The right 2024 Honda depends first on where you plan to ride: the CRF-F models are recreational off-road trail bikes, the CRF-L models are dual-sports for road and off-road use, and CRF-R models such as the CRF250R and CRF450R are competition-oriented motocross bikes. They are not interchangeable. This guide covers Honda’s U.S. model-year 2024 lineup; rider fit, local rules, and the type of riding matter as much as engine size.
Which kind of Honda dirt bike fits your riding?
Recreational trails and family riding: CRF-F
Honda’s 2024 CRF Trail family announcement names the CRF250F, CRF125F, CRF110F, and CRF50F as more relaxed, beginner-oriented off-road choices. That positioning can help narrow the field, but it does not mean every model will fit every new rider. Match the bike to the rider’s size, experience, terrain, and ability to control it at a stop.
Honda describes the CRF50F as a small first motorcycle with a 49cc air-cooled four-stroke engine and an automatic clutch. The available 2024 source details do not establish full specifications for all four CRF-F models, so compare the exact model’s official specifications and owner’s manual rather than assuming dimensions or equipment from one family member apply to another.
Road links as well as trails: CRF-L dual-sports
The CRF300L and CRF300L Rally combine road-and-trail use in the 286cc class. The Rally adds a taller windscreen, more-coverage bodywork, and a larger fuel tank; those are touring-oriented equipment differences, not proof that it performs better off-road. The CRF450RL is a larger-displacement dual-sport with a 450cc engine and a taller seat. Choose among them based on fit, road use, terrain, and the specifications below—not on displacement alone.

- Honda CRF450R Dirt Bike
- Dirt Bike Motorcycle
- Approximate dimensions: L-7, W-2.5, H-4 inches.
- Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts.
Closed-course motocross: CRF-R
Honda’s 2024 performance lineup includes the CRF250R and CRF450R. These are competition-oriented motocross machines, not substitutes for a street-legal dual-sport. If your plan involves public-road connections, verify that the specific motorcycle is registered and legal for that use; do not infer road legality from the CRF name or from another model in the range.
How do the 2024 CRF300L, Rally, and CRF450RL compare?
The figures below are U.S. model-year 2024 specifications from American Honda. Honda defines the cited curb weights as including standard equipment, required fluids, and a full tank.

| 2024 model | Engine | Transmission | Seat height | Curb weight | Fuel capacity | Notable distinction |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CRF300L | 286cc liquid-cooled single | Six-speed manual | 34.7 in. | 306 lb | 2.1 gal | Honda also listed an ABS trim. |
| CRF300L Rally | 286cc liquid-cooled single | Six-speed | 35.2 in. | 331 lb | 3.4 gal | Taller windscreen and extra-coverage bodywork. |
| CRF450RL | 450cc liquid-cooled single | Wide-ratio six-speed | 37.2 in. | 289 lb | 2.0 gal | Honda describes it as fully street legal in all 50 states. |
Tank capacity is not a promised riding range: distance per tank varies with conditions and use, and the cited specifications do not establish a range figure. Likewise, seat height is a useful comparison, not a guarantee that a rider can comfortably reach the ground or manage the bike.
Which Honda is best for trail riding?
For recreational off-road riding without a need to ride public roads, start with the CRF-F family rather than a motocross bike. The CRF250F, CRF125F, CRF110F, and CRF50F are the models Honda identified for its 2024 trail family. The available details here are not sufficient to rank all four by dimensions or equipment, so the practical choice comes down to the individual rider and a fit check.

- 【2200W Peak Motor & Up to 60% Grade Climbing】Powered by a 2200W peak motor, this electric dirt bike for adults and teens (13+) provides strong torque for steep hills and rough ground—bringing a full-size dirtbike feel for serious off-road capability.
- 【Reliable Long-Range Battery System】The 48V 22.5Ah (1080Wh) battery supports up to 45 miles per charge (range varies by rider weight, terrain, speed and conditions), while the smart BMS helps manage charging/discharging for stable output and battery protection. UL 2271 certified battery system adds extra peace of mind for every e dirt bike ride.
- 【Suspension Control, Hydraulic Braking + UL 2272】Front hydraulic suspension and a rear air shock help absorb impacts for stable handling, while front & rear hydraulic disc brakes deliver strong, responsive stopping power on dirt trails and private land. UL 2272 certified electric vehicle system.
If your trail days include road travel between riding areas, consider a CRF-L dual-sport instead. The CRF300L is the lower-seat, lighter, smaller-tank reference point among the three models compared above; the Rally offers a taller seat, more fuel capacity, and additional wind and bodywork coverage; the CRF450RL has the tallest seat and the largest engine class. Those distinctions help describe the bikes, but do not establish which will feel easiest or perform best on a particular trail.
Which 2024 Honda dirt bikes are street legal?
Honda’s 2024 materials describe the CRF300L as street legal and the CRF450RL as fully street legal in all 50 states. The CRF300L Rally is part of the CRF300L road-and-trail family. Confirm the exact model’s documentation and registration requirements where you live. State and local rules, registration status, and trail-specific restrictions still govern where a motorcycle may be ridden; a manufacturer description does not grant access to every road or trail.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should a beginner choose a Honda dirt bike size?
Do not choose by age, engine displacement, or a seat-height number alone. Arrange a supervised fit check for the exact motorcycle, ideally in the riding gear the rider will use. Consider whether the rider can reach the controls, balance the bike, and manage it while stopped; also consider experience, strength, and the terrain planned. A smaller machine is not automatically a safe fit, and a larger engine is not a proxy for suitability.

- Consider fueled weight: a rider must manage the motorcycle as a whole, including at low speeds and when stopped.
- Match the machine category to the riding: relaxed recreational trails, road-and-trail use, or closed-course motocross.
- Get appropriate instruction and use protective riding gear before riding.
What should you verify before buying a 2024 model?
Specifications tell only part of the ownership story. For a new, leftover, or used motorcycle, verify the exact model and year, paperwork, condition, and the intended use before committing.
Quick Recap
- Fit and intended riding: Sit on the exact model and assess reach, balance, and control. Confirm whether the bike is intended for recreational trails, road use, or closed-course competition.
- Registration and access: Check local registration requirements and the rules for the roads or riding areas you plan to use.
- Equipment: Confirm the exact trim and features, including transmission and braking equipment. Do not assume that ABS or another feature is fitted across the whole family.
- Maintenance and warranty: Consult the 2024 owner’s manual for the exact model for controls and maintenance requirements, and confirm applicable warranty terms for that motorcycle. Honda’s owner-manual portal supports model-year selection.
- Availability and condition: Check with a dealer or seller for present availability and, for a used bike, assess its condition and service history. The 2024 specifications do not establish current inventory or resale value.
