The 2024 Lexus NX 450h+ F SPORT Handling AWD makes the most sense for drivers who can charge regularly and want electric power for many routine trips without giving up a gasoline engine for longer drives. Its listed electric range is 37 miles, but that is an EPA rating—not a promise that every trip will stay electric. If home charging is inconvenient or your usual drives regularly exceed that range, the plug-in benefit may be less useful.
What the 2024 NX 450h+ F SPORT Handling is
This U.S.-market NX is a plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive. It can drive using battery-electric power and gasoline, and it does not have to be plugged in to operate. Lexus says a plug-in hybrid uses a larger battery and electric motor alongside a gasoline engine; the vehicle still needs gasoline in its tank to run. The U.S. grade is named F SPORT Handling AWD, and Lexus’s brochure describes it as limited availability. The Canadian-market F SPORT 3 is a different configuration, so its equipment and naming should not be assumed to apply to a U.S. vehicle.
Lexus describes the 2024 NX as largely carried over from 2023, with selected interior color offerings and color-keyed door-panel elements updated for 2024. That means this is best approached as a powertrain-and-use-case decision rather than a complete redesign story.
How far can it go on electric power?
Edmunds lists a 37-mile EPA electric range for the 2024 NX 450h+ F SPORT Handling. Treat that as a standardized rating for comparison, not a guaranteed distance in everyday driving. Realized range can vary with conditions such as temperature, speed, terrain, climate-control use, and driving style; a figure quantifying those effects for this exact vehicle is not established here.

The practical question is how much of your normal driving can fit within the available electric range between charges. Compare the distance of a typical weekday—not just the shortest commute—with the 37-mile rating, and allow for the possibility that conditions reduce the distance you can travel on battery power. If your regular trips are comfortably shorter and you can recharge at home, you may be able to cover a meaningful share of them electrically. If daily driving commonly exceeds the rating, gasoline remains available to continue the trip.
How long does charging at home take?
Lexus says the NX 450h+ can charge from either a standard 120-volt outlet or a 240-volt Level 2 setup. For a vehicle equipped with the 6.6-kW onboard charger, Lexus Customer Service estimates approximately 12 hours from fully depleted on 120 volts, or about 2.5 hours on 240 volts. These are the manufacturer’s approximate times, not independent measurements.

Fuel economy and the figures to compare
Edmunds lists 36 mpg combined with the battery depleted and 84 MPGe combined for the 2024 F SPORT Handling. The two numbers describe different operating contexts: MPGe is the combined efficiency rating for electric operation expressed in gasoline-equivalent units, while the 36-mpg figure is the listed combined gasoline efficiency when the battery is depleted. Neither is a guarantee of real-world results.

Cabin capacity and everyday practicality
Edmunds lists seating for five and 22.7 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Those are published capacity figures; they do not substitute for checking whether your passengers, child seats, luggage, or regular cargo fit the way you need. Bring representative items or try the seating arrangement at a dealer if those details are decisive.

The F SPORT Handling designation identifies the U.S. grade, but equipment can vary by market and vehicle. Lexus Canada’s F SPORT 3 descriptions—including styling and equipment details—refer to a Canadian configuration, not proof of what is standard on a U.S. F SPORT Handling. Check the U.S. window sticker for the specific vehicle rather than inferring equipment from another market’s trim description.

For context, Lexus introduced the NX 450h+ as part of a broader choice of powertrains. In the launch-era description, Lexus product marketing senior analyst Todd Blickenstaff said the aim was to give customers a choice because “Different people have different needs.” That statement describes the model’s original positioning, not a current evaluation of this trim’s driving character.
Who is this plug-in hybrid best suited to?
- It may fit well if you can charge at home, most routine trips are near or below the rated electric range, and you want gasoline available for trips beyond it.
- Think carefully about the plug-in premium and routine if you can charge only occasionally or your typical driving frequently exceeds the electric range. The evidence here does not establish a current price, incentive, or ownership-cost calculation to determine whether the added plug-in capability pays off.
- Check the exact vehicle if trim equipment matters: confirm the U.S. F SPORT Handling AWD designation and its window sticker rather than relying on Canadian-market F SPORT 3 information.
Edmunds also lists a 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty and a curb weight of 4,475 pounds for this model. These are listing figures; confirm warranty terms and vehicle details for the specific U.S. vehicle and purchase.

The available specifications support a practical assessment of charging format, rated range, listed efficiency, and published capacity. They do not establish independently tested electric range, charging performance, fuel economy, current transaction price, incentives, used inventory, or comparative road-test handling for this exact car.
