuming a feature shown for another configuration is included. What should a used-car shopper check for recalls or campaigns?
Service campaign and recall coverage is vehicle-specific, so a model-year match alone does not establish that a particular Highlander Hybrid is affected.
Toyota Special Service Campaign 24TC05
Toyota’s September 19, 2024 notice describes campaign 24TC05, “MIL ON w/DTC P05CE00 Software Update,” for certain 2023–2024 Highlanders. The notice says an engine-control-computer programming error can cause the malfunction indicator lamp to illuminate and diagnostic code P05CE00 to be set. For vehicles Toyota identifies as covered, an authorized dealer will update the engine-control-computer software free of charge. Toyota says owners of covered vehicles will be notified and directs dealers to verify eligibility. The campaign is not stated to cover every 2024 Highlander Hybrid. NHTSA report 25V872
A separate NHTSA-hosted report submitted December 17, 2025 lists 24 potentially involved 2024–2025 Highlander Hybrid vehicles in its vehicle breakdown and ties the population to a particular plant and production period. That count is not a count of 2024 models alone, and the report’s listing does not prove that an individual vehicle is affected. The available report information does not establish enough about the defect or remedy to summarize them here. See NHTSA report 25V872.

How to check one vehicle
- Find the vehicle identification number (VIN) for the specific Highlander Hybrid.
- Enter the VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup, or ask a Toyota dealer to check the vehicle’s eligibility and service history.
- Follow the result for that VIN. NHTSA explains that a year/make/model search gives general results, while a VIN search indicates whether a specific vehicle has an unrepaired recall.
